Root Homeless Kernel 1.0

weird, it shouldnt lol

ok how bout this, the parts we play with will be zvb on all except 2 ROM atm lol

theres other stuff we never touch flashing roms. Have to play with them by other means ;)

Is it possible that this could be showing up incorrect in my settings?

Hey Kanaida. Awesome work on the Kernel. It is really saving a lot of juice and i get monstrous amount of time with this kernel nd extended battery:D.

The only problem is that my phone got laggy after a day of using it. Specially the dialer. It takes lot of time to open and then when i hit 'end call' it takes a lot of time to end the call:(. Also when i wake up the phone after long time then everything gets so slow and it takes time for the phone to fully get to a pace on working. Dont knw why it happening or if anyone else has a similar issue but with plague kernel the phone was not that laggy. Can something be done about it??
Thanks

I was having the same issue so I went ahead and removed the optimizer app and that has make a difference i am running gingeresteem extreme maybe the optimizer works best with the other rom like kanaida said but just like you i noticed the lagging I don't have set cpu running but memory booster seems to help too the phone is no longer lagging for now at least.

This is where my wifes is with this kernel and gingeresteem rom, no optimizer.

4g on for 9 hours wifi the rest but light use overall.

Wow everytime I see this I fell like crying lol I only got 13 hours yesterday I have made changes and all but my problem is the rom I bet I will change to gingeresteem and see how it goes I even have an extended baterry calibrated and all so I guess it might be either the rom or my baterry.

I'm testing this new 3500mAh battery and so far it doesn't seem to last as long, but I will let it fully discharge and change in one go to condition it. If it doesn't work I'll post the brand as a ripoff battery. I think this may account for some differences. No one really benchmarks battery types after all so they may be going unchecked and trying to pull tricks.

Which makes me wonder I will use my regular batterry if I am able to squeeeze all those hours out of a regular batterry I might just keep the extended battery as a backup.

The following is NOT a screenshot of our phone, but it does illustrate the point i'm trying to make, note how much system_server uses compared to our phone, and how much Cell Standby Uses (This should display most of the power should be used roughly when not in use). This is how i'm trying to get our usage to look, where actual user activity is what drains the battery, not LG Engineers in hamster wheels.

What I interpret when I see my own battery screen with system_server that high in our phones is that about 50-70% of the battery wasn't used by me, but it can be if I fix it.

Im going to reiterate This is NOT the Esteem but it is a phone with similar specs, 4.3 screen and all.

This is the evo 4g and this is under very light use, a few games and some wifi googling.

As you can see the android system and dun server are not using large chunks of battery

I think it would help if there were a standard in all this testing... say, perhaps with the stock battery for instance. That way, we'd have a control (stock batt) as a baseline (and new-comers to the Esteem would know what to expect without thinking they have to go out and buy a bigger battery to achieve these results)

Just my 2 cents. lol

Exactly :) is that the stock ROM and is it 4G? Perhaps we can try that APK in a Frankenstein experiment.

We do. Light/normal use, Stock 1500mAh :
Stock ROM = 7ish hrs
Any new rom, stock batt = 10-12 hrs
GingerSteem1.0 + homeless =14-17
The last one + optimizer = 24ish hrs

Thank you for clearing that up sir. lol
Most n00bs don't have the patience to read through 4 or more pages to try and understand the bottom line of the results.
Hats off to you for this kernel, and all the testers as well. ;)
The Esteem really needed it... my battery hog has needed to go on a diet from day one. lol

Will post my results soon as well...

Thanks again Kanaida!

Man..going to have revisit your Optimizer app K...my theory has also been the less apps running the better to conserve battery life. But seeing #'s like above is peaking my curiosity for sure!!
I will fully charge up my extended bat install it again and see what happens...without your kernel though(I like speed;)

Hey that evo 4g, can you upload the DUN Apk from it? HTC seems like they have excellent android developers. Maybe they already fixed the issue for us :)

yes, I will, Some one may need to do a little creative engineering on it to make it work correctly.:D

As to your earlier questions this is running a version cm7 with a custom kernel. The kernel has a different charging system, which the esteem needs.

It basically charges the battery fully when you pull it off the charger when it says 100% it doesnt drop to 98% or lower in minutes.:D

ok I could not find the dun server.apk so I just link the entire rom you can look it over any thing you find interesting and helpful that way.

the rom

the kernel

Hmm... I looked at a rom and there is no DunServer.apk so maybe it was renamed or merged with something. I might have to dig into the source code. Java here I come lol... Good thing c# is similar so I can probably make small edits.

dood i cannot wait for an update on this... as soon as this kernel has most bugs fixed it is going to be my OFFICIAL kernel lol, any hope of the home button working on the homeless? lol

Your home button doesnt work? What rom are you running? I flashed this over GSE 1.5 and have had zero issues to speak of.

I mentioned this on the evo thread but I believe dun server is incorporated into bluetooth.apk
I think you could remove dun server from the esteem but you would have no bluetooth file sharing, maybe not connections though im not sure.

I have this over the gingersteem v1.0 and the home button works

Thanks bro. I think I just found something ridiculous again LOL :D.
In settings/applications/development. There is a keep awake when plugged in to usb setting. I usually leave it on so pandora stays on in the car but pandora has a built in option for that. Anyways, thats our drain, and the events make sense now.

lol I think it goes like this: It keeps wasting cpu by keeping the phone awake checking if it should keep it awake because usb is charging it.

I turned it off and suddenly my cheap extended battery gave 11hrs on much less battery and the stats look right in the battery screen. I have a funny feeling *everyone* turned this on right before rooting.
