Root Homeless Kernel 1.0

so does that mean if you flash this on top of a pre-installed kernel, all the features will work properly?

because when using this as base kernel for rom i had had some bugs and 'home button' DID NOT work

yeah bro i have no prblems and home button work for me :D

It's in Google maps under settings somewhere, I think when you click the latitude layer. I usually stop the maps service on reboots as it really kills battery without doing anything meaningful, this is why I suspected latitude.

Got my results for this 3600mAh battery, 1d 11h. I expected 12+ more hours out of it so they must have lied about capacity. This is more like 2000mAh. I will post a photo of the battery. It's made in China, has a red stripe on the top, yellow on bottom. Got it from amazon.com for $13

im srry i noe this is a stupid question bt how can i flash this kernel nd it wld w
give me more batt life with the stock rom? im usin extreme 2. im srry t im a noob in need of help

dood... its been 11 hours, about 4 of those hours i was streaming live radio, another hour i was doin heavy web browsing and about an hour long phone call with the old lady (and some other short calls/txts throughout the day) my battery is now at 30%

that is eFFin Amazing!!!! thanks bro!!

I wanna use this soooo bad.... BUT, I like overclocking! I feel real cool with setpcu lol, i tell my friends "yea man, yea my phone is faster than yours man.......... PLUS its overclocked man " :p

just do it bro u still can use setcpu max out 1024 still runs smooth and a battery saver its a must have kernal:D

I want to use this kernel plus the plague, but when I flash the homeless it seems to override the plague kernel and I can't over clock. Is there anyway I can use both at the same time or no?

no... 1 kernel at a time.

I'm kind of having a hard time grasping what the difference between this and pg's first oc kernel if it were set to 1024 with the powersaver setting. I'm not trying to be rude, just curious to what exactly is the difference.

On a side note I would love my battery to last as long as some of the posters however I just can't give up over clocking. I use it too much through out the day to not be able to use it. If only this could be set through something like setcpu as a preset but that would be almost impossible :)

Now if he would share his tricks I could combine his n mine. ;)

Just what I was thinking ;) I added deadline io scheduler, set as default, set the deepest sleep mode for different hardware bits to deep sleep where it made sense, I re enabled native linux power management instead of relying solely on bullshit wake_lock additions android added. I also added interactive governor as a test but it wouldn't stick. To be honest I'm not sure why yours eats up more than stock at the so keep mhz, something to look into.

Homeless Plague 1.0 LOL

I'll post my make configuration file later tonight. Most stuff is changing small values, not injecting new code.

Homeless plague lol

HA...LOL
Sorry I cant resist

Hey guys, made a kernel to fill the other side of the coin. Thanks to PG for the help on packing it up and stuff :D

It's meant to go with my LG Esteem Optimizer, although it can be used alone as well.

It's focus is battery life cause 8 hours is just a wee bit too short for me, and since the gingersteem rom is pretty speedy, adding this kernel just helps it out so it's about 12 hours of normal use. At the moment it doesn't have overclocking or anything fancy.

The homeless kernel is meant to be thrifty, but can still run fast enough from stray dogs in dark alleys lol ;)

Homeless Kernel v1.0
MIRROR 1

-Built from LG Source
-Currently being tweaked to find best stuff, i'll post new versions as I find stuff.

Sorry I had to use mediafire to post it, ugh. But for some reason I couldn't upload the attachment here.

Hey there! Got a couple questions for ya! Was this built off of ZVC source or ZVB, and do you have this posted on Github? Thanks!

It's built from ZVB Source, and just thinking about github gives me headaches lol. I have an account, just have no idea how any of that stuff really works, and tutorials on youtube start at 10 minutes for something that's supposed to be basically a copy of a local folder haha... seems excessive. If you can tell me in a few lines or less i'll throw it in a repository somehow ;) but honestly, since PG's got his all set up nice and cozy i'd rather just share my findings to let him update and merge into his since he's been obviously doing this for a while, there's endless amounts of source in there.

I think an official logo is in order :D

That is classic--better choice than my pic above;)
Looking forward to the collaboration gentlemen:cool:

I've been wondering how this kernal has been comparing to other kernals, roms, and setups.

Kanaida seems to be most happy with GingerSteem 1.0 + homeless kernal + LG Esteem Optimizer.

Has anyone been able to compare this setup with and without Juice Defender? Juice Defender has helped me out greatly with battery life on other roms (mainly by turning off data when screen is off or when certain apps are open such as games). Kanaida argues that an app running is going to use up resources, but having 4G/data off saves a lot as well. Or does this kernel+app save so much battery that an app like Juice Defender is unnecessary? I'll put up my findings, but everyone's usage is different so I'd like to compare that data. Even if informal, please describe your experiences.

Also, I wanted to compare the performance and battery life of apps and games of GS 1.0 + homeless + LG E Optimizer @ 1GHz vs GSE with a 1.7-2.0GHz overclock. Again, I'll follow up with my findings but encourage others to do as well.

Kanaida, do you plan on adding on the ability to overclock with this kernal? There seems to be some people who desire the ability to overclock.

me personally dont use juice defender I use 2x battery im running gse lkd-lck v1.4 with kanaida homeless kernal and lg optimizer and im really satisfy on how im saving battery life

I had a GitHub account so I just tried creating my first repo. Hopefully I'm doing it right lol... anyways it's pushing the current build up there right now. 10% Done. I probably had way too much extra stuff besides the kernel but it was convenient so it's going up :D

https://github.com/kanaida/LG-Esteem-Homeless-Kernel
to bad it doesnt have all the commits of the changes you've done. lol

I've started trying to start off by pushing the stock src, then create a new branch for my mods. That way any changes made are commited (once you've pushed) and kinda works as a guide for yourself later on or others looking to do the same thing. ;)

kanaida, you're lg optimizer is AWESOME. way better than any juice defender. between it and setcpu i can get at least 24+ hours out of my phone with the extended battery... (now that's with it in my pocket, responding to txts, phone calls, answering emails, looking up wikipedia entries, occasionally and with the screen off most of the time, [setcpu's screen-off governor].

but i did something (installed a new kernel, installed a new rom, and it seems that the optimizer is competing with things like setcpu, a patcher, and avast, all of which require start-up root priveleges.

optimizer starts first, denied (even when i set SU to give permission to everything automatically), avast, setCPU, and said patcher get SU priveleges directly after LGoptimizer is denied. any ideas why this is happening? basically its so consistent, i have to go in and manually start lg optimizer every time i restart....which is really annoying when i'm trying to figure out the limits of OC'ing my processor. --another reason i'm interested in your homeless kernel. may try it out right now....however, lg optimizer and OC kernel 2.0 take this phone WAY beyond anything i would have thought this phone capable of. THANKS to all of you working on this stuff. i'm truly impressed!

basically, i'm using this phone to its maximum capacity, and while i'm interested in the homeless kernel, i have over extended the capabilities of this phone (THANKS to you guys, if i revert back to the homeless kernel, is my roided out esteem monster going to crash like a house of cards? i paint w Sketchbook pro, and screencast video record my drawings... impossible on the stock rom/kernel

ps move this post if it belongs elsewhere, and sorry for the inconvenience.
