Hey Motorola PR....Let's Go!!!!

Does Motorola have a PR department? After the announcement of the Xoom at CES, nothing....it's like watching and waiting for paint to dry. Apple is dropping stuff left and right about their Ipad 2 ( see Engadget, etc). Is it because Motorola is new to the game? Apple is a master at manipulating rumors and getting the masses hungry for a product. Yeah, I know the Mobil World Congress is coming ( 14-17 Feb) but Motorola has to step up their game and start releasing tidbits about when and how we will be able to get the Xoom.

Well, they DID release that nice teaser video several weeks before CES that got a lot of attention. I think Moto PR knows what they're doing.

I'm convinced that nobody knows how to do decent advertising anymore besides apple. I was watching the playoff game today and there was an iPad commercial. The only android commercial I've seen recently is an LG optimus commercial, and that thing sucks. In my opinion, most companies are just conceding mindshare to apple due to complacency. And it kinda makes me mad, because there are some good products out there.

Must be frustrating for Motorola, since iPhone will steal the thunder from Bionic and if Moto is not careful, iPad 2 will do the same for Xoom.

I am not an Apple fan, but it is what it is. Sadly.

Why will ihone steal the thunder from bionic?

Because besides people like us, noone even paid attention to CES and the Bionic's announcement. On the flipside, when the iPhone 5 is announced, you won't be able to walk five steps without someone mentioning it. When they watch their evening tv shows, there will be a preview of the news with a smarmy news anchor saying "Big news today as Apple announced the new iPhone 5. Find out more at 11." They'll announce its new dual-core processor as though Steve Jobs himself forged it in the fires of mount doom using his stockpiles of angels' blood. They'll probably even erroneously announce it as the market's first dual-core smart phone, even though the Bionic, Atrix and other phones will have beat it to market by months. And they'll even make note of its "retina" display like it's something special. It's a high res screen along the same lines as every other high end android phone, they just went with overkill so they can run their commercials that say "this is the highest resolution screen on a smartphone ever."

In summation, even though the iPhone 5 will be a catchup product for the amazing tech previewed at CES, it will undoubtedly steal the Bionic's thunder, and the thunder of everyone else. The iPad 2 will have the same impact because it will likely include cameras, as though Steve himself installed a unicorn's eye in every iPad. It's just part of the media's love affair with all things apple. I hate to see it happen, bu it's inevitable.

I could seriously use some Motorola Xoom commercials during the NFL playoffs etc.
Wouldn't bother me a bit...
You know what wretched song I get in my head every now and then???
That horrific piano'd song in the ipad commercial...
Its NOT due to the fact that I secretly want an ipad. In reality, I'd rather throw up and eat my own vomit rather than titling it "Revolutionary" let alone to even consider the possibility of wanting one...
I have the friggin' song in my head because Apple spends Spends SPENDS!!!!
Spends truckloads on "MARKETING"

Motorola needs to air commercials for the Xoom. And I'm talking literally all the time until I have the same problem...
Only this time I wont turn green and want to bash my television! LoL!
I would actually watch tv, and hope to see some Android Moto Xoom commercials again and again.
@ Moto, go hungry and hard, cuz you've got some steep competition in the marketing scheme of things. Spend Spend SPEND!

Moto, you have nothing to worry about with me,
I'm ready for some permanent Xoom one on one.

I think you'll get the marketing eventually. Verizon markets the hell out of Android. I would expect the same here with the XOOM. <When> that will start is another question ...

Somewhere before someone hinted at a superbolw comercial. That would put it at Feb 6. That is a week before Mobile World Conference and three weeks before the rumored end of Feb release.

Sounds about right for Motorola's past launches and for the audience they will be looking for.

Well, I'd be amazed if we didn't see Xoom commercials during the AFC/NFC championships or Superbowl for severals reasons:

1. The person who originally posted the Verizon-branded Xoom pictures, said that that would begin their big push.

2. Verizon/Moto/NFL have a huge relationship.

3. Ocho Cinco tweeted that he would be starting off the year with a Motorola tablet, which would lead everyone to believe they are going to reboot the OCNN (Ocho Cinco News Network), which is how they launched the Motorola Devour.

Call me crazy, but I like that Android isn't shoved down my throat 24/7/365 like the iPhone/iPad is. I'm glad that Android isn't a "status symbol" to Mini Van driving soccer moms across the Country. Those that know what a good device is will flock to Android. Those that want to fit in will buy the iPhone/iPad. I think it's great and I applaud Android for taking down Apple WITHOUT showing us a commercial every 3 minutes, or a billboard every other block, or an ad in every magazine we pick up.

I don't know .. I loved the "Droid Does" Verizon campaign, even with every 3 minute commercials.

There may be an element of "status symbol", or "fitting in" as you note to the iPad/iPhone users, but there is more to it than that. IMO they are simply VERY GOOD DEVICES, that are easy to use, have a great UI that most people don't need to "learn" at all and that give many people who have never used smart phones (or tablets) before access to great things in a enjoyable , straight-forward UI. Some of the iOS folks may need to "fit in" as well, but I suspect most of them just feel it's the best device / OS for them. Nothing wrong with that..

iOS isn't for me, or for many here I suspect. But that doesn't mean it isn't a great UI for the masses or that Apple doesn't make great products. I wouldn't mind some more counter-marketing soon from VZ, and I think we will see some in the coming weeks ..

The problem with PR for the Xoom is the same as was for the Incredible. Everyone was up in arms that for the first 3 months the thing was out, RARELY did you see a commercial for it. The reason why? They couldn't keep them on the shelf. Display shortages kept them from marketing them. I think Motorola won't have to advertise much for the Xoom, they will stay out of stock without spending the $$$ for promotion.

Yeah, but if memory serves me correctly, they advertised the hell out of the Incredible prior to launch.

I'm surprised they aren't going the same route with the Xoom. Then again, I'm just antsy, and maybe they will for the entire month of February.

I'm looking forward to some cool Xoom Droid Does commercials.
Motorola should have a commercial where several Alien spacecrafts enter the Earth's atmosphere, invading and floating over cities. Then all mother ships open up and beam down Xooms.
Yeah...idea is kinda out there, but I think that the idea kinda fits in with the SCIFI-ish Droid commercials we've seen in the past.
Not only are the Droid commercials appealing and great, the products in the Droid commercials are even better! ;)

It's funny that the only PR for the Xoom since CES has been Ochocinco's Twitter account:

That's funny. I wonder if we will hear anything else before MWC. Probably not, but that doesn't mean that I will stop google searching it a couple of times a day...

This is an excerpt from an article by Tim Gideon, dated Jan 20, 2011. He is a writer for PC Mag that reviews tablets, etc.

"The Motorola Xoom, I have no doubt, will not be vaporous forever

"The Motorola Xoom, I have no doubt, will not be vaporous forever—but why do we know about it before it's ready? Why have I held it? An announcement of a product without the actual functioning, ready-to-use product seems premature; a long delay on a promised-and-hyped operating system update seems fishy.
I have been to enough CES press conferences to know not to hold my breath for a product's arrival—many appear only in press releases. But I hold Google (and manufacturers like Motorola and Samsung that get first cracks—with Google's assistance—at making new Android devices) to a higher set of expectations than a start-up. So why are billion-dollar operations fumbling product launches like rookies? The Xoom is not ready. Honeycomb appears not to be ready yet. Motorola's tablet may not be ready before the iPad 2—or whatever Apple chooses to name it.
I review tablets for PCMag, and it's my job to be impartial. I am excited to play with a Honeycomb tablet because the demo looked like a fantastic experience. But the increasing delays for Android devices—be it no 2.2 update for the Galaxy S phones or a non-functional demo unit being displayed at the world's biggest electronics show—is starting to give me pause. "

I love how the title of the article is Are Android Tablets Vapor? Or Just Not Here? Just what the Apple COO called them on their called yesterday. :) I'm sure this is an impartial take :-)

Reading it, it sounds a bit like a scatterbrained blog to me. "fumbling product launches like rookies." ? What exactly has been fumbled at this point. No release date has every been stated (we've heard Feb, 1st quarter), but no official statements. This writer sounds a bit lost to me ... I have little doubt this will be out in Q1.

You know, its a shame Oprah is such a huge fan of the iPad. Considering she's hawking the Cliq2 for Moto her audience would flock to the Xoom if she promoted it on her show. Although that may be just the user base we're trying to avoid here.

Annnnnnnnnd comence the bashing of me for bring Oprah into the fold.

Bash!

I still don't get the all the hub bub about the ipad.
I was never excited, nor did I ever think it was ever "revolutionary"

The Xoom isn't even in stores yet and I have a totally different feeling towards it.
Oh wait....thats the feeling of Android....
Not a toy,
A machine.
A real tablet with real internal hardware guts!
I think the Xoom is gunna sell pretty well.
I don't think its going to have to have a whole lot of advertising for it to be a success.
At least not the kind where a company has to over do it like *pple does with the *pad.
