How Green are you?

I've had solar panels since 2009. My annual electric bill is about $80. I have almost no insulation in the vaulted ceilings, and the house has a lot of glass, four sliding glass doors and large windows. I use AC 24/7 from July- Oct.

I recycle, have big engine cars but rarely drive. I take light rail as much as I can to work and to go downtown to party on weekends.

Nice! How much did you spend on those babies?

I've always wanted to do something like that... for survival purposes. Perhaps I think too much, but I don't like depending on people/things for my survival. I like to be self sufficient. Depending on electricco. for my power isn't doing that.

Around 14k. They'll pay for themselves in 6.3 years.

Not too bad. I remember seeing this tv show where the owner went green. Spent $100k+ and was told that he'd paid off the rest of the mortgage before the green investment paid themselves back.

I use the LIRR (NYC commuter rail) and NYC subway to get to work daily. We recycle plastics and glass in my house, but otherwise I don't really care. We also own a small V4 2006 Scion xA that's pretty decent on gas.

It seems like the general consensus is a logical, "I do what is economical, but don't go out of my way". I recycle when I think about it, I have added insulation to my house, since there was a tax credit to reduce the cost, in addition to the energy savings. I have a home automation system to control temperature based on the time of day, for efficiency without affecting comfort too much. I drive a small car, and carpool to work, because gas is too expensive. But I also consider myself a skeptic and realist on global warming. I don't think it is happening, but even if it was, I don't think what is being proposed will help anyways.
