Coming from a Dare, this phone is awesome. I just wish my accessories would arrive sooner and the battery would last a little longer.

I came from the Dare, to the Eris, now the X. You are gonna love Android. It just keeps getting better and better since I got my Eris in January.

Do a search here for battery tips, there are a few threads under various phones. All are basically the same. Keep GPS, WiFi use down. Updating widgets use 3G and thus the battery. Set sync for apps and email to longer duration... Tweek a few things and this phone will last all day.

Got it with the carbon fiber case and the two-piece holster as well as the Body Glove holster case. Carbon fiber's sweet and the phone is solid. I'm going to need a real app for Gmail as this one is pretty poorly equipped, but otherwise I'm jazzed with everything: the speed, the screen, the quality of the overall experience -- much much MUCH better than any Blackberry I've ever used. I'm just hoping I can upgrade the gmail application (read receipts, mark all read) because that's the main function I need beyond phone calls and the biggest drop in functionality from the Tour and prior Blackberry devices.

Overall really amazing. Voice quality's awesome and the three-mic solution (apparently) is a winning strategy.

BTW, I never thought I'd be so happy to have WiFi access, but the phone sees my network and -- once I install the proper drivers on the desktop (Win 7 64) I can install stuff without connecting wires...unreal.

Really solid device, really solid setup, and overall as close to perfect a phone as I've tried.

This is my first Android phone (coming from iPhone and Windows Mobile before that). So I'm sure the standard Android learning curve is making adjusting to the Droid X even harder me.

I really wish the Samsung Fascinate was out within the 30 day trial of the Droid X. I saw the Samsung Vibrant at the T-Mobile store and love the screen's colors and slightly narrower form factor.

But, since my highest priority is to leave AT&T/iPhone's dropped/failed calls ASAP and the Droid X is the newest bling phone on Verizon right now, I'm finding the Droid X is good enough (probably will be more than good enough by the time I get used to it and by the time Android 2.2 comes out). The thought of returning the Droid X and going back to AT&T for two to three months to wait for the next decent phone is a lot more than I can stomach.

As for the Droid X at face value, I already I know I can live with this phone for the next 10 months and more. I can always crank up the screen brightness to max (like they do at the phone stores) to make it look nicer, and download apps to try to make the UI work for me... The thing I'll miss from the iPhone is a bunch of games I tend to play; hopefully they will be ported to Android soon.

I rated it a 4

Overall i love the phone i just....it wasn't as WOW! when i got it but it is a lot better than most phones i have had and i just want to give it a little more time

My only real complaints are the location of the power/sleep button and the USB port. I'm use to the power button in the upper right corner instead of in the middle, and this one seems to be hard to press sometimes. The USB location is awkward when trying to use the phone in landscape while plugged in, but I realize it's there for use with docks... I'm sure it's something I'll get use to, but just a little annoying right now.

Other than than, I'm slowly learning Android...

I also rated it as a 4/5. It is a fantastic phone, but I reserve 5/5 for smartphones that really have no flaws. In terms of phone functions, quality, and reception... it is a 5/5.

The phone would be great IF it synced directly with Outlook and IF the battery lasted all day while I am gone. The battery is 90% gone by 5 p.m. and that is with me using less than 10 minutes of talk time and maybe only 20 minutes of Internet time. The rest of the time it was in it's holster because I was busy working! So much for having a reliable phone if you are gone ALL day!

I lost HOURS of sleep trying to find a way to directly sync the phone with my Outlook on my Windows 7, 64 bit computer (as promised by 2 different Verizon sales persons) but can't find a way to do it without forking over more money for a 3rd party!!!

If they would just fix these two things the phone would be great.

I rated it a 4 and liked it overall but returned it on the last day of my 15 day return window at Walmart (I paid retail). In the end I went with the Vibrant. I don't particularly care for the "Iphonish" looks but overall it works better for me than the X.

It's a solid 4 for me. It gets dinged a point for having a skin (Blur) instead of stock Android. The locked bootloader is annoying but that's really minor. I've owned probably 9 smartphones this year and the X is hands down the best one I've one thus far.

Still a solid 4 after two weeks. I am officially an owner, I just canceled AT&T and put my iPhone up on eBay.

I love the screen, the browser, the widgets, and the battery life. I hate the fact that to make the most of the battery I have to remember to enable/disable GPS, WIFI, etc. I wish apps would manage those things for me a little better.

Oh, and I *love* the camera! The GPS-assisted panorama mode is super fun.

After having a Nokia E71 (great little phone!) and a Nokia 5800 XM (HORRIBLE cheap plasticky thing), the DX is amazing. I love the huge screen, it's thinner than the 5800 XM, and I have it in the shell/holster combo, which is really nice. I thought it'd be much bulkier, but it feels rugged enough, and the clip is pretty low-profile.

It's a little disconcerting that I only get 1-2 bars of signal, when I'm used to 4 on AT&T here in my town in CT. But the calls seem fine, and the internet is blazing fast compared to the Nokias....but this has a MUCH faster processor.

I didn't much care for the screens that came with it, so I read some reviews and installed LauncherPro, which I like very much. Apple fans told me that their touchscreens are so much better, but I have an iPod touch, which I still love, and the DX seems to be just as slick. I'm loving this phone! Not to mention being able to have an unlimited data plan, so I can use my SlingPlayer to my heart's content wherever I am. Getting Froyo and Angry Birds on this, and I'll probably rank it as high as I can! :p

Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about the number of bars...let's not get into all that again, lol! This topic has been beat to death in the press recently enough. :)

Your best bet would be to look at your bars and then goto Settings -> About phone -> Status and look at "Signal strength". If you ignore the minus/negative sign, then the lower number, the better (i.e., -81 is better than -91). See how this correlates with phone calls to see how good your calls are. Also, most phones dial-down the power to the radio when not in use to save battery, so you might try looking at the number of bars when a phone call is actually taking place...it'll might be higher then.

Cheers!

This is my first Android and it is a blast! I have used Blackberries for the past 4 years (the last one was Storm 2) and there is no comparison. The only minor issue with mine is the speaker volume. I use the DX for an alarm clock and I have to max the volume out just to hear it.

I have found lots of useful and fun apps on the Android market (could not say the same for Blackberry World App market).
