Hey Guys,
Well like an idiot I performed the LG Update as well before I got to root so I had to follow the steps in this post to get rooted, CWM and Rom's but the good news is, I successfully did and am happily using Playful God's rom with CWM and Root. It took an hour or two just getting everything installed, Root, CWM, Rom but it's all good now.
I was intimidated at the steps at first but Kado's post has been fantastic and helpful. First thing, grab his zip file on the bottom of his post and grab OP's KDZ file in the first post, it has everything you need. Looking up the drivers with the LG app did not work for me so I pulled the drivers off of the Youtube video on how to root
here. I also used that video to Root my Marquee.
On your Marquee, don't forget to go into the settings menu and under the applications tab, choose development at the bottom and choose enable debugging.
Basically install the LG Drivers. Unzip and open Kado's folder and double click on Windows enabler. If you are on Windows 7, Run as an administrator. Then click left click on windows enabler in the taskbar and it should say "on".
I installed the msxml.msi file in his folder to be safe but I'm not sure if it's needed or not.
After you have windows enabler on and the drivers installed. while your phone is off. plug it into the computer via the usb cable and it will install the drivers. Then open up the KDZ FW UPD exe located in Kado's folder, run as an administrator and make sure that you have it set to
CDMA Smartphone and Diag.
My update failed the first 5 times because I was stupid and had it on CDMA, not CDMA Smartphone. Once I switched it over to CDMA Smartphone, I got it on the first try.
Once you have it set to CDMA Smartphone and Diag, find the KDZ file from OP on your computer and select it where it says KDZ file in KDZ FW UPD.
As I mentioned, I got it on the first try once I switched it over to the correct setting but basically you click "Launch Software Update" in the program and then turn on your phone right after that. It should say "S/W Update in Progress" If you did it successfully.
When you click Launch software update, the program might freeze for a bit since it does not start the update until you turn the phone on. If the Update is successful, your phone will reboot with the Sprint logo and you'll boot up your phone. My Marquee got stuck in the Sprint Boot loop so I followed 9B on Kado's steps and it worked fine. Just have to a factory reset.
Well I hope my post wasn't too confusing but after I booted my phone, I watched the root video and rooted, then installed CWM from the forums and then installed my ROM and now I'm a happy customer.
When you factory reset or do the S/W update, you don't have to worry about losing service or reactivating, I did not have to do either although I was concerned that I might have had to.
If I'm leaving anything out, check out Kado's post because I followed it and it worked for me. If you have any questions, feel free to post in here or if you need to contact me. You can email me at
jsnovak@ameritech.net and worst case is, we can always talk over the phone but hope this additional post helps and Have fun,
~Novak
