Help HELP! EVO wont boot, keeps restarting itself at Sprint screen!

I'm not rooted. Having the same exact problem as everyone else.

I have a 16GB ROM - I took it out and put in the 8GB the phone came with.

I do a hard reset, ie: remove the battery

Then I hold down the volume and power button to get to the boot screen.

I've tried several things things mentioned to no avail.

That takes me to a screen where I get these options:

HBOOT:

FastBoot
Recovery
Clear Storage
SimLock
HBoot USB

I've tried the first three already but am going to try them each again to show what happens.

First FastBoot: I get a series of messages that goes too fast for me to read but the last thing it says is "No Image or Wrong Image"

Then I try Recovery: The Phone goes to the start up screen and then I get the black screen with the red triangle.

I do a hard reset again.

Now I'm back at the HBOOT and I select Clear STorage - I had to do this twice because I hit the wrong button, the one to decline erasing the user data and it went to the start up screen and starting looping. So, a hard reset...

This time I clear the storage and get the start up screen.

Whoops! Looks Like I'm in. I have to go through all the introductory screens.

Okay. So, now I want to put my 16GB back in. Hosanna! It worked. But all my stuff is gone anyway.

Oh well....

But the last thing I did was a reboot the bootloader or something. Anyway, now everytime I turn the phone on I just get a black screen with with a red triangle with an exclamation mark over a pic of a phone.

So, now I don't know what to do. I suspect the phone is now a brick.
what exactly did you do? so you can't boot up at all? have you tried pulling the battery out?

ok good glad that worked. but when you clear storage it is doing a hard reset or factory reset.

My phone kept rebooting, or looping, and taking battery out did not fix it.

I did fix it doing the following steps.

Pushed the down volume and the top off switch down at the same time. A black screen came up with little writing in the top left hand corner. I was able to scroll with the volume button to something called "recovery". I pushed the top on/off button. That made a green animation of the phone come up with a black background on for a minute or so, then a red triangle. I plugged the phone in and waited a long time. The red triangle went away, the 4 G white screen came on for a long time, and then my home screen started coming up, and I have all my contacts and pictures, did not lose anything!!!!!!

Did yours ever come back on? I'm waiting with red triangle as well...

yeah not sure about that fix. i have never heard of a stock recovery working like that. stock recovery is not meant to be accessible to us. did you try to clear storage like i suggested to someone else earlier?

My Phone just reboots at random times as well. Sometimes I am streaming audio but that is not always the case. It has got stuck in the loop they refer to in the previous post but that is not all the time. I have taken it back and It was replaced once already. new phone and new battery. It has all the current updates as well. It isn't a conflict with a program since I only installed 2 or 3 since I got it back 2 weeks ago.

Does anyone have a better idea of what it? even factory reset and erasing the SD card completely did not fix it?

held volume down, did reboot, got to red triangle warning, pulled battery- put back and powered up normal and IT WORKS NOW!!! deleting all apps i don't really need? do any of you force quit the intrusive android apps like stock??

Thanks for your post. I'm having a similar problem and I followed the same steps you used in resolving it. But whenever it finishes clearing the storage, it restarts from the HTC logo and begin the clearing process all over again. After about 5 times of clearing and restarting, it goes back to the error symbol (red triangle & exclamation mark). Can you assist me with this issue? BTW, my phone is also not rooted.

My phone had same issues yesterday and I did exactly as suggested by Carolocity up to the point when the red triangle appeared on the screen. I plugged the phone to charge the battery while waiting for the red triangle warning to disappear and proceed to booting. Till this morning around 11am nothing happened, the red triangle was still on. So I removed the battery, waited few seconds, put the battery back and pushed the "on" button and it booted just fine. All data from contacts, sms, voicemails, call history is intact! I'm now backing up the data to my computer and SD card. I thank God as it is a miracle. I had called Sprint and HTC support, all had one option, to reset the phone and lose all the data. I was not ready to lose my data. I thank God for this forum as I was miserable with the idea of losing my data.

I'm glad I kept reading through this thread. It saved us a trip to Sprint on an already busy day. :)

go into settings/apps/and uncheck fastboot. you can also just pull the battery out and then press and hold power+vol down to get into hboot. any further questions on rooting i would post in the EVO 4G - All Things Root - Android Forums

my EVO 4G is caught in the same rebooting loop as others have mentioned. i have read tons of things here about quirky mysterious fixes... the phone is only a couple months old. since my phone is not rooted, the recovery mode should not be for me, understandable ...but thru the recovery mode i got a green circular arrow screen that no one is mentioning and not the red triangle of death. is this something different or am i just delaying an eventual fail?

also... when/if i do wipe everything back to factory settings.
will this effect my SD card or should it be out at the time?
will my htc sync bring most everything back?

Welcome to the forums!!!!! :D

Usually you get the green circle and arrow when the phone is updating something.

No, you can leave your SD card in the phone if you do a factory reset, that won't wipe the card.

I really don't have a lot of experience with the htc sync, I never used it.

Question is, what was the phone doing when you started having issues?
Were you running an update that failed?

Any info you can provide will help us troubleshoot your issue. :)

@granite1:
i wasnt performing any task at the time. just had it pulled in. i did notice over the past couple of days that the phone had been resetting more than usual. these smartphones sometimes have their own agendas.

nevertheless, i quit fighting it. cleared storage. back up and running. lost about everything. contacts did sync back up <whew> not sure if it was the something i backed up on my SD card or what. a few of my better apps were easily restored (Gtask & shopriant) ...everything else gone. prob didnt need half that stuff anyway but these two and my contacts were clutch. its all good. bet i streamline a bit this time around.

Yesterday, i plugged my phone in when the battery was at one percent. After a hour of charging i went to go check on it and it was still at one percent. I tried to tell my friends of facebook to get a hold of me on skype cause my phone was pretty much dead but before i could reply to any of them my phone shut off and went to the charging animation. After it said it was done charging, i turned it back on and it showed the Sprint company sign with crickets chirping which was odd cause my phone was set to vibrate and it usually just vibrates. After it was done with that page, it went to the android animation screen and kept repeating. I waited for a long time and it never went to my home screen. I had to take the battery out and try it again and the problem still occurred. It wont get past the android animation screen. Someone please help me!

My phone starting doing the same thing that has been mentioned here. I had just ended a call and it shut itself off and then started rebooting. It will not go past the 4G screen, it just keeps cycling between the Sprint and 4G screens.

ok guys, well you can try a hard reset. so power off (or pull the battery) the press and hold power+vol down. this will get you to the bootloader. there should be a clear storage option, select that. now be aware that this will erase any data that is on your phone. this will not erase your sd card.

I had the same problem 2 times the first time I was able to take the battery out and let the phone cool down and and it worked fine for about 2 weeks. Recently it happened again yesterday and nothing would work. I read if you hold the top button and the volume button at the same time then choose restore. I did that and it brought it back to a date in August. It restored, and updated the system softwear and all seems to be working fine for now. I hope it contimues to work........
