Good pricing deals on purchasing the HTC EVO 4G

First post.
Walmart has the Evo for $149 with free shipping and includes a $100 wally world gift card. The gift card takes 4-6 weeks to arrive, so dont plan on using for the holidays. It looks like this is applicable for on line and in store purchases and works for most smart phones on a 2 year contract.
The gift card promo is from 11/17 to 11/25.
You still have to pay the Sprint activation fee.

Walmart will allow existing customers to get the EVO and the $100 gift card. The phone price is still $199, but after that gift card rebate, it ends up being $99. That may be the best deal so far.

is there any disadvantage from buying the phone from walmart or amazon. if there is a problem with the phone can you still go to a sprint store and get it warrantied ?

As long as you purchase the warranty at the time with the phone, you should be able to take it into any Sprint store to have it worked on.

unfortunately Walmart doesn't offer the warranty as
an add-on. i have to get sprint to add it once i get
the phones. Walmart says they are retail boxed Sprint
phones so warranty shouldn't be a problem.

is the walmart in store?

I would call ahead and check to make sure your Walmart carries Sprint phones in-store as a lot of them don't, just online (through letstalk.com). Also you may want to check on prices as well, my in-store Walmart is doing the $100 promo, but they also want $180 for a Droid Incredible.. I left the department laughing out loud :P

i called several local Walmart stores and
none of them carry Sprint phones.

$49 from Walmart (letstalk.com) is by far
the best deal out there !!! Amazon is the
second best at $99

i'm porting 3 lines from at&t to sprint.

It appears that it's necessary to purchase the EVO with a Sprint plan.
And the plans are never discounted, at least at Amazon.

Is it possible to buy the phone for cheap thru Walmart WITHOUT an air plan from Sprint, and then call Sprint and get discounts applied?

I suspect not, but hoping it's possible.
If it is, please explain how to go about it.

Thanks.

You can confirm with Sprint at Sprint Chat but a chat rep just told me contract owner could contact Sprint chat, store or Customer solution team at 1-888-211-4727 with plan discount code during the order process (best chance to have it applied fastest with Amazon's-letstalk.com-wirefly's or the elsewhere online-currently 2 other places have it for under $100 EVO discounted order price) or as soon as you can to have it applied (may take 1 billing cycle the longer you wait).

"Nicole G", also told me regardless of where the EVO is bought it (I'd look for authorized retailer) would have the one year HTC manufacturers warranty & come with Sprint's 30 day satisfaction guarantee but the device would have to be returned to where you bought it.

Beyond 30 days, to avoid an ETF (if you bail before 24 months), she also said the contract ownership could be transferred to someone else to fulfill it or as others have pointed out look for any significant contract term changes during contract that may allow you an out.

Lastly she said a contract owner can add a TEP within 30 days of activation of phone. After 30 days only a Sprint Phone Repair Center can add TEP after a paid-repair if the phone is not damaged. Haven't decided if I would get that yet.

{She wasn't able to tell me about any Black Friday/Cyber Monday deal yet..}

Let us know if you hear different,

$99 at Amazon is good deal, but you will have to pay the activation fee of $18 per phone. I am looking at getting two phones and am currently a sprint customer.
rumors:::::2 for one for $149 at Sprint.com no activation fees on Friday. Has any one else heard this?

What do you mean "Plan Discount Code" Im not sure where you would get this?

I am half way sure you can get atleast one activation waived....if you call Sprint

I had two of them waived, though they put them on the bill on separate months even though we got both in the same weekend.

the buy one get one free on sprint on friday is for the blackberry not the evo. if you are looking for a good price on the evo the studentrate price is better if you are willing to have it in form of rebates (you pay the regular price then get the rebates) The amazon deal is not good in my opinion because of the activation fees,.

what is the student rate Evo cost and how do you get it ?

$49 from Walmart is pretty hard to beat even with activation fees.

I don't know if anyone saw it but Radioshack.com is selling the EVO for $99.00 today. It was $149.99 yesterday and I check this afternoon it dropped to $99. Just ordered two, one with wife and one for me!
