Root [GUIDE] Brick Recovery

for the guy that tried iroot, did you make sure in developer options to check usb debugging? Im the original person who tried this on the zv4 update, and it did work for me.

No, the original was 1.6. It looks pretty much the same.

Weird. The one I downloaded from your original post was 1.8.

They are the same, the confusion was just in the filenames. The originally posted file was named "LGLS740_20140414_LGFLASHv160_Download.zip", but the installer contained therein was "Setup_LGFlashTool_1.8.1.1023.exe". That is the same version that is currently linked in the OP.

The LG Flash Tool 2014 linked on XDA looks completely different, so it wouldn't work with the instructions in this guide.

Thanks for clearing that up...I was going off the file name on that.

The 2014 Flash Tool definitely has a different process...the thread I posted has instructions for restoring stock system though. Although it uses a kdz file instead of a tot file...don't know if it can be converted.

Hi, how can I completely undo this process and go back to the factory Boost LG Volt for a bit?

I learned after doing all this, that the service I was planning to use to flash the phone to Page Plus, will NOT work with a rooted phone. It needs to be stock first to flash to page plus, THEN root it. Oops.

If all you have to do is get rid of root, that can be done in the SuperSU app. If you need stock recovery, that should be in the zv4 ROM, just flash it with Flashify (before unrooting). However, the zv4 ROM is deodexed. If that is an issue, you'll have to flash back to zv3.

I don't know if you will be able to make a backup since you're flashing to a new carrier. Maybe if you write down all the settings when you switch over so you can restore them after you redo the backup, provided you have your MSL, of course.

Forgot screenshot...
Use the permanent unroot.

Got mine rooted, finally.

Couple of points, you may want to consider:
1. update host USB driver
2. get rid of USB hubs
3. get rid of VM, if you are using one
Congratulations! :)
Hopefully this will help the others. :)

MiniOS appears for a few seconds followed by Factory Reset Status 2.

HELP!

does "port 41" mean COM41?
when it says "firmware update" is that the "download screen"? or should I hold vol+ longer?

EDIT: hold on I'm making progress starting the flash process over, will update soon

This guide is extremely vague about whether you download things to your phone or computer!

Now I'm stuck here:
use Flashify to install the CWM image as Recovery Image.
Boot into recovery and use CWM to install SuperSU.

the CWM image is some kind of .bin file? It is a .img when my computer downloads it, but when I transfer it to my Volt, Flashify cannot see it.

EDIT2: got CWM installed, used this guide to attempt installing SuperSU. Oops, wiped data by confusing ROM with app; reset to factory default, not sure if I'm still root or v3 or v4 (I saved v3 before wiping data, so I guess it's v3?). Welp, trying again tomorrow.

My phone says it's rooted but the SuperSU app won't work so I used the app root app delete and I froze SuperSU. Some apps which require root work while which request superuser access don't work. I don't have access to a PC so and my cam recovery has some corrupted files. What do you suggest that I do to fix the problem?

Download SuperSU from the post and reinstall through cwm.

You got factory reset status 2 because you used the wrong mode in the flash tool. Make sure you use board mode.

Yes, port 41 is com 41... It's a com port. Yes, that's the download mode screen.

I will add clarification as to where to use things from.

Don't know why you're having trouble seeing the cwm image unless something is changing the suffix. It's an img file.

My clockwork mod has some corrupted files they appear in yellow writing when I go into it. Plus another problem that I'm having is I cannot write anything to my 32GB ExtSD card. I have about. 5GB available on it.

Thanks for clarifying download destinations. I installed Flashify in the Volt using Google Play and sent recovery.img from my computer to the Volt since the Volt refused to download it. Now CWM seems to want SuperSU to be on SD card or "sideload", not in the Volt's file system. But my computer cannot download SuperSU to SD card because SuperSU is an Android app. So I moved the SU .zip file from Volt file system to SD card, rerooted and reflashed, then went back into CWM recovery and installed SuperSU from SD card. WHEW

zv4 downloaded, radio downloaded (they don't like to download simultaneously)

You won't be able to download directly to the SD card unless you use the stock browser. Copy over with the stock file manager. Third party apps are not allowed to write to the external SD in KitKat. You will be able to patch that once rooted.

I have no idea what you mean about the yellow text. What does it say?

I have found it far easier to move things around on the Volt by plugging it into my computer and using Windows drag/drop and cut/paste rather than whatever methods (if any) are innate to Android. Is there a more functional Android OS that allows basic file manipulation, or am I overlooking some features?

Also I will try installing the zv4 ROM without wiping my zv3 data. Is this correct?
