Does anybody know if I can set-up my Ally as a wifi hotspot for my notebook? I know the phone does pretty much everything but I would like to connect that way. Thanks!
Almost correct.Yes it can. The easiest and least dangerous is to download z4root then Barnacle wifi tether.
Almost correct.
The best wifi app is Wireless Tether.

To find it read the second post in this thread below.

Both (z4root and Barnacle) require zero config to get up and running. Wireless Tether requires an alternate kernel.Keep in mind OP that using z4root you are going to be rooting your phone. That is the only way to acomplish hotspot (wirelee tether) on 2.1
I prolly should have mentioned that in my reply, along with the "You void your warranty" disclaimer

What makes Wireless Tether so much better than Barnacle or any other Tether option available on Ally? Will it work on the latest stock ROM like other tethering Apps do?
I haven't had any issues with barnacle yet though I don't use it that much because I don't want any issues with Verizon. Has anyone here ever ran into any problems with Verizon after tethering their Ally with 3rd party apps? I know the standard "use at your own risk" line but any real world negative experiences anyone?
