Root Herp a derp!! Pay no attention!

Status
Not open for further replies.
i used this program and everything worked fine, phone seems to running ok, but when i run android commander or any other root mnging tool, it always says no root or im not allowed to access, i can view the index... but not the files.

can anybody help.

unlock your screen and watch for superuser to pop up and ask for permission when you run your apps.

Even though you have root, you still have to allow access on a case by case basis. that way some rouge app doesn't trash your filesystem without you saying it's ok first

Root worked great now i have superuser privileges!! but it did start to vibrate over n over and didnt stop so i pulled the battery!! but it worked.. I tried so many times with the old one it wasnt funny it would not work.. this one did!!!!!!!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

I appreciate your help but the root.bat is saying that the device is not found. I connected the phone via usb. the pc says that it found the galaxy device. Is there anything that maybe i missed. Cheers

I got the same error as jstelluto
I'm on mac...Trying to root Galaxy Note
Any thanks, till is the first script that reboot my phone...at least.

Here is what I am getting when trying to use download link...

502. That’s an error.

The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.

Please try again in 30 seconds. That’s all we know.

Edit: Now have been able to download...

try using a root utility meant for your device. This is the Sub-Forum for the Galaxy Prevail, not the Note

Hey. I just tried rooting my phone and after waiting an hour with the Samsung logo on screen and a pattern of vibrations (2 short 1 longer) i did a battery pull and came up with an unrooted phone.

I'm happy I didn't brick it, but I'm wondering what's going on too.

Tried again and this came up.
Code:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *

Now i'm about ten minutes into the second root and I'm getting a different pattern of repeating vibrations (3 short followed by a medium length at different time intervals) Idk what to do.

Dude, i tried so many times to root my phone with all the different one click root links idk i've tried like three different ones. One i downloaded had KMS file that i downloaded then an edited KMS file, and then finally i downloaded this one i think and it worked great, failed the first time then had to manually boot the phone then i randomly hit the enter key when the samsung logo popped up and tada!! after its rooted it'll vibrate constantly pull the battery and turn it on, download the root checker from android market, then green means good to go lol.

Hello... First I want to thank everyone involved in putting this root tool together.

Second, I'm REALLY new to all of this. I've read a dozen different articles and tried to educate myself as much as possible before trying BUT...

I can't get my Prevail to root. I'm using a MacBook. Here's the message I get

Root for the Samsung Prevail

I've opened Activity Monitor and looked for a process called ABD.exe but do not see one.

Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks and happy New Year!

rooting does not make the bloatware go away, it does however allow you to remove the bloatware.

check if you have root, there are a few root checkers on android market.

If you do then you need a file manager that allows root access then look for the list of safe apps to remove and remove the bloat.

hello, i new to this site and new to rooting but i had the exact same issue with my phone when i tried to root it earlier today, anyway i was just wondering if you ever fixed it and what did you have to do? thank you

TB(titanium backup) is how you get rid of the apps go to a specific app long press and you can un-install/remove be sure to find the list of what you can remove if you remove the wrong things you can brick your phone.

Alright, So I did what the tutorial said. Now my phone is rebooting, and has been for the past few minutes. Vibrating every few seconds. Is this normal?

pull the battery and then replace it then start the phone it will start normally, and if you did everything correct you will be rooted

My goal was to remove Layar and other bloatware applications that used up my internal memory. My phone is running Gingerbread.

Here is a synopsis of my install. I tried several times using the linux procedure but it just would not work. So I tried Windows 7 and and got error messages that the phone wasn't connected. The issue was I didn't have the Samsung USB drivers that connect the phone to the computer. So here is what worked:

...

1. With the phone disconnected from the computer, download and install Samsung drivers on your computer (Sorry can't post links as a new member)

2. Using the Android market place download and install Titanium Backup on your phone. Free version is good enough for removing applications.

3. Download and extract into a new folder the latest version of OCR. (Sorry can't repost link.) See beginning of this thread for link.

4. Enable USB debugging on the phone via settings > applications > development

5. Unmount and remove the SD card in your phone using Settings > Storage > Unmount SD card.

6. Connect the phone to your computer using a USB cable. The Samsung software will install automatically on your phone when the cable is connected.

7. From the folder where I placed the extracted version of OCR, I then doubled clicked on the "Root .bat" file icon. A pop-up window appeared. I followed the prompts. The phone cut on and off and on a couple of times, then locked on the Samsung splash screen and started vib-o-rating. (While all of this was going on, the dialog box on the computer changed from yellow to red.) After 15 minutes of vib-o-ration, I cut my phone off using the button on top of the phone, then restarted the phone.

The phone restarted ok, maybe a little slower than normal. I reinstalled the SD card. I started the Titanium Backup app. Using the excellent instructions on the Titanium Backup wiki, I successfully backed everything up, then removed Layar etc. Phone works great.

I suspect my issues with Linux were issues with communication between the computer and the phone. I have not attempted to retry the procedure using Linux.

Thanks to all, especially Shabbyfied and Titanium Backup, for all of your efforts.

Hope this helps but realize you are responsible if you brick your phone using these instructions. Good luck.

Well i have read all of this info and thought "WOW i am going to try this" then after downloading the file i read the "READ ME" then i remembered that i have this computer my friend gave me and it has the LINUX system on it! and them directions for this system have me lost? He never explained the command line thing to me? LOL!

Do you have windows.available? All you have to do is run the .bat file super simple...
