How to dramatically improve your camera (picture and video) quality

Klaymen, thanks for your hint to the depth.

The depth is my worry, too. How I see is the mineral glass is 0.2-0.3mm thicker than the original lens cover.

I have to measure the exact thickness of material on the back cover.
The router was my first idea in the morning ... :)

Just thought I'd add my own experience here if it's any interest to anyone. I tend to treat my Desire really carefully and although it does have a case with the lens recessed it still picks up tiny scratches. I just rub it down with toothpaste every once in a while.

Here's my resuts:

Remove scratches on Desire lens

.

My own experience , when I first got the desire.. was good .. but was just not good enough for a 400 pound phone.
This got gradually worse ... until this post !!!!!!!!....

I push the bit of plastic out...

Now the pic is stunning !!!!!... will I get another cover , probably in time.. but for now enjoying the wonderful pics my phone takes !

Looks like a good item. What was your cost including shipping?
I was also at that site; too bad I didn't find this as it would have spared me the sanding.

That's the only catch really, they didn't disclose the shipping cost during the ordering process (i hate that). I decided it couldn't be that much and risked it, turned up next day in a box and the day after i got the invoice for

Vry good and affordable alternative :)
Well, correct me if I'm wrong but the first is just an exact replacement which will get scratched up again. And the second is the interior lens cover which won't help a lot if the exterior one is knackered.

Still think the Sapphire Glass window was the best thing I could've treated my phone to, it's just about indestructible.

Guys, I'm having problem removing the plastic from the lens. The lens is very sensitive, so I'm a bit scared not to damage the lens while removing it.

Any Ideas?

Don't touch the lens! The plastic people are removing is the plastic on the back-cover. So, take that off first, THEN remove the plastic. That part is easy.

Just a quick update to let you know I popped out my plastic cover a while back and didn't replace it with anything nor did I put a screen protector over the lens, primarily because I didn't have one available and also because I am convinced the lens itself already has a glass cover (see this earlier post - http://androidforums.com/1775545-post153.html )

It's been quite a few weeks now and my pictures are still crystal clear so worries about dust or scratches on the lens seem to be unfounded. I do take care of my phone but I'm also not precious about it so it gets thrown into my bag or shoved in my pocket etc. as and when appropriate.

I just got the latest and greatest and was so disappointed with the camera-blurry and horrible shots. THANK YOU WILLIAM. I took the cover off and found a small piece of blue film stuck to the inside of the lense. Removed it and am amazed at the clarity of my pictures and videos-AHHHH sigh of relief, thank you thank you;)

i was bored over the new year break and took off the back cover plasticy bit from the lens cover.

Pictures are superb now, close-ups are so much better (saves me getting a real camera for work stuff) and no issues to date with scratching the lens, will keep everyone updated but so far its been well worth it

Just a question for those brave (foolhardy?) sould who have popped the plastic lens cover off the battery cover but not yet replaced it with glass (i.e have left a hole int hie rbattery cover) - any issues with the actual lens embedded in the phone unit being damaged, degraded, or getting horiffically dirty yet?

Now been a month with no issues

Coolio! Presume you still have a gaping hole in your battery cover, though...?

Anyone else? All good?
Yes, I'd like to know this as well. I keep my phone in my trouser pocket much of the time (with nothing else in the same pocket), and am worried that dust, fluff, and other debris will collect in the phone if I remove the lens cover. Can anyone reassure me that this will not be an issue?

Received a sapphire lens from Edmund last week but haven't had a chance to swap it out -- too busy. I'm actually considering taking it to my watchmaker to see if he has any ideas about permanently affixing it. Otherwise I will go the epoxy route like rwleigh did.

I just used a very small amount of devcon 5 minute epoxy.

This stuff.

Works great.

I've had the protector removed for nearly 5 months and like you, keep it in my pocket sans anything else. It does pick up a little dust every now and then, so I clean it with the same dust remover I use for my 5D MkII. (The small amount it picks up is negligible.)

No scratches and still giving me crisp, clean images. :D

Thanks, Archphoto. I've taken the plunge and popped out my lens cover (it came out in three pieces, so no going back now!).

A before and after test photo show that it has been a worthwhile exercise already, with the "after" shot appearing so much crisper.
