Root [Guide]ROOTING HTC android 2.2.1 or lower with unrEVOked - Windows (updated 20th December 2012)

Does this work if you upgraded your htc desire to 2.3 gingerbread???

Also I seem to have an issue in getting hboot screen to come up follow instructions to a T. Even seen the video on another page where it worked but no matter what it just starts as normal. No hboot screen.

Also i downlaoded that app to see if it is 20,000 or 40,000 but when i typed in the address in the instructions it came up with file not found.

Thanks in advance.

seems like you didnt read the guide properly.

Did you miss this bit:

Hboot version, PVT and Erase size.

  • Boot into Hboot (from off, hold volume down and press power)
  • Make a note of your Hboot version - Must be lower than 1.02 If not READ THIS
  • Make a note of your PVT version. If it is PVT4 you must now check if the erase size is 40,000
  • "Download Terminal emulator" from the market and open it.
  • Type "cat /proc/mtd" and press enter. It will return results of either 20,000 or 40,000

Or is your hboot lower than 1.02?

PVT is 20,000 and the HBoot version 1.2.0001. So what do i do now? cheers for the quick reply

Ok cheers, wasnt sure if the added 1 at the end effected it. Once again thank you for the advice.

Worked a treat. I'm now able to move some apps to the SD card and free up the internal storage in my desire that was always filling up! Looking forward to seeing what else I can do now I'm rooted :D Thank you.

afternoon peeps, I'm trying to root my desire and have followed your instructions, but when I get to the bit just before I actually start using the unrevoked, however when I go to the device manager I'm getting ADB with a question mark, I've tried pointing the machine to the drivers that you inform us to download, but it doesn't make a difference. Any help? I've tried uninstalling it and re-installing it but no luck

No, when I'm in HBOOT the PC recognises it fine, but as soon as the desire is rebooted and in debug I get that message in DM

Thanks for the help

I feel I may have missed a part then. Once I put the phone into recovery attach the usb I get the 'HBOOT USB' but do I just leave the phone in that mode to start revoke?

No, you have a seperate driver for when the phone is booted, which is from HTC sync.

Think of it like this

Phone in hboot = 1 device
phone in android = another completely different device.

You need the hboot driver for the first device and the HTC sync driver for the 2nd device. Its the second device that you use for Unrevoked, but during the process, unrevoked will also need the first device (when it reboots etc).

Hope this clarifies.

As per post 1:

  • Install HTC Sync

  • Remove HTC sync (application only) via Control panel (add remove programs / programs and features) - This should leave the drivers behind, which we need to keep.

HTC Desire
Software version 2.**.405.*
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
Touch Panel-synt0101
Minrop-031d
radio-5.11.05.27

20,000
Anything else you need mate?

Nope just wanted to check you are definitely compatible. ...and you are.

If its stuck at pushing recovery, it probably is a driver issue.

I would probably recommend uninstalling both drivers, rebooting the system and reinstalling both drivers again (ensuring to remove HTC sync and ANY other android program that may use adb)

Also if its a desktop PC, ensure you are using the REAR USB ports, not front ones.

hey im stuck with unrevoked on screen saying waiting for bootloader make sure driver is installed and the phone is in hboot usb plug screen mode. how long do i leave it like this i dont want to unplug it? allready done the drivers update thing step by step fine. removed htc sync, ran unrevoked, plugged in phone with debug mode and revoked pushed the recovery then rebooted my phone the stopped at where i am now. any ideas?
