Root [GUIDE] Howto Root LG Motion 4G

Hi, I have an LG Motion 4G from Metro PCS and I just tried rooting it according to the instructions here. I noticed after that the link to the steps is labeled "LG Optimus" I don't know if it's the wrong one or it works for both. Anyways here's where I'm stuck...

I downloaded 'o4xr.zip' and extracted it to 'C:\'

Made sure "charge only" "USB debugging" and "unknown sources" were ticked

Downloaded "IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed.apk" (onto the computer and copied it to my phone)

Installed "IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed.apk" on my phone via 'All In One ToolBox's' batch installer, then opened it. I saw the screen that said "Hello World" and I did 'turn off and restart"

It didn't take longer than usual to reboot, but after it did I ran command prompt and typed in "cd C:\o4xr" that worked fine and it came up with "O4XR:" where I typed "root". After that it said

"DON'T TOUCH THE DEVICE OR UNPLUG WHILE ROOTING!
PUSH FILES
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *"

It never rebooted automatically, I even tried restarting it myself and removing the backup and it still doesn't work. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? That would be a big help... Thank you!

If you read back earlier in the thread you'll see that the command prompt doesn't work, at least not if you type that file path. There is an extra layer with another "04xr" folder so you either need to use that path (04xr\o4xr) to get to it, or just forget the command line and navigate to it in Windows then double-click root.bat and it will run.

ok cool. so typing "o4xr\o4xr" and then "root" will work? and thats and 'o' not a zero right? lol. also, it seems like my google chrome isnt working now. i type in something and itll just stay. being a blank white screen.

Just open the o4xr folder, and move the other o4xr folder to your c:

this way all you need to type is

cd c:\o4xr
enter
root
enter

Lol, ok so this is kinda funny... i had taken off the backuptester and was downloading the drivers posted on page 6, i had left open the command prompt and was going to re-copy the backup and try again. Then as soon as i see "LG drivers successfully installed!" command prompt popped up and finished itself and rebooted my phone in a flash. i guess it rooted because im now able to access SuperSu. but should i be worried that the backup wasnt on my phone when it happened? also, what are some necessary things i need now that my phone is rooted? i dont know too much about the possibilities of superuser permissions.

Without recovery yet be cautious:)
Thanks to sammyz there is a way back to stock(but that means starting all over from square one).
Check out the sticky for apps safe to remove (that is if you don't use them);)

There are no ROMS yet(AKA no recovery)-watch that with the text-if it continues to do that you might want to revert back to stock/unrooted until recovery is established;)

Not sure why but has happened with my Esteem too.
My son tried rooting his Motion on his laptop-would not do it. Follow the same direction on my laptop and rooted on the first try.
ADB drivers were not installed on his laptop automatically when the Motion was plugged in but uploaded immediately on my laptop when USB debugging was enabled.
Wiggy phones or computers :dontknow:

Yea debugging was on but u know when u connect it to your PC your computer makes that noise like a device has been connected well this one wouldn't do it yet I used same cable and PC detected my esteem just fine I told my friend to take it back to metro but cocky arrogant metro pcs store owner thinks he knows it all and says it's the PC not the phone.

Great instructions worked first try. Glad I read and didn't try using CMD prompt. Just ran root.bat Thanks to all who contributed. Eveything works great just can't get wifi tethering to work. Only works for google websites. Any help would be welcome.

OP udated for noobs or people that need better understanding

Ok, so it looks like there's going to be no recovery so I will just try rooting my phone. Questions:

The LG Optimus Guide is the same thing for this phone?

Will I lose my contacts if I have to recover/reset?

Fantastic. If I could get answers this fast to everything in life. You answered exactly one minute after I posted the question. You do realize that means you need to get a life, don't you? Thanks:)

Metro uses OS fingerprinting to block tethering. You'll have to install a user agent switcher computer side and tell it you're Android. I use Firefox with user agent switcher. Works a charm, just watch the amount of data or they might get suspicious.
