just made a nandroid, going to flash MikG v2.6 for the first time, and thought to myself, what if i wipe cache and dalvik before i backup... what would that do to my nandroid... anything... nothing... totally mess it up... pro's and con's??? "discuss among'st yourselves".... anyhow, i wiped before the nandroid, (got plenty to go to if need be)... i'll see what happens if i've got to use it...

I woud think it would do nothing because when you wipe both for a problem and reboot it rebuilds them just like if you change out the sd card with nothing on it (not partitioned with apps) the rom will re do the nessary folders when you boot. Just my opinion havent tried it tho.

I do this everytime I make a nandroid. I've never had a problem. I thought i had read somewhere that it reduces the size of your nandroids because there's no cache for it to back up. Not sure if it's true, and i've never really bothered to check.

I thought i read that too, and that Caulkins wipe thing was to facilitate that.

I never have used it or done that, but I think I read that too.

I have done this before I've had successful and unsuccessful results. I normally run a nandroid restore before I move on to a new ROM to make sure everything went well with the nandroid. If all is good I wipe everything and start the process of flashing my new ROM. However I cannot really say it was me wiping the Cache/Dalvic that caused my issues or if it was something else entirely different.

well, just restored the nandroid that i made after wiping cache and dalvik and it restored just fine... like i said before, it may or may not make a difference... so, all in all, it could be just a waste of time... who knows...

Normally I don't bother with it. When I go to replace the ROM I wipe everything then. I think its still a good thing to know just for those times we have the miss firing going on in our brains. :D

If it restores fine the only thing that i can see is the backup would be smaller but i dont think my much. Ive never looked to see what size the dalvik and casche are.

remember guys dalvik cache and cache are just a place for temp file to get stored in. it reallyplays no part in how the nandroid backups are made or restored. yes the nandroid backup will back them up as well but it is not needed. dalvik cache and cache will just get build up again as you reboot after restoring the nandroid backup anyways. so really there should be no effect other then a longer boot time.
