Root [Guide]ROOTING HTC android 2.2.1 or lower with unrEVOked - Windows (updated 20th December 2012)

Mi device is still in warranty. So, they might not charge anything.

Okay. So, I will try to get the FroYo installed from the HTC service center. Then, check the hboot version. If it is less than 1.02, I will go ahead and root with the unrevoked method. This should work, right?

If anything from the above plan, goes wrong. I will delay the rooting for a while. Read the revolutionary documentation and then, will take up the rooting using revolutionary.

0.96? But, the instructions say that unrevoked can be used for HBoot smaller than 1.02. Revolutionary has been recommended for 1.02 and higher. Then why 0.96? Just trying to understand...

My apolgies, I thought I had updated that (I actually remember typing it). I must not have saved the post.

Updated now.

1.02 is CDMA which Unrevoked cannot root.
0.96 is what comes with the dev only GB release, which unrevoked cannot root.

Thanks. Then, smaller than 0.96 it is.

Btw, you might want to update the following part also -

HBOOT 1.02 OR HIGHER

For hboot 1.02 or higher, there is a joint project by the unrevoked and alpharev teams. It is very much in BETA phase at the moment so try this, as always - at your own risk.

Hate to be a pain, but I think the GB dev RUU installs 1.02, while the CDMA upgrade is 1.06.

I've just checked the revolutionary wiki, and they agree with my memory (I'm lousy with names, but usually good with numbers).

I have a GB dev RUU installed. And in the HBoot, it says -

BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.02.0001

So, I guess you are right.

Got the point were I need to use unrevoked now, and it is just saying waiting for device even thought it is plugged in and debugging is enable, what connection type must be used for unrevoked to work

Iv been reading about nandroid and clockwordmod but everytime I search for clockworkmod it comes up rom manager? which this forum says dont use

edit: scrap this last post I am now doing a nandroid back up

If you want to use an a2sd+ ROM, then it's simplest to partition the card first (essential for any ROM that uses one of the older scripts).

Hi

Thanks for the wonderful guides!!!
Makes the newbies life much easier, though we need to read read and read as much as possible to understand the concepts and methods to be very clear.

My basic requirement is to enjoy extra space and use the goodies of custom rom.
After going through so many posts below is my understanding.

My phone details
HTC Desire - Unbranded (India)
PVT3 - SHIP S-on (still checked n found - Erase size 20000)
Hboot - 0.93.0001
Currently on OTA 2.2

1. Root the phone with UnrEVOked
2. Create Gold card (to be safer, so even if I cant find my RUU I can flash the available one)
3. Do a2sd+ for partitioning
4. Choose a ROM and flash it using the guide (my choice sense Rom:) )

From my understanding, my phone do not need S-OFF.

Could you pls confirm if my understanding is correct? just want to make sure I am clear with steps so that I can go ahead unleash the power as many here say is awesome!

Thanks again
