go check your local at&t store

I've been keeping up with this thread, and I felt like I should make an account and post what my results with calling stores around have been.

I live in California, in the San Fernando Valley. I called the store on Topanga Cyn near Victory blvd and I got a female store rep. I asked if they'll have the Samsung Captivate available on Sunday. She told me she never heard of the phone before and said I'm probably referring to the Galaxy 5 which they won't be getting until August.

I get the feeling that the reps at that store are just playing dumb and not wanting to disclose whether they'll have them in stock or not, for whatever reason.

I haven't been able to contact the other stores in the area. Here's to hoping I'll be able to get a Captivate on Sunday.
 
Walked in the store, asked the lady helping me for the Samsung Galaxy phone, she told me it doesn't go on sell until the 18th, of course I was totally bummed out. But then walks over my hero, the ease dropping salesman, he told me to hold on we have them in the back and he was going to ask the manager if they could sell me one today. And to my surprise he walks out with a brand new Captivate. I immediately had to take off to work after I bought it and it was killing me all day not to be able to play with it. I almost called into work. hahaha!!!

Thanks to Wassi and Lunchbox84 for letting us know where they picked theirs up at (I-35 and Parmer) in Austin!

You'll be fine. I lost my iPhone 3g early last year and have been using an old BB. On our account my number is not eligible for the early iPhone upgrade buy my Wife's is.

By upgrading my wife's phone I'll be renewing our contract making me eligible for a phone at new contract price.

Hope that clears it up for you.
 
Oh yeah, I didn't mention the other awesome thing that happened. I only paid $150, she took $50 off because I hadn't renewed my contract for close to two years. Now how awesome is that!!

Ok, so... I called around places by my work this morning and everybody gave me the "18th" line. So on my way home, I decided to make a few stops. My first stop was at an AT&T Authorized Retailer. They didn't have the phone, but they expected it any day. The second stop was my old nemesis, the AT&T Corporate Store. The Assistant Manager was standing by the sign-in sheet. I was prepared to go into the story I'd rehearsed to convince them to let me see one, and before I could even get started, he was like, "Oh yeah we have 2 on the shelves over there. We've been selling them all day. Here, let me go get you one." I about fainted.

So the trick is, you have to go to an AT&T Corporate store, and they need to have gotten their shipment in. If both of those are true, they should have gotten an email that tells them they can sell it early.
 
I've been to three corporate stores yesterday and today, and they all told me they wouldn't be available till the 18th. None of them would really say if they had them in stock. Also, none of them had a demo unit. Very disappointing. I'm Phoenix, AZ. Anyone else in the area have better luck?
 
been lurking the forums but decided to post in the Northern VA area. called this morning to a att corp office, spoke to a rep and he said they have it but are not allowed to sell. i went to the store later on in the day and another rep told me they didnt have any, funny as he proceeds to tell me how cool and how nice the phone is.

damn sales reps.
 
im in Louisiana, close enough to Texas, so im going to the authorized dealer and the corporate store near where i live, but im going away for the weekend, so im going to every store THERE also until i find someone who sells me one..... HOPEFULLY. if not, ill be at the corporate store here at home on Monday bright and early (theyre not open on Sundays - small town living).... good thing about bein in this small town though, most probably havent heard of the phone, so i shouldnt have any issues with them selling out....
 
My local store has one but wouldn't let me see it. : ( so I went to worst buy and almost fought the salesman for being a a$$ hole. worst buy didnt have any and tried to get me to switch to t mobile. t mobile is the worst for utah. So I will not buy mine from either of them
 
Went to the two corporate stores in Huntsville, AL yesterday. One just stonewalled and said they didn't have it yet and couldn't sell till the 18th. At the other one, the lady was really nice and said that her store has gotten in trouble in the past for selling too early (which is true, they sold me a Touch Pro 2 early) so the "higher ups" won't even put the Captivate in their point-of-sale system until the night of the 17th. I told her I'd be there at closing on the 17th! :D

Aha! I knew I probably had some competition around here. No wonder they sounded annoyed when I called the two stores. ;)

HA! I'm about to leave work and try again. I figure it's more intimidating for them if I go in person instead of call. I can't wait for this friggin' thing! Of note, I asked the one on University Dr if they will have enough on Sunday. She told me not to worry, they have "more than enough".
 
just have to get through this work day, drink till i forget the weekend happened and have my phone before I know it sunday morning. If anyone in NYC has an update of where to go post it, I WANT IT NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW /willy wonka
 
Just tried two stores with stock in the Philly burbs (Exton). One guy was about to go back and get it when the other waived him off. I mentioned that people are getting now and an email stating it was ok to sell should have came with the stock. They checked but couldn't find anything. Waiting until the 18th. I don't think I want to give up a Saturday on this. It's getting pointless out this way.
