Root How do you get your computer to recognize your device???

I finally bricked my phone trying to flash Tranquility... yay!

I have RSDlite 4.8 on my computer, but I can't get my phone to show up on my computer at all. I turn it off, plug it in then fire it up... nothing. I turn it on, then plug it in... nothing. I plug it in, then pull the battery, then put it back in, hold down the power and home button until it boots into recovery... nothing. I unplug it, pull the battery, put it back in and boot into recovery, then plug it in... nothing.

I don't see how I'm supposed to unbrick this thing if I can't get my computer to recognize it. Oh, and yes I did install the motorola drivers... again. Or have they changed since the .340 update? I have the drivers from when I got the phone. I installed them way back then, and then again just before trying do this sbf, but nothing is helping.

Any idea's?

Edit : the drivers are 4.6.5

**** MAKE SURE YOU ARE FULLY CHARGED ****
1. Start up Bootloader:
While phone is OFF, hold down "power+volume_down+camera" for 3 seconds.

2. Plug phone into USB.

3. Open RSDlite

4. Load up the proper sbf for your situation.

5. Flash the SBF

Cool, I'm downloading them now. Hopefully that's the key I'm missing.

Also, I can't get into my custom recovery at all. Is that normal? All I can do is get to where there are 4 options. Reboot, flash the update zip, format data and format cache.

Wish I could get into my custom recovery.

Well what's the difference between clockwork and recovery? Which one is the screen with the 4 options? I thought that was recovery.

You can. Plug your phone in, turn it on, pull the battery, replace the battery. Bam, clockwork.

Tried this, no luck. Turn the phone on, and the Tranquility logo comes up. Pulled the battery, it disappeared. Put it back in, the Tranquility logo came right back up. No clockwork. :(

Ok maybe I should give a little background. I don't know why I didn't double check before I performed this flash, but I didn't. I looked up Tranquility yesterday, and for some odd reason I had it in my head that when I read the instructions for flashing it said to format data, system and cache. I know I saw that SOMEWHERE, because I remember thinking that was odd, that I'd never seen those instructions on any other ROM.

So anyhow, I was driving around and decided to flash Tranquility to see what it was all about. So I made my nandroid, then opened Bootstrapper and got into clockwork. From there I tabbed down to 'Mounts and Storage' and formatted the system, the data and the cache. Then I flashed the Tranquility zip just like I have every other ROM. It did it's thing and showed it had flashed successfully. Rebooted the phone and it hung on the Tranquility logo for 30 minutes. I pulled the battery and tried to boot it up again with no luck.

Been stuck there every since. All I can do is get into that screen with the four choices.

Ok, I got into the bootloader (that's the first time I've ever done that one before), but it say's my battery is low, unable to program... ****!!! I thought this battery was full (it's my spare) but evidentally not. That's great.

So my next question... does the phone charge the battery when it's in this condition? It didn't look like it was getting any sort of charge when I plugged it in, but I have no real way of knowing.

Did you mount the system after you formatted it before applying Tranq? If you didn't you are going to have to sbf and start again.

I don't think it charges when it's in this state. However I have heard here you can probably borrow one from a VZW store. Good luck bro.

BTW Doesn't Tranq install from the TBH app now? It's been so long I can't recall. Maybe I am just thinking of the Fission Rom Mgr.

Well that's not good news. I was hoping it was charging, because when I first plugged it in (I had it in bootloader) to my car charger it said 'battery too low, can not program'. Then about 10 minutes later that message disappeared and it said 'program method, USB'... so I had hoped that meant it was charging. I planned on leaving it on there for at least 2 hours since I wanted to make sure it had a rather hefty charge on it before trying to sbf (this is my extended battery, not the stocker).

Would that message have disappeared on it's own if it wasn't charging?

I didn't think I had unmounted it. When you format from mounts and storage does that unmount the system?

I think if you take out the battery and plug your dx into the wall charger it will boot up with a ! screen, if you then put in the battery it will charge.

note: I THINK but do not KNOW.

And yes sbf'ing takes time and the dx will not trickle charge will its being written. (less chance of smurfing up a memory register)

Good Luck, might need a spare phone or something.

Well it looks like that was correct, it doesn't charge. I took it off the charger, brought it in to hook up to the computer and it said 'battery too low to program'... and now it's completely dead! Does anyone know of anyway at all to charge them without an external charger?

Looks as though I'm dead in the water until tomorrow when I can get down to a Verizon store and get a new battery. Do the cradles have a spare battery charger? I see one online, but I'm not sure if that's the main one that they carry down at the Verizon store or not.

Ok I'll try this. I won't hold it against you if you're wrong, I appreciate any and all advice!

So did that work?

I used RSD Lite 4.8, but I am on win XP currently. When I switch out to Win 7 don't know what I will do.

Well my 1st sbf experience is finally behind me.... NOT FUN!!!

The worst part about it for me was the fact that I don't have internet without my phone, so figuring out how to do this really got frustrating. I thought I had everything I needed on my computer to do the job, but my 1st problem was that I'd never actually booted into the bootloader before, only into recovery. So I was in recovery thinking thats where I was supposed to be, and nothing was working.

So I had to run to my buddies house to use his internet to ask questions. Next I found out that neither battery was charged enough to do the sbf. Took FOREVER to find a charger to charger the battery externally (Radio Shack). Then the last hurdle was that I didn't have the latest Moto drivers installed on my computer (I had 4.6.0).

Needless to say I don't look forward to ever doing that again. But, I am at least more confident in my abilities to get my phone out of bootloop now.... I guess thats at least a little plus.
