Root how do i get the most out of cm7

After fruitless efforts to get some juice out of my phone with sense roms I finally decided to switch over and try out AOSP. I've heard AOSP roms deliver better performance + battery... I must be doing something wrong :/

since CM seemed to me like THE AOSP rom, i decided to give it a go. I'm on cm 7.0.3 nightly 81. I decided to jump right to a custom aosp kernel and so I went with savaged zen cfs 2.2.0.

It's been a couple of days and I keep switching the governors to make the phone stop being choppy. I'll switch to performance, get good performance but then it'll get choppy later so i'll try smartass, then i tried conservative to see how that one works, ondemand, the savaged zen governor... they all seem to get choppy eventually as well as drain exorbitant amounts of battery. There is an "interactiveX" governor that doesn't stick, whenever I try to use it it switches back to "interactive". I've been checking spare parts and OS monitor to rule out foul play.

What kernel/governor can anyone recommend with CM7 for me to take advantage of it being an AOSP rom. As it is right now I see little to no advantage being on AOSP over a Sense rom. I was running stock turbo before this and my battery was comparably dismal at 12 hrs a charge. I know quadrant scores aren't something to live by but people always boast about their quadrant scores on AOSP roms and I'm getting only like 1000-1100 even on the performance governor. I'm not so much looking to improve the score and find out why my phone consistently performs worse in everything than everyone else's evo no matter what I do to it.

edit: Where I notice the choppiness the most is typing texts. It's frustratingly laggy. My app drawer will smoothly fly in and out, I have launcher pro's 3d screen transition with no issue. I try to type a text and it doesn't register half of my keystrokes. :(
 
have you tried the tiamat kernel? my setup is in my sig. i'm using the smartass govenor and overclocked 1190. i am getting at least 19-25hrs off charge with no problem. but of course kernels are picky and they never work the same on every phone. but i would give it a try.

thanks for the suggestion. I will give Tiamat a try for the next couple days

Looks like you're using an SBC kernel. Isn't that cheating? ;)

Those still scare me. I'm about ready to give Tiamat a try though.

And if you run into choppiness or the phone becomes extremely slow, boot to recovery and wipe cache and Dalvik cache. This should help always;)
 
Without a doubt, Tiamat is the way to go; I'm getting - roughly - 25+ hours off of one charge with CPU at 998 (with light usage) & 20+ hours at 1.1 Ghz (with light usage as well).
 
sbc IS kinda cheating, but it helps more than it hinders. I was also paranoid about ising it(from the battery-will-explode reports) but it hasnt happened so far, and replacement batterys(if you get lithium ion plating) are $15 on ebay for new ones... id giver it a shot :)
 
and yet the debate goes on. i have as yet hear a phone exploding because of a sbc kernel. yes it does wear out the battery faster then normal, but like doofus said they are cheap and easy to come by. meanwhile my battery life has been through the roof. I'm loving me some tiamat SBC kernel. it is awesome!!!!
 
i'm worried about battery life on the short term before battery life on the long term. I'd rather replace the battery every few months than have it last less than 12 hrs a day. anyone who uses this kernel care to comment on their battery life with respect to screen-on time?

i'm currently down to 38%, 12 hours off the charger and 1 hr 1min of screen on time. every time i turn on the screen to do anything i drop a few percent. this seems like it might be OK and i still need to give it a day or two to maximize its potential (as is my impression any time you flash a new rom/kernel combo)

edit: that being said i am still plagued by the fact that any time i turn the screen on i lose a few percent no matter what
 
well, chemically, it can cause ion plating just from the physical aspect of how the "overcharging" but i dunno tho, ive yet to hear about the sbc kernels blowing up a battery either, hence why i took the plunge, and ive been reaping the benefits of Superior Battery Charging :)

I'd be more concerned about physical damage to the phone itself rather than an admittedly inexpensive battery replacement. Reading the SBC explanation linked above right now though and will make a decision then.

I've decided to go with one of the Tiamats today and plan to flash it after lunch. Just undecided on which one at this point. Stock CM7 battery life is just abysmal on my Evo.

the only physical damage the sbc kernel can do is when the battery explodes. but as long as sbc kernels have been out, i have yet to hear anybody say anything about exploding phones. i have only seen great things from sbc kernels and will continue to use them.
