Help How do I get the new update

Just tried it on my gf phone, but still no update available. It did seem to make her 4G work better though. Might just be a coincidence.

I guess this process brings up one of my original questions. As this process gives us access to the recovery menu, then that menu has the option 'install file from external storage' (or similar). I dont understand why we cant manually instal the OTA update. If we had the file, isnt that exactly what HTC is doing? Just running the update automatically instead of manually?

I'm confused.

I'm with you. We should be able to go to their site and download the update. I just don't see how it has to be pushed in waves still? I'm beginning to think the update push got shutoff somehow from the source and they just don't know about it yet.

I found the file - its linked in the 'Update' thread. Unfortunately, the phone wont alow me to browse from Recovery to the file to install it. It reboots on attempting to do so.

Quite frustrating. :p

If you truly have it, it would need to be on the root of your sd card

only way to manually install the update is to have S-Off. While S-Off the factory recovery will allow you to install the OTA zip file

Thats what confuses me. If the OTA update is downloaded to your phone, how does HTC install it if we cant and we are in actual possession of the phone?

You'd think it would be easy for us. :)

when you download the actual OTA is first stores on your SD card but when you accept the update it gets moved to the cache folder. Once in the cache folder it will automatically install. Problem is you can not access the cache folder unless rooted.

Interesting. So if I root my phone, I can move the update to the cache folder, reboot and it should install?

I rooted the phone previously (unrooted it to get the update) and it was fairly simple. I stayed S-ON as I felt no need to go S-OFF. If I can install the update with just root access, that would be something I could live with.

give it a try. root, move ota to cache folder, reboot into bootloader, load recovery, update from cache

Haa!!!! It worked.

.....

EDIT:

No it DIDNT! I saw the update go to 1.14 in settings, installed Harmonia and it reverted to 1.13!!!

How can that be?

What's it saying under the radio? As long as it says that you have baseband version 1.09.00.0706 then you do have the update applied. The rest was just some minor framework updates that would be overwritten by the rom unless the dev included them. I'm s-offed and applied the update manually so my version number doesn't reflect it but the updated radio does.

Thanks OB but it says 1.06.00.0426.

I was so excited (sad I know) as when I booted into the stock rom after applying the update it stated my version was 1.14. I installed Harmonia and its back to 1.13.

The update appeared to run just fine!

I wonder if my issue could be related to the fact that the update is sat at the root of my SD card. I just moved it to 'cache' but in recovery I dont see an option to browse any place other than the SD card. How would I browse to cache?
Thanks!

Unfortunately without root you can only browse your sd card and not anything on the phone itself, also the update definitely didn't flash because flashing a rom would not have affected your radio.

I now have root but recovery only lets me browse the SD Card. Without root trying to install a zip rebooted the phone. In recovery I also se a msg:

bad boot message "TIME" (or similar).

Thanks for your help so far.

UPDATE:

Got tired of waiting and did the S-OFF trick. Hardest part was finding the wire to suit :)

Thank you all so much. Im now S-OFF and running the update (baseband 1.09) :)

How is it so far?

I have no complaints. Before the update my signal was fine but sometimes I would go to make a call and have no dial tone even with signal bars. Im guessing it will fix that issue. Phone has been just fine since going S-OFF using Harmonia (great ROM!).

I know I sound like a convert but I should have gone S-OFF months ago. It went great and easy to do. I had argued against it but if HTC/VM are going to be so slow with rolling updates, Id rather rely on the community for my updates (if there are any more).

A big part of the puzzle that was missing for me was that you dont manually run the update zip file to perform the update, you place it in the root of your SD and it has to be of a certain name. After doing that, I rebooted, the bootloader automatically found the file and asked did I want to update and that was that. Runs great.

Its shocking going back to a slick ROM to realize just how bloated the VM ROM is. :)

I want it :-(

If you mean the update, you will need S-OFF but that took me all of 20 mins when I finally jumped into it.

If you mean the ROM, are you rooted? If so, its a relatively painless exercise to install the ROM. The devs have done all the hard work. You just download the Harmonia ROM, boot into recovery and install. I use 4ext to ease the making of backups of different ROMs. It allows me to try all flavors of ROMs and Im able to switch between favorite ROMs in minutes. I love it ;)
