From my experience (I also asked for help in this thread), you need to run "sudo Linux-Mac.sh". If you don't know how to use the command line, ask your friend for help.

Well i figured out how to use the command line. It took awhile to get the "sudo Linux-Mac.sh" to run right or maybe it didnt? It took right off lookin like it was gonna work! I was so darn proud of myself! LOL! Then "BANG"! It stopped and my phone just sat there vibrating away?? I had to pull the battery out to get it to stop! Then i turned it on and had NO root? But at least i didnt mess it up! Started lookin threw these posts and found a few others who didnt have much luck with Linux. Or maybe its an Ubuntu thing? But i did learn how to use the command line thing! Maybe i will try again later when i get bored? So THANK YOU all for the computer lesson!

if you would like to check out team viewer I could help you with that.
team viewer is remote operating software before you decide check it out, its benefits and its limitations.

This is what happened for me at first. I was told to remove the SD card and run it with sudo, and it worked. It would probably help if you post the text output in the command window here.

i've been looking into rooting my samsung galaxy prevail 2.3.5 over the last few days. finally got down to trying to download items and what not.....and i have a few hardcore noob questions and i'll apologize upfront for being from the dark ages :P

1. do all phones need to have the USB drivers DL'd? mine is just over a month old..got it around thanksgiving, so do i need to DL the drivers.

2. i'm on a MAC and not familiar with it at all. when i click on the link posted on the first page on the first link for the "one-click" i get a blank screen. is this something with the LINK or something with MACs and dl'ing content?

3. do you have to do this through your computer? can i not just download files directly to my phone and skip connecting the phone to the computer and what not?

ugh...any help is appreciated :)

in windows you always need drivers, but I think mac the drivers are built in.
This root exploit has to be done via computer there is no app for it.

I had my wife's Replenish rooted but she accepted the update to 2.3.6 GINGERBREAD.EK18
This doesn't appear to work with 2.3.6. Any Ideas?

Wait for someone smart enough to make root that works with the update lol. Or revert back to stock (if that is an option for this phone yet)

and when i do the root, after its done and my phone re boots, it never completely rebooted all the way, it just did this vibrating shit and i had to manually shut it off and turn it back on..... is that normal?

Dude, i tried so many times to root my phone with all the different one click root links idk i've tried like three different ones. One i downloaded had KMS file that i downloaded then an edited KMS file, and then finally i downloaded this one i think and it worked great, failed the first time then had to manually boot the phone then i randomly hit the enter key when the samsung logo popped up and tada!! after its rooted it'll vibrate constantly pull the battery and turn it on, download the root checker from android market, then green means good to go lol.
my phone did the same thing with the vibrating shit, but when i downloaded root checker it says its not rooted? whats up? how can i know for sure?

so i've been on exploit (part2 of 3) for like 15mins. the phone restarted....is buzzing and has the samsung logo on the screen.....anyone know if this is the time to pull the battery and restart? i'm thinking the program hasn't been able to run all the way but then i read posts where ppl say are saying once their phone starts the weird vibrating over and over they pull the battery and it's good to go......sooooo anyone have any suggestions.

and i've read here and there that my sd card should be unmounted or sometimes this helps wondering if anyone has had a similar problem on macs or know what i may be doing wrong.

so i managed to get a lil farther along but still struggling with this root process... here's what i'm getting

***i've noticed this same error a couple diff ppl have posted by i don't see where anyone has reposted with an answer......i've checked for the adb.exe file and if it was running and saw nothing....has anyone figured this one out yet??

probably a stupid question but, you did extract all the files to the same directory, correct?

I'm another mac user that can't seem to get my phone to be rooted and I'm also running gb this is where i get stuck at i do the chmod stuff and then run it with the sudo command . Now I'm at this point: Root for the Samsung Prevail

and it will stay here as long as i let it then when i decide to take the battery out i get this

so im assuming if you all found a way to get it to wait until the phone reboots or the point just before then the problem would be fixed.

as far as i know yes i did put them all in the same directory...but i'm totally new to being a mac user. after DL the link provided i just had to click on the zip file and it's unzipped....i'd assume(maybe that's my problem) that all the files would stay in the same directory.

...maybe when i'm less frustrated i'll look at this again. been messing with this for over a week now. i know most of my issues are due to be a novice mac user but ugh...SO PAINFUL!! lol

I looked through this whole thread and couldn't find anything that would help. A couple of things that seem like they might be the problem is when I plug in my phone the disk drive that shows up in windows as removable drive is a cd and I am unable to dbl click to open it. Also this line from above about permissions "cannot create /data/local.prop: permission denied". Seems like my phone isn't connecting correctly.

I am using winxp, have installed the samsung usb drivers, phone is in debugging mode and have 2.3.6 gingerbread ek18. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
