Help Hero Maintenance Release

The Sprint Administrator who posted this today also posted update announcements for the Evo and Moment - no word if those updates have come through yet.

From Sprint:

You may not yet have the update for a couple of reasons:

- The software update may not yet be loaded to the servers
- The software update may be released in batches or stages where not all phones will receive it at the same time.

If you are not seeing the update, please be patient and it should be available soon.

This was added to the original post @ Sprint

This update may be released in stages; if you do not see the update on your phone immediately, please be patient.

Mine won't update passed 1.5, does that mean I won't see it at all? I'm not worried about it. I hear 2.1 isn't very good anyway. ;)

Correct, the update is for 2.1 only

@jenn8112, yours won't show the 2.1 update b/c it's not an OTA update. You have to do it via the computer.

My phone is not showing the maintenance update either... guess I'll check in a few days.

So, all it fixes is the diailer lag? How about fixing the keyboard lag or the lag for text messages loading up when you go into that app? I know that the dialer lag was a major issue for many Sprint HTC Hero owners, but it never affected me that much. The keyboard lag was much more irksome in my situation, though I have gotten used to it and taken steps to minimize it, so it is not a huge problem anymore. :)

I am sure the update will eventually just pop up on its own. I still get the pop up for the last maintenance release that updates it to the .6 build. ;)

Which means you may not get the new release if you don't update the .6, you never know with Sprint, LOL

Ahh I see. I haven't heard good stuff about 2.1 so I'd like to know if someone actually gets this update if it makes 2.1 better than 1.5. Thanks!

Many have this update, but it is riddle with many issues, but has many new features versus 1.5, so it is a call you will have to make, there are many things you can do to make it more reliable, you can read this thread 2.1 Problems - Issues - Quirks (

Will this kill rooting?

I am pretty sure it will. Though there are methods out there right now that enable you to root even if you are running the current .6 build of Android 2.1, such as the Universal One-Click. :)

I would almost be surprised if Sprint and HTC did NOT take the opportunity to make this new update kill a root. They are sneaky. ;)

They are slowly rolling it from what I hear. You may see it automatically pop up and ask you to install it over the next week or so.

I actually do not know the exact timing for its release. I would think it would be pretty soon though.

Just a heads up to you HERO Users, the EVO has just got the new Update, so I supose the HERO's update will follow shortly. Im waiting to install the update on my wife's HERO.

I am assuming that the EVO's update is not related to the Hero update, meaning the call lag

It was OTA. I just did mine. Lag is gone, at least for now. I will check what else changed and report it here. Our phones are not rooted.
