Root GPS/Navigation Issues

Barats

Android Enthusiast
This just started happening to me a few weeks ago. When i open the Navigation app and pick a location to go to, it never picks up a GPS signal. Just says Searching for GPS... at the bottom of the screen and the Navigation icon in the notification bar just stays gray. And it never pinpoints my exact location, just a general area of where I am.

I am running the latest version of MikG. Have no clue what is causing this. Cleared cache and dalvik cache and nothing.

And it does not matter what app I am running, it is not finding a GPS signal.

Any help??

Which navigation are you using? Google? Telenav?
Try downloading this and then hit a-gps to get a fix.

Worked for me anyway.;)

if you are on mikg3.whatever, it is sense based...so you could try to clear gps data you will need to know your phone MSL. if you dont know it, download an app in the market to find it for you..or call sprint customer service and ask for it

after MSL is obtained...

dial ##GPSCLRX#
enter MSL
reboot
turn GPS back on until it finds signal

I'm using the Google Maps Navigation. The icon is the blue triangle. It's the default navigation app.

The rom I am using is MikG 3.1

The app you had the link for. I downloaded it but am not too sure how to use it. Like where you said hit "A GPS", where is that?

@bigbear, that did not seem to work for me. Thanks, though!

Sorry, open the app..hit menu...click on tools....click on "manage a-gps state"
then follow on screen directions.

I tried that but did not work for me. Have no idea what is going on. This only started happening out of the blue a few weeks ago. Haven't really downloaded any apps in that time that may be interfering with it.

O.k....do you get a lock when you use google maps? Not google navigation (like you are using now). I wonder if you can download Telenav to try that.

The other thing I'm wondering is, and I'm not sure of this (maybe someone else will know), if it is kernel related...as in, flash another kernel...but don't quote me on that...if I think of anything else I will post again o.k.?:)

Edit: here's another thing you can try, just throwing this out there but, the gas buddy app uses gps to locate gas stations near you, see if that app will find a gps lock. (??)

Edit again: I just re-read your op saying no app will lock on gps....I'm still thinking

I was also wondering if it was kernel related, too but I flashed this kernel months ago and used GPS quite a bit with no issues. I can try another kernel flash if you think that is what it is.

I can also try TeleNav and see if that works. But in Maps, I also do not get a signal, either.

And that was the first thing I did was a wipe of dalvik and cache. And no luck.

ok if it was working originally and the all of a sudden it crapped out and wiping dalvik cache and cache did not work, then i would wipe dalvik cache and cache and re-flash the rom. it will not loose your data or setup. hopefully that should get it working again correctly.

Doesn't MikG 3.11 have a auto wipe built into it? or perhaps do the update version of it.

Edit: nevermind, just read he is on version 3.1....not 3.11..perhaps just the update will work

Updated to Mik G 3.11. Did a fresh install and wiped data, cache and dalvik before flashing as always. And still nothing. Still says searching for GPS signal in the Navigation app.

edit: Wait, wait, check out this thread here.

Do you have any nands of other sense roms ?

I was having a heck of a time with my gps and I restored a different rom altogether and used gps test, an app from the market. It too lets you clear and re aquire that agps info, I guess it is.

Once I got a lock with it I made a titanium backup of that app, went back to my original rom and it just worked. if it hadn't, I was going to restore that gps test app.

maybe that'll do it for you?

I actually do not think I have any anymore. I always make one, keep it for a little while, see that the rom is good to go and delete it. I've never had a GPS problem before.

And that link is for non Sensed based roms, correct? A lot of the stuff they are talking about I have no idea what it is.

This sucks not to have GPS on the phone to help get you around town when you don't know where somewhere is.

Updated to Mik G 3.11. Did a fresh install and wiped data, cache and dalvik before flashing as always. And still nothing. Still says searching for GPS signal in the Navigation app.

So, you were on v3.1 correct...then you flashed the v3.11 update or did you flash the full version v3.11?
If you flashed the 3.11 update, according to the op instructions you should wipe nothing.
quote--Update version is an UPDATE ZIP and u MUST to flash it over v3.1! (wipe nothing)
FullWipe version will WIPE YOUR DATA and is for those that didnt install v3.1 yet and/or had issues with the update zip.--end quote.

Maybe start fresh with the full wipe v3.11...:)

Edit: and If you did install the full wipe v3.11, you didnt wipe enough...wipe all, I mean all, except sd card..k? Not just date, cache, and dalvik.

that fix is for aosp roms and will not work with mikg3.11.

not sure if this works, but i remember that i read some where that updating prl and profile might help with gps signal.

ooops... :o

From the experiences with the edited mikG that I did the updater script does wipe just about everything. I would do everything at least once manually just to make sure though

Ok I updated my profile and PRL and did not seem to work.

Now I used to have 3.1. And it used to work on there and then I had issues. I found out in this thread there was a 3.11. Now I just did the full wipe method and installed the fresh new rom like you would normally. Did not do the update zip. Now maybe I did not wipe enough? Can someone explain which options besides Dalvik, Cache and Data to wipe? Should I also do a factory data reset? Wipe System? Just don't want to wipe something I should not.

I can try that and hopefully it works this time around.

Also, what is the difference in wiping data and a factory data reset option?

Thanks guys!

just wipe everything but the sd card.

Will do. Need to charge it up first and do all that and hopefully it works this time around. Need the GPS to function for convenience purposes.

Been away for awhile. I wiped EVERYTHING on the recovery. Everything except the SD card as instructed. Installed the latest MikG rom, 3.11. And still nothing. It still says Searching for GPS in the Navigation app. I get no turn by turn navigation and it never locks on to exactly my position.

Is there anything else to do?
