Root How to disable that damn system write protection

This process worked flawlessly for me. I'm on stock metro ROM 4.4.4 with the butterkat kernel. I removed all the metro bloatware. Flashed back with restore and everything's working great.

Would I be safe if removed some of the Google apps as well? Specifically, books, music, newstand, and drive? I don't use any of these, and I'd like to delete them as well.

Also, thanks for your genius Masterchief87. The lack of r/w access to system was really bugging me. Until I found your method, that is.

Yes...just stay away from the system apps.

First things first, if you are going to buy a zmax and want to root it don't buy it unless the build number ends with either B06 or B22

They fixed the exploit that kingroot used to gain root for the zmax.

Metropcs has b22 zte zmax they are grabbing up out of theyre warehouse for me for tomorrow. 45$ now just to confirm B01 and B22 are Kingrootable and has a TWRP or CWM recovery to flash? Thanks in advance.

I know b06 and b22 will work. As for b01 it might work but I don't know. If you want to find out just go digging through the 3000+ posts in the general discussion thread on XDA
Look for posts dated May 14th and later.

STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW

You can't edit system files while booted in android without flashing the switcher zip(then reboot recovery), and once you have flashed the switcher zip you can't mount system in TWRP without then flashing the restore zip(then reboot recovery). This means that you can't make or restore backups, or flash ROMs or any zip that modifies system files without first flashing the restore zip and rebooting recovery. Also, you should not try to factory reset or do any other wiping while TWRP is switched out.

If you could have full capabilities both in android and in TWRP at the same time these zips would be pointless.

Don't freak out when TWRP tells you "No OS Installed!" Twrp will tell you this when it has been switched to the boot partition because it can't mount system. Because it can't mount system, it thinks that the system partition is blank when in reality everything is still there.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

There are two zips for each ROM. The switcher & restore zips come in pairs and were meant to be used together. They are both of equal importance.

Download the switcher and restore zips for the ROM you are using and check the md5 for both files AFTER you put them in the location where you want them.

This paragraph confuses the heck out of me. I have root with Kingroot, and I installed Twrp, but when I press reboot to recovery nothing happens. Have I done some thing wrong? I just want to delete the bloatware programs. What is the easiest way to do this? Thanks in advance. This is only the second phone I am rooting. I rooted the f6 but that was because someone had a 1 click method.

So I played around, and I now have full root. And I removed Kingroot. Can someone please give me easy instructions to be able to delete the metro apps. Thank you all.

So I have had root and then I lose it. I don't understand about using the switcher and restore downloads. Can anyone please help me. I was going great and then I turned off my phone, and lost root.

After reading the WHOLE first 2 posts of this thread which part are you having trouble with?
