Root [Guide] Optimus V ROMS do flash with touchscreen working!!

sammyz

LG Whiz Kid
EDIT: A NEW Guide has been created and IS working MOSTLY correct:
http://androidforums.com/optimus-m-...e-porting-lg-vortex-optimus-t-v-s-roms-m.html

Edit: This is mostly for the devs if they want to port something from the OV to the OM
(I'm sure they know this already)
But if you want to try out another ROM from the OV and maybe kindly ask a dev if they could port it to the OM then here's how you test the ROM.

Original Post:
Idk if this is new and if anyone knew this or not...
I flashed 2 Optimus V ROMS to my Optimus M with the same results:
Flashes and installs correctly (check)
Touch Screen works (no)
Buttons work correctly (no)

So I changed the boot.img in the .zip file to the one from Bobzhome's
CyanogenMod (I'm sure you can use others as well) and this is what I got:
Flashes and Installs correctly (check)
Touch screen works (check)
Buttons work correctly (check)
Connects to MetroPCS (of course not)

Edit:
Camera works (check)
Bluetooth works (it turns on without errors, I haven't connected it to anything)
GPS works (same as bluetooth)
Wifi (nope, it says error)
Sound works (check)

So the second ROM I flashed was this one
[ROM] ICSandwich2.3.7 - Final Edition [January 9, 2012]

Its confusing to me because it says ICS but then it says 2.3.7 which is gingerbread, also it is a cyanogenmod ROM.
Is that ICS or a themed Gingerbread??? (End of original post)

EDIT:
DO NOT UNZIP AND REZIP, USE WINZIP OR 7ZIP TO REPLACE FILES, UNZIPPING AND REZIPPING WILL CAUSE IT TO NOT FLASH AT ALL!

EDIT:
As soon as more issues are worked through, a more complete guide will be made. Please feed back if you are trying this and there are posts that say how to fix wifi (continue reading through the posts).
*You can do this to other gingerbread ROMs from the Optimus S or Optimus V
*Froyo ROMS have not been tried and it may be different to fix wifi (try the methods in the posts below and please feedback with results)
*ICS will not boot with this method but another method may work (maybe try the boot.img from the ICS that does boot on our phones)

It says 2.3.7 so yes.. It's gingerbread and yes it's themed... cm9 is not official yet and bob and I are they only ones who have made booting ICS 4.0 roms for the optimus line.. And not much is working on them

yea i found the actual ICS on androidcenter and it doesnt boot on my phone at all, but i do like the themed gingerbread, too bad wifi doesnt work at all (I dont have service so idc about connecting to metro right now), ik bluetooth does work though

It might just be my phone though becuz I'm actually using the second version of Bobz cyanogenmod, (he made 2) becuz the newest one on the OP wouldnt boot on a few phones and that included mine unfortunately.

Edit: oh, its an alpha build, lol. always make sure you read the tiny print

I also tried their MIUI v4 ROM, and it did the same thing. So i guess it's just ICS ROMs?

I guess.......maybe we should try it when its closer to final bcuz ICS is in Alpha build still for the OV....

I wonder what happens when you try flashing the Optimus S roms or the Optimus One.....the Optimus C is not a problem at all bcuz its a twin to the Optimus M, the only thing different is probably just programming, PRLs, APNs, etc...

Just dled a CM7.2 ROM from the Optimus S, and edited the boot.img, but before I flash, does the S have built-in radio? because I don't want to brick my phone. xD

EDIT: The Optimus S successfully booted. Except the weird thing is, the menu button is set as the home button, and the home button is set as the menu button. xD

The same thing also happened with the Optimus S's CM9 ROM. :(

As far as ik, the V, S, C, M are very similar phones, the C and M are twins!
I already posted a link to this guide on the Optimus C thread, it seems pretty dead though...
Maybe the same thing happens vice versa with the S and V...

It would be really nice if we could easily fully port this to our phones just by switching up some files, so if a dev made a ROM for one phone, it would be pretty much universal with the three other ones. But I'm afraid it's probably not gonna be that easy. :)

APNs have to be ported too as well as files and the build.prop file, and drivers, idk what else. If we could easily find the directories of where all this was located and its just as easy as replacing a couple files, then we basically could get any ROM ported.
The OV ROM I posted in the OP, I lost Market app after reboot and it said it was installed but when I tried opening it it wouldnt, it may just be becuz it needs wifi or some data connection working.
Oh and tell me what worked and what didnt when you flashed the Optimus S ROM, did the radio work correctly, could you dial without losing connection??

and I posted this guide on the C, S, and V forums on here, I think the V is more popular on another website, maybe xda??

IHO is what all of our cyanogen roms are built from. We don't compile from cyanogen source, we compile from the IHO repo which is basically just modified cyanogen source for our crap phones...

Basically the same as the V ROM. WI-FI didn't work. accelerometer didn't work. I can't test data because my phone doesn't have Metro service on it. Maybe you could test it? but the touch screen works, the buttons sort of work. Overclocking works. The camera works. I also tested a Optimus T ROM and an LG Vortex ROM, and the same thing happened.

Ok I tried porting it without that guide and it wouldnt flash at all
I tried replacing only the files it said to and now it flashed :D
Lets see if it boots and if wifi works :D:D:D

EDIT: Booted successfully :D
Wifi still errors out :(
Signal still does not work :(

I don't have service either, but it still should allow u to place a collect call when it does work.
Isn't the Optimus T for T-mobile and isnt that a GSM phone??

Oh I just found out that to get it to still be able to flash you cannot extract and rezip becuz that takes off the signature and the phone's recovery won't allow it to flash

Yeah, I usually just open the archive with 7zip and replace the files in there without extracting them.
