Here is the screen shot you asked for, as you can see, it doesn't all fit in a paste/copy but perhaps enough for you to pick up on the fact that "adb shell" does not work in the command prompt, only "adb." What's run remote shell interactively?

No, I will have to keep working on this. Cutting, cropping, pasting yields too many words to post and when I cut down the size nothing loaded. Is there a way I can send it as an attachment?

Hey everyone,

just found this thread and am trying to make this work.
downloaded and unzipped fine.
Added htc sync and got it up and running

when i do the cmd stuff this is what i get:

C:\Users\Scott\cd\android-sdk-windows\tools

C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb shell
$ pm setInstallLocation 2
pm setInstallLocation 2
$

I dont get the daemon part that was discussed, and I followed the instructions to the best of my ability

A new app install still tries to install into app storage.
Its not working. Anything someone can help with?

Its not a very good solution this. It may still have partly worked.

Do you know of any applications (that were not pre-installed) that previously couldnt be moved? Check if they now can be.

I looked and I could move avg and twitter. neither really function when they are moved. so they got moved back. i could do a step by step guide with screenshots if that would help aid in getting it working right.

It's working...

There are only 5 steps so not sure what you'll be adding

Do what you want though

I get the problem of it just saying

C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>adb shell
$ pm setInstallLocation 2
pm setInstallLocation 2
$

I can't do a sync because no matter what I do or which computer I do it on, my phone refuses to mount the SD card with HTC Sync and just whinges with "Fail to mount/unmount device storage card". Did work with HTC Sync before I updated though :S

Apps still download to the internal memory too, am I doing something wrong in the process? Can provide screenshots if more info is necessary

Yes, thats right. No error so it completed successfully.

you dont need to run htc sync. It just needs to be there for the drivers

Couple of things, it doesn't always change the install location but it let's you move apps that you couldn't previously. Download "apps2sd" and see what it will let you move

Thanks for your reply :)

I don't really want to download anything else because I'm having a really irritating problem with the fact that every time I download something, move it to the SD, it still takes up the same amount on my internal memory

Take Angry Birds Space for example, 27MB of my internal space gone, move it to SD, but no more space has been freed up on my phone, just taking up that amount on both now.
Happened with Chrome too, even though I uninstalled it, still took up 7MB, so I don't want to install anything that isn't 100% necessary :(

Well theres obviously something wrong there. Suggest you download mybackup pro trial, backup and factory reset

Thanks for this wee trick; hopefully it will give my Desire a new lease of life without rooting until upgrade is due in 2-3 months............ :D
Then when I've got my new phone I can have a go at this rooting lark

So from now until June-ish the big question on my mind (in fone land anyway) is
One X or Galaxy Note???? hmmmmm

I've been looking at the note. One point. It's nearly 7 months old and still pricey. If you're getting a 24 month contract, it'll feel like a dinosaur by upgrade time

That is the thing that's bothering me; my Desire feels like it can still compete almost 2 years on.
I've doubts the Note will have the same longevity whereas the quad core One is right at the forefront ... will keep an open mind though!
Anyway mustn't take this thread off topic.

This is great info. I'm looking into trying this with my Samsun Galaxy Apollo.

No matter what I do internal storage keeps getting eaten up by updates and I have to constantly clear cache of every app and am constantly removing apps (not that I have many installed).

I hope this will help me free up enough space to allows certain apps to continue growing/bloating with updates and still have the apps I want installed for convenience.

Can anyone verify this is easily reverted?
And what the command(s) are to change the install location back?
Also, if I was to change the install location back would that prevent any non-moveable apps that I moved from functioning?

Sorry for double post but also wondering...

If and how it will affect any apps that run as services in the background, that sync and/or use push?
