GPS Fix 9/18/2010 Over the Air

So now its Sunday instead of today? LOL 20th is two days away. We shall see.

That would be consistent with this report at xda three days ago. Maybe that is a two-source confirmation, or maybe the guy you talked to just read that thread or heard the same rumor.

Really, since there was a public announcement by Samsung and T-Mobile that a GPS updates is coming in September, and the month is already more than half over, none of this should be surrpising news except for a start date. And even such a start date does not mean that is when most users wiill get it, because firmware updates are typically staged to roll out over multiple days or even weeks after they start.

Yes, I had read that also, and if that person is correct, then my opinions on Froyo were accurate. This update will just be OTA MR, no FROYO.

Again, just my opinion, but expect FROYO well after the successful launch of G2. Late october, maybe even november. *My Opinion only, based on no factual information*

I have never read any credible indication that Froyo would be deployed to Vibrants during this month. This is about GPS, plus a few other fixes and tweaks. Very likely what is released will at least closely resemble the leaked ROM being tested today.

Exactly my point, I've never read any credible indication about Froyo in Sept for US customers either, but it appears many people are falsely thinking the European Froyo promise will apply to us too. :rolleyes:

Actually, that link is not to the new ROM, but to a hacked subset of the leaked firmware which somebody guesses is complete. But there are other links to flash the entire ROM.

Further, watching the testing of those who have applied the leaked ROM, there are mixed reviews. There are some very good tests. But most perniciously, just as has been the case with some other purported GPS fixes, what seems to work on first impression for others can turn out to fail later. The verdict on this fix for the Vibrant is not in yet.

Notably, the Sprint Epic also was supposed to included Samsung's GPS fixes upon release, but it is still plagued by a GPS replicable cache bug that takes at least a day to show itself. (And another new Epic-specific bug, too.) The Verizon Fascinate also has reports of problems by some users but not others.
 
I didn't apply the full leaked rom, according to the post at xda It's the gps files ripped from the leaked rom. that op being a senior member, their words carry weight in my eyes. i've tried other gps fixes that did nothing, this one nails it. Where ever the files came from, they work.

I just read your post again, i never said that was the full rom, only the files ripped from the leaked eclair rom that came out last week. Read what's written before you correct others friend, cause you corrected something I didn't even say

what will happen?

If nothing happens on the 18th, the countdown begins again for the other rumor date, the 20th.
 
So this won't have any "lag fix" (i.e. slow market, etc) at all then, right?

I agree with the person just above re: Froyo. I'd probably put my money on sometime in November.

Yes, I have to admit, I was going to make 2 recent Samsung purchases. Their new tablet PC, I was going to get on day 1, not anymore, I am not happy with their QC, and the way they handle customer complaints. For weeks Samsung customer support acted like I was crazy, and pretended they had never heard of any GPS problems. I was also going to get a Samsung LED Big Screen TV, not anymore. With all these different tint problems with their led technology, I say no thank you Samsung. I may still get their tablet, just depends on how well the gps "optimization" comes out.
 
I have a question...if i did the GPS fix where i changed the server and port to "supl.google.com", do i have to change it back for the update to work??
 
It's like with Sammy you have to know what you are getting into with them before you buy, and if you do buy you can't bytch about later.

Here is a suggestion for everybody. When the GPS "optimization" update is released, I suggest people do a factory reset prior to installing the update.

Again, this is just completely my personal opinion. I believe it is best to start with a clean slate, prior to any updates. Do a factory reset, this will put your phone, including any GPS changes you made, back to factory. Then apply the update. This can reduce any possible hick-ups during the update process.

Sure it might be a hassle to later install all your programs again, however, I firmly believe it is always best to do major updates on a clean slate.

To Do A Factory Reset, You have several options:

1) Dial in *#*#7780#*#*
2) Settings>Privacy>Factory Data Reset
3) Enter Recovery Mode, and do a data reset via Recovery mode.

Well it's now the 18th on the west coast. 18th on the east cost for 3 hrs now. Seems like this 18th rumor was not credible.

Okay, new countdown, the 20th.
 
Literally 41 minutes into the 18th here on the west coast, so I'm not sure if you can count this one out just yet. I mean who is to say the exact time the update will be released? But what the hell do I know anyways :P
 
Oh well, i guess not. I really would like to experience this phone how it was advertised to work. This my second Vibrant it is better than the first Vibrant I purchased but, it still lags and freezes. The GPS and location just does not work. No way would I ever consider another Samsung product if this is not fixed in a timely manner. Starting to remind me of the LG HDTV I bought a few years ago. Just bad QC. It would be an awesome phone if it were properly tested for bugs before rushing to market. Way to beat Apple Samsung!

I am. So then, how do they work? The only thing I know is that an update is rolled out in "waves," that is, not everyone will get an update at the same time. It could take days or weeks for the process to be completed.
