Root [GUIDE] Howto Root LG Motion 4G

Metro uses OS fingerprinting to block tethering. You'll have to install a user agent switcher computer side and tell it you're Android. I use Firefox with user agent switcher. Works a charm, just watch the amount of data or they might get suspicious.

I think if you switch ua to Mac it will also work. I have been able to load full web pages on my phone as a Mac user agent but not as a desktop ua.

gbiggie i dont have the lg motion and was trying to root it for a friend but i did noticed while trying to use a wifi tether app that required no root that the phone's hotspot kept turning on like the actual mobile hot spot spot app that comes with the phone and kept telling me you have to add it to your plan to use it so my question is do u think we can uninstall that app and then use the tether no root app?

anyone know how to make the custom user agent permanent in IE9...???
development tools is only temporary, and must be reset to custom entry often

noob question here,
3. Then download the app "IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed.apk" from that site/post as well and copy it to your phone to the root of your sd card
what do you mean by "root of my Sd card"

EDIT: NM

i do have a question about the "superSU" step.

when i got here it didnt give me an option to update, only to open.

EDIT: NM it all worked and im rooted. thanks guys!

my pc was really slow to install the lg drivers and recognize the phone the first time I plugged it in, you have to wait for that before it will root properly, even though windows may see it and the sd, the lg drivers won't be ready.

also the phone seems a little bit slower after rooting, removed the sysbackup program right after i confirmed root, rebooted but just feels a little slower on the home screens and loading the app drawer.

Yes; in the Settings menu, under connectivity, there are specific USB modes you can select, one being "Installer".

When set to installer, Windows AutoPlay will run the LG driver installation package and install various drivers to the computer. Then the drivers all updated on my next reconnect out of Installer mode. Drivers that failed to retreive from Windows Update initially were then successfully updated from the copied/installed files automatically.
Just bought the Motion about 3 hours ago, Setttings > Connectivity I don't see "Installer" mode, I do have a "LG Software" option. I enabled it, but got a failure to install drivers on the PC. Windows 7 Ultimate (x64), Android 4.0.4.. Will try the manual downloaded drivers.

Correction/Update - the "Installer" mode is what you get when you select the LG software mode. I just installed them, it waits for the signal from the LG software package. D/L'ed the LG Drivers and B2CApp from LG's website. Now will see if I can root it, for Tibo .unless someone has a better app?
Just want a way to backup everything.

Wow thanks for this awesome guide and for everyone who put work into getting everything working had my LG Motion rooted in 2 minutes.

I just got this phone ,2 days ago... since metro and T-Mobile will be the same company its a great deal.

I rooted it, and i have deleted 72 elements wothout having any problems.

This is all you can freeze or delete:

So I've been able to SUCCESSFULLY root two LG Motions with this procedure. Thank you there; but I only have two questions.
The phone is wanting to keep updating. I have Titanium Backup, but to freeze OTA update is only available in the PRO version. So can anyone say if the update is a fix or upgrade? I mean if it's going up to Jellybean (only in a perfect world), cool I would want it. Anything else, nah. So is there any other way to circumvent the update, seeing as I can't use Titanium to freeze it?

3. Then download the app "IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed.apk" from that site/post as well and copy it to your phone to the root of your sd card
4. Now open Settings>scroll down to security and check unknown settings
5. Then go to developer options in settings and check usb debugging
6. Now on a file explorer on the root of your sd card install "IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed.apk

im stuck and i dont know what im doing wrong....when i dl "is11lg_systembackuptest.signed.apk" it dl's as a zip. then i found the zip package and drag n dropped it to my sd card. i tried extracting it first on the comp then putting it on the card. i also tried putting it onto the card as a zip file and extracted it through es file explorer with no luck of finding the ".apk" that i have to install. i hope i explained this clearly. can anyone help me out?

I downloaded it, it was just a .apk file, where do I put that?

Okay first Question will the unbrick guide take away root? And I highly recommend that we shouldn't uninstall system apps because that may be the reason why some of y'all are having problems. Remember our phone can DISABLE apps.
