Root How to install ICARUS 1.1 by Isaacj87

It was worth a shot at least. I would rather ask and him have it already than assume that he does have it and he doesn't. I just went back to their site and still can't find it again.

I have the file on 2 different computers and my thumb drive but thanks though. I just couldn't remember (or find) the link to be able to paste it.

The dialer "button" disappeared from my launcher. The one all the way on the left next to the contact "button". Is there a setting I'm missing, or should I reinstall the launcher? If so, how would I go about doing that?

****Disregard. I just clicked and held the empty space and then chose the dialer icon from the selection menu that popped up. But, after changing to a custom icon for the main menu in the middle, I can't seem to change it back to the default icon from "launcher pro". It's not showing up as an option.

What launcher are you using? Stock or LauncherPro? Since you are running Icarus 1.1 I'm going to assume that you are using LauncherPro, if not....Sorry, maybee this will help someone else and also, just post what you are using and we can go from there.

On LauncherPro (I am not 100% sure if you need to have 'Plus', the paid version??, Since I've been using it so long and really like it, I decided to cough up the 3 bucks)....so if this dosn't work, you may need to have it but I doubt it, I think plus only gives the extra widgets, etc.

OK: 1. Long hold on the location where the phone was
2. Option will come up Change shortcut, Change Icon, Swipe gesture action
3. Click Change Icon - and pick the Phone (or whatever you want the icon to be)
4. Long hold on the Icon: Change shortcut, then find and select the dialer application

There you go. I never messed with it with Canvas(the default launcher), so not sure, but I can check if this does you no good.

Let me know how it turns out...I'm always curious how these things turn out...
Take care....Jeff

That does work, but eventually, it disappears again. And now, once in awhile, I'm getting the message that Launcherpro needs to force close, but I usually wait, and it will load, but the icon goes away again. Using Huawai Ascend, Icarus 1.1

Possible, try to fix the permissions. I think you can do it thru CWR "Fix Permissions" also Rom Manager has the option.

Good luck, that ususally fixes alot of force close problems..
Let me know.

Gotta say a bit confused, you said you found the folder? The Icarus 1.1 signed.zip should be in the main area of the SD, not in any "Folder", AFTER you say "install zip from" sd card. I'm not looking at the instructions so I may be a little off, but I think you then need to tell it your going to look on the SD card for it, at that point it will bring up the contents of the SD card, you just roll thru those until you see the Icarus file, and select it. Pick it, it will then take it from there and install it form there.

The only place that could have gone wrong, are you sure that you put the Icarus ROM on the SD car in the Main directory. I hate saying main folder, because alot of people around here assume there should be a folder named MAIN. Where they just mean, put it on the SD not in any folder or anything.

I would assume you put it on there by plugging in you phone to the USB.
Plug in the phone.
Give it a second
Start ---> Computer
You will see the phone and the storage space remaining
Just drag the Icarus MOD to that folder (right drag, COPY HERE)

From there it will be in the right place and ready to go.

GOOD LUCK
I HOPE IT WAS SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS THAT. Think of it this way, you could have had the problem later, like 1/2 way thru the flash, or during the reboot or something, and get yourself some real problems....so this isn't that bad, although I understand It has a habbit of makeing you crazy...

Good Luck...Jeff

Thanks Jeff but I found my problem I did everythinh except that I extracted the files from IcarusMOD.Signed.Zip onto my desktop and from there onto my sdcard so I thought for a bit and I just started over but I put the zipped file on my sdcard and it worked lol it was pretty and I really love icarus it looks cooker abd its faster too lol :) even if Froyo comes out I have a feeling ill still come back to Icarus haha btw im sorry I made everything sound so confusing but I was tired it was 4:32am lol but I really do appreciate the help :)

LOL....No you were totally understaning, I was just saying, "The more details the better" when trying to troubleshoot stuff.

Great to hear it running well, good luck with it. If you ever need any help or anything with a2sd or whatever, just let me know.

Download Android Terminal if you don't alread have it:
1. type: su (to get super user priv.)
2. type: a2sd check

then a ton of stuff will fly down the screen, go back, it's a little tough to read, but just read thru it and you will make sure that your apps to SD is working right.

BTW: When using "Terminal" I always hit menu and hit "font size" and change it to like 14 or something so I can read it.

Anyway, good to here it's all good and good luck in the future.
Take care, Jeff

Just downloaded 1.1 and noticed that my time is off. It's 11:44am here, yet my clock reads 3:44pm. I went to settings/Date&Time, but it wont allow me to change a thing. Help please!!!???!!!

Turn on airplane mode for a few minutes.

I've just noticed that my MMS is not sending pics. I'm recieving them but not able to send them does anybody have a clue to what could be causing this. It's not the WiFi issue either. I set the new APN like it says earlier in the thread and well the light is not green. I'm on MetroPCS. Please help!!!!

Hello, first post here. Thanks to everyone responsible for Icarus. I installed 1.0 with no phone operating system experience and it worked great first try. I really like it. I've read this whole thread and can't seem to find an answer to this question...Now that I have 1.0 do I have to start over and wipe everything in order to upgrade to 1.1? I'm wondering if there's a simpler set of "upgrade" instructions. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hey, Miketmcquinn & anyone else,

Same question here. Do I have to start over if I am running Icarus 1.0? Obviously I wouldn't have to reinstall CWM (2.158 or whatever version it is...) & ROM Manager, but otherwise, is there an "upgrade path" or just wipe & lay down the 1.1 ROM?

And if I do have to completely wipe the phone & SD card, since I have Ti Backup Pro, is there a guide or walk through on how to save and then recover my data/ settings safely?

Mercy buckets, ;)

Madd-
Reselect the new apn,
Back out of the menu by holding the back button,
Go back to the apn menu and see if the new apn is still selected,
If not reselect,
Do not back out,
Hold power button and turn off the phone.
It should stay selected on reboot.

It's still on the original Metro APN after reboot.
I'm going to run a backup then delete the original APN and see what happens.

OK I'm not going to do that because the original cannot be deleted.
So I'm going to try this again.

That's odd.

I am probably too late, but have you tried turning off your network connections (airplane mode is easiest) and reselecting the new apn before turning them back on?

Well no and after the second time it stayed on the new APN. Then I tried sending a pic and it went back to the original. Will try that now.

Did that and watched it switch back to the original after turning Plane mode off.

damn... it may take a couple days (busy recently) but i will find you a fix.
Dude I selected the Cricket APN and it stayed on it and it says my pic mms's were sent now. WEIRD!!

But I still have gotten no reply from the receiver.
Oh he's sleeping now. Now I gotta find somebody who is awake!

This is freaking hilarious!!!! I sent an mms to my email through the Cricket APN and it worked!!!!!! Hopefully it stays that way. Wonder if there's a way to use their 3g too. LOL

Thanks for your help Token!!!!!

This is my second tome attempting to install Icarus and my phone keeps showing the boot screen for more than 5 -20 minutes. Any answers?

Your in a boot loop. Now I know the worst thing they say to do is yank the battery on that 1st boot, since it's building the Dalvik, etc. But you don't have alot of choice.

I have 2 suggesstions, first have to say they are only what I've run across, and don't want to accept any responsibility to further problems, so that's my fine print....LOL

1. I personally didn't try this one, but I had that happen and after I got it fixed I ran across a post where the guy was getting into a boot loop every time he tried to install Icarus.

He CLAIMS he pulled the SD card, then booted, it clean booted, he powered down and then put the card back in and booted and it came up fine.
*NOTE: As I said, I HAVE NO PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THIS ONE, I only read it, and wished I had tried it BUT, like I said?? NO Personal experience. I wish I had the link for you, but that is really all it said.

2. NOW: WHAT I DID: I did install Icarus 1.1 the first time with NO ISSUES at all, went on perfectly. Then later I decided that the 256 partition size for a2sd I wanted bigger like 500 or 1G. So I took my card, put it in a linux computer, ran " gparted " This program allows you to resize partitions on the card WITHOUT erasing any data. That was successful, but when back in the phone, it started up but then android.system force closed, I hit ok, it restarted, boom force close again. Couldn't even get into CWM.....SO I was screwed...I Hit the good ole 3 buttons refreshed to stock and had to install Icarus again (SORRY for all that, just the background or incase you ever want to try a partition resize).

OK, I reinstalled Icarus 1.1, and got the bootloop....no getting out of it. Had to yank the battery, it was so close to being bricked, wow....I held down the 3 buttons (Vol UP, END, Power - THEN let the battery fall in - This way the Instant it gets power it boots to refresh to stock)...

OK, I did that 2x at least, then I realized, maybe the partitioning is causing problems.

SO - I went thru the entire process to install Icarus EXCEPT I did NOT partition the sd card at all, basically pretending I'm not ever going to use a2sd. Again, just TOTALLY SKIPPED the PARTITIONING STUFF.

Booted....Took a while (longer that the 1st time that was successful BUT DEF LESS THAN 10 MIN)...BOOM - CLEAN BOOT !!!!!

Once you get that 1st clean boot, things are alot more stable, because the Dalvik is rebuilt, etc.....

OK, Now I rebooted again, just to make sure all was cool. YES..clean boots, no problems.

NOW COMES THE a2sd -- I THEN powered off, hit the 3 volume/ANSWER CALL/POWER ---- to get into CW recover.....From there I went to the partition area and followed the "Instructions (modified at this point" Partitioned the SD, Made a 1/2 gig and 0 for swap as it says.

Rebooted and got a2sd going. I actually went to "Android Terminal"
1. Type: su (for super user privlidges)
2. Type: a2sd install (even though it's already on and this really isn't necessary, I figured it would kick start things a bit more, for one it forces to move the apps over to that partition)
3. After that type: a2sd check - Review what is said, you should be able to tell is all is cool.

So, that is what happened to me. Something with the partitions were locking it up.

That other guy pulling the card, getting a clean boot, then restarting w/ the card, kinda leads me to believe the same, since removing the card would cause it to ignore any partitions.....But again, I have not experience with that....so

I hope something here works out, or at least gets you moving in the right direction?

Good luck....And let me know what happens.....incase it happens to me again, I'd like to hear what you did?? Or if what I did helped? I just like getting the feedback from what you try......

I wish you the best of luck...IF you ever think your bricked. Holding down the buttons 1st then letting the battery drop in was what I found to be the most successful to get the stock ROM back on.

GOOD LUCK AND ALL MY BEST
Jeff

Spyders assumption is right. Sort of.
For some reason the os sometimes tries to boot from the SD card and you get bootloop.

Personally i would try what he did with the battery drop, and start over.
Sorry you are having trouble but don't worry, this phone is damn near un-brickable.

This happened to me when I installed yesterday. I let in run for about 20 min in the loop, pulled the SD and battery then rebooted. Everything came up perfectly, popped the SD back in, and no problems at all.
