Root [Guide]ROOTING HTC android 2.2.1 or lower with unrEVOked - Windows (updated 20th December 2012)

Well first time it failed and terminated. I closed unreEVOked and unplugged the phone, repeated and now it's on "waiting for system to settle..." Been on there for 5 mins. :/

3.21, Froyo and reversed install yes. Checked app drawer, no SU. Is there a way to check the reverse went OK? I set to 0 and it came back to a prompt, but given the game i had earlier, worth checking...

Closed everything, did the reverse again setting installlocation to 0 without problems. Ran 3.21 again and it's on waiting for system to settle. Me thinks it's not working (4th time). I'm calling it a night and let's see if it's settled come morning (or afternoon!).

The phone is low on space, this wont be causing issues will it?

Installed a few apps and they went straight to phone, so installlocation is definitely 0. Removed a few apps so had lots of space and it worked first time.

So might be worth mentioning that you need a certain amount of space.

errors are in the root faq which is linked on this guide
Another error received is "Internal error: installing package failed." This can sometimes be down to there not being enough space on the device in "internal storage". You can delete some apps or even wipe as a possible work around.

this is my spec

bravo pvt1
hboot-0.93.0001

touch panel-synt0101
radio-5.11.05.27

I followed this manual, and everything was ok .. recommend

Just wanted to say a massive thanks for all the effort. Read through the guide and the FAQ several times so I knew exactly what to do and made the whole procedure so simple. Now rooted and running MIUI. This has made my phone feel brand new again! Can't thank you enough man! Cheers

Thanks for the guide. I'm all ready to root my phone but there is one area I just wanted to confrim.

The link to AmonRA doesn't seem to be working (prompts for a username / password). Can I use Unrevoked without it? My phone comes up with the 40,000 size when I look it up in terminal so I presume I can't based on the FAQ.

Get the username and password from the ultimate tool box thread. I need to edit these links back to dropbox at somepoint

you can, use the amonRA 2.0.1 from that link
you will need to get the username/password from the root tools thread (2nd to last page)

Hi, I was reading your notes in Android forums about rooting. My question is after you have installed HTC sync then un-installed the program, and once rooting has been compared can I re install HTC sync to use. Many thanks. Kevin.
Keep up the good work.

Once rooted, do I need to do anything different when installing a different ROM i.e. do I have to back things up, will I loose all my apps, settings..etc. Or will installing a new rom just override my current one?
Cheers

I have successfully rooted my phone. I have the superuser ninja icon in my app drawer, but when unrEVOked was trying to install the recovery image it gave me a message saying unsupported radio. It also says the installation was aborted. I'm guessing then that the image wasn't installed. What went wrong, and how do I fix it. The root is good, but not the main reason I was doing this I wanted to install a custom ROM. I'm going to guess that I can't since I don't have the recovery image. Is that correct? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated thanks.

It's correct. Use alpharev or revolutionary to gain s-off then flash recovery of your choice.

What radio do you have? Does your phone use a sim card or not?

No sim card I'm on a CDMA network. The radio is 2.05.10.08.11 Might need a walk-through on the S-Off thing. I think I saw it on another post, I've been reading the forums for the past couple hours. So, where I saw it could be somewhere else tis a bit late. I saw something on CDMA Desires having that option off by default. I could be wrong on that. Thanks for the quick reply.

I tried the Revolutionary and it said that my device is not supported at this time. I have HBOOT 0.98.000 I don't know if that helps or not, read into the alpharev thing. I don't quite understand what it's saying. I'm a computer guy, and it may just be cause it's late that I'm not quite getting it. Is there anything else I can try or maybe a more in-depth guide to alpharev.

If you're cdma you should be s-off already (or maybe need to use unrevoked forever) I'm not familiar with cdma.

I guessed you might be cdma due to the radio error you got.

Best bet is to create a new thread, with rooting / s-off cdma desire and put your android version in the title.

In the thread put all the information from your hboot screen and what you have done and have so far.

You will need s-off and to flash a compatible recovery but I don't know what this will be

The unrevoked forever idea worked like a charm I now have S-Off on my phone. I don't know how many CDMA Desires are out there, and if I missed it on your guide then I'm sorry. If it's not already up there I suggest adding that in. May help out someone else in the future. I thank you for all your help in this it was greatly appreciated.

Well Unrevoked should work on CDMA desires under Hboot 1.02 so not sure why that happened with you. Need to ascertain why the recovery did not work. Will need some info from other cdma users. S-off is not part of this guide anyway.
