Good pricing deals on purchasing the HTC EVO 4G

I was going to post about the Best Buy Reward Zone thing too. I'll go there tonight and if it's close to the wirefly price after I get the $40 back I'll buy from them just to have the local return support. If not or if they're out of them the wirefly price is still good today so I'll order tonight.

Either way I'm getting an evo today. :)

Hmm, $119 is a great price. I checked out the link above and it appears you can only get a black Evo. I really want a white one.

I'm a little skeptical of the whole Wirefly process though. I like to have a local store to go to and deal with issues. How does buying from Wirefly affect getting repairs etc later? Will Sprint TEP Insurance still cover it down the road?

I just renewed mine too. $127.19 with $7.20 of it being tax.

That surprised me too...free shipping....no tax.
My total was $119.00

I was renewing my contract.

Are you guys ignoring the Activation fee in this transaction. I understand Wirefly is advertising an $18 activation fee but Sprint is actually charging $36 if you are on a family plan.

The below is from the Wirefly Facebook page.

Mike Morrison I bought the HTC EVO for Sprint. The ad said $18 activation fee. When I get billed it is $36?!?!? Seems like bait and switch which is illegal. I contacted your online customer service 1.5 days ago and they said this and I of course I never got the callback. You guys are shady:

I dont think I have ever paid an act for the lifespan of my account which is 9 years....I have upgrade lines on my account at least 7 times...

No, but you are charged an activation fee if you go through a Sprint brick and mortar store or Best Buy, and if you get it online from Sprint to get the free activation you pay $299 +tax and then you have to wait two months for the $100 rebate.

So, even if I get charged the full $36 activation fee, I'm still far ahead.

Im in California and usually we get taxed for everything. For some reason it didnt happen this time.......one of the reasons I jumped on it.

Hi there,

I'm planning on ordering from Wirefly as well through the friends & family site link, but I'm a bit leery as there's been so many complaints lodged through their fb page about orders cancelled, unfulfilled, or with missing SIM cards. Also, I live in California and the friends & family site link seems to be 'locked' to a different zip code - will that affect our order since we live in a California Zip code?

Also, could you update when you receive your evo? I plan on purchasing one as a gift (I will be entering the recipient's number in) so that he may unwrap it and activate it near X-Mas. I also want to get it by Christmas + hassle-free.

I also have a 100$ Visa Giftcard and I was wondering if I could apply that to an online order or if I would have to phone in - I phoned yesterday however and they changed the price to 149.99, but if I mention the friends & family site, will they price match and be able to apply my Visa Giftcard (It works just like a prepaid debit card) + charge my credit card for the remaining balance?

If anyone could chime in that would be extremely helpful. :) Thanks!

Its not locked to specific zip codes but you have to change the area code before you start the order...my co worker used a link I sent her...it had my zip code so do this...after selecting the evo from the main page ...go to the top and select change zip code.

WELCOME FRIENDS & Family

Walmart option is good if you have a gift card...and they will price match

Yes I had to change the zip code before ordering. In fact the zip code that was on there......New York was charging taxes on the order. When I changed it to CA the taxes went away.

Well, they hate Michigan people. Charged me tax. Oh well.

I just set up my google account (Pre didn't use one), and ordered my Seidio dock, screen protectors, and Innocase II case and clip combo. Now all I need is my phone.

How long does it usually take for shipping after everything has been approved?

EDIT: Lol. I just tried an Ohio zip code (I live ~1 mile from the border) and there is no taxes for Ohio either.

Thank you so much, guys. :) I think I will take the plunge with wirefly, then.

Just one more question: Do I HAVE to enter in social security number? (The gift is for my significant other) It seems kinda hazardous, and in any case, he's not entering in a new contract, he's just extending his own and keeping the same data plan...

Is it possible to just enter in the PIN and leave the social security number out?

I dont remember them even asking for social security number?

Yes, they ask for the SSN and your Sprint PIN - since I was leery of this ( and because I also needed to use my Gift Card) I called up a representative and he needed the SSN as well. I spent nearly an hour on the phone with him because he just kept adding new things to the data plan and trying to change it! I kept stating that I just wanted the 119.99 phone, no changes to the existing plan and he just kept rattling off what he could add, what he already added, and if I was ready for checkout. No, I don't want those extra charges tacked on!

At the very end, when I expressed again that I did not want ANY extra charges, he tried adding accessories or a one-time payment of 69.99 for a replacement in the event of a loss. NO!

Anyway, I needed to pay with the Visa Giftcard (which had $100) so I needed to pay the difference of 19.99. I kept telling him this but he just entered in the gift card and hit submit, then told me it went through and was processing already so there was no need to worry. Since the giftcard only has 100$, I DO need to worry because there is still an extra charge of 19.99 I need to pay! He just kept assuring me it was fine and directing me to their customer service line (which is closed today). So I gave up and finally hung up, went to the site, and canceled my order, as it would not go through anyway because there is only 100$ in the giftcard and I don't want to incur any fees for cancellation after it has been shipped or anything...

As I cancelled it prior to it being shipped, should I be ok? Will Sprint be notified of a plan that wirefly submitted to them and double-charge us in any way or charge us for any add-ons that wirefly may have tacked on without my consent? I kept telling him I wanted NOTHING extra added, but who knows...

As I cancelled the order before it even processed, I hope that it also cancelled any information currently being sent to Sprint for review for an upgrade/extension.

I suppose I'll just wait for another deal...

Wal-Mart won't price match online prices so hopefully Best Buy/Radio Shack will come up with something good, soon!

If your plan is changed I would just call Sprint up and explain the situation. If you canceled right away and didn't receive a shipment notification I don't feel wirefly can have any grounds to charge you anything. On that note, neither can Sprint. Having said that, it might not be a bad idea to just give Sprint a call and make sure your current plan is exactly the way it should be.

Because of issues like the last poster mentioned I went ahead and made it to the Best Buy Reward Zone members night. I was first in line at the door (and frozen stiff because it was 33 degrees with high winds). I rushed In and grabbed the first BB Mobile staff member I could find. $211 later I walked out with my new white Evo (and a couple cheap DVD's). The $40 in Reward Zone points should be ready in 35 days.

I've noticed the battery life issue already, but have a couple car chargers & a Seidio Innocase case on the way. Happy, days ahead.

So I got lazy lasy night and didn't make the reward zone shopping event. I went there today and bought it anyway. I feel better about buying from the local BB than from ordering from an online place that has an iffy rep.

Regardless the phone is awesome.

I just got my Evo from Wirefly and have to say I am more then happy with the service I received. In the beginning of the process things got a little messed up because I was a little to fast on the buttons. Ended up ordering 2 phones at the same time, no fault of Wirefly. They straightened things out and gave me next day shipping for free because of my mess up. I think they went out of there way to make my experience a good one. I will buy again from Wirefly and would recommend them to anyone. Thanks Wirefly

Hit the Reward special myself. $40 store credit is not as good as saving $40, but oh well, I'll buy something nice for the phone with it. My new Evo is sitting on my desk now. I think it just smiled at me.

Ordered from wirefly last wednesday and the status of my order is still "processing...."

EDIT: Nice. A few minutes after griping about my order slowness I get an e-mail that it's shipping! :)

So... for those of you ordering from WF: keep in mind your order could sit in "processing purgatory" for about a week before anything changes.
