Root [GUIDE] Howto Root LG Motion 4G

I've tried this several times

It's still hanging on daemon started successfully

When I open the backup test app, all it says is Hello world....and nothing else...

so I'm assuming once it says that, you power down and reboot

Debugging is on

I ran the command prompt , and it's just hanging.....

rm failed for /data/local.prop no such file or directory ......

It says that at the end right? Did the phone reboot?

I had an error like that as well, but it still rebooted and had a successful root. It flashed by so fast, though, that I couldn't read it.

Is the phone sluggish after rebooting with the test app?

Sure the phone is in Charge Only USB mode?

It says that at the end, and says reboot, and reboots the phone....it did not push anything to the phone so it can't be rooted....and it's not

a tiny bit sluggish, not much...and yes...in charge mode only...

Yea...

Turns out it did actually root even with the error message.....

I am going to wait until someone posts a awesome rom, and I am going to try a custom rom for the first time, but that is only if there is a way to go back to stock if need be.

- First of all make sure you got the motions drivers all installed and the phone is in usb debugging.
- Download these.
*the rooting folder (o4xr)- http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1297942&d=1346603576
*the apk - http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1245330&d=1344276357

- Put the apk in your sd card and install it.
- Open the apk called "SystemBackupTest" and then restart your phone.
- Plug your phone to your pc and make sure its in "charge only" mode.
- Run cmd as administrator.
- Type without quotes "cd C:\o4xr" and press enter. MAKE SURE THE ROOTING FOLDER (o4xr) IS IN THE ROOT OF YOUR "C" HARD DRIVE.
- Type without quotes "root" and press enter.
- It might fail, just run again after phone reboots.
- that should be it.

Any questions just pm me.

I'm trying to run it, and followed exactly these steps (and there's s youtube video with the same steps too).

Problem is when i enter the "root" script, it hangs.

Code:
DON'T TOUCH THE DEVICE OR UNPLUG WHILE ROOTING!
PUSH FILES
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
- that's it. Just stays there. I'm guessing it can't find my device? Do I need to install specific LG Motion drivers or should that be installed on connecting it?

Go to the LG website and download the drivers for the LG Motion then run the script. Should work, I had the same problem.

I cant get my phone to root. I followed the directions. When I type root, this is what is says..Root is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Please Help!!

I followed the instructions listed as the xda site for the LG Optimus, which I believed would work for my LG Motion....the script failed when I ran it at the prompt. It did reboot. But not rooted? What am I doing wrong?

Did you install the backup system app?

having done this a couple of times on a couple of different pcs i can now say that the driver install ( the right ones ) are very important . i would advise all to not plug the phone in your pc before you have installed and rebooted the drivers . also , if you receive a error check for supersu icon anyway as the root may have taken .
thanks to all for your input .
now for a guide to get this down to a basic ics looking home screen with app tabs would be nice .
what are the must haves and must get rid of to clean up this metro mess ?

@aaronmy, I think maybe you should give better instructions on how to root....it seems people keep messing up...

Yes I installed that. Ran it. Got "hello world" hit power off/reboot. Ran the c:\root script and it says can not install box, superuser, superuser.adk or something like that. the phone reboots.

Here are the steps I followed from the XDA Forum. Of course the files needed are attached at that site.

GUIDE

  1. Download, Unzip and Install the LG USB Driver.
  2. Download and extract the Root kit (o4xr.zip) to "C:\o4xr"
  3. Download and copy "IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed.apk" to your phone
  4. On your phone, go to "Settings -> Security" and make sure "Unknown Sources" is TICKED
  5. Go to "Settings -> Developer options" and make sure "USB debugging" is TICKED
  6. Install "IS11LG_SystemBackupTest.signed.apk"
  7. Open the "SystemBackupTest" app you just installed.
  8. Hold the power button and choose "Power off and restart".
  9. When you can see the lock screen, you may notice that the phone is running very slowly, this is normal.
  10. Connect your phone via USB to your computer.
  11. Make sure the phone is in "Charging Only" mode.
  12. Open a command prompt (may need admin privelages, right click, run as administrator)
  13. Type without quotes "cd C:\o4xr" and press enter.
  14. Type without quotes "root" and press enter.
  15. Wait while the script runs, and the phone will reboot automatically.
  16. You should then see the command prompt "C:\o4xr>".
  17. Uninstall the "SystemBackupTest" app on your phone. (Do NOT re-open it, or you will need to run the script again).
  18. On your phone, open up Google Play Store and search for "SuperSU".
  19. Update SuperSU then open it.
  20. Press OK to update the SU binary.
  21. You now have root and can safely restore the "Unknown Sources" and "USB debugging" settings back to how you had them!
