Root How to load Zefie's custom kernels (for Dummies)

Unlock your bottom tool bar and drag it down...
I had the same problem.

Left click bottom toolbar, uncheck lock toolbar. Then use arrows that pop up as the pointer to drag it down.

Something drastic happened when I tried to restart my phone after I had the Odin freak out.
I pulled my battery and tried to restart, but on the samsung screen it had an icon of a phone and a computer with an exclamation sign in between. Phone would not start!

Went back into Odin and put the 8.3 back on the phone....
Started back up just fine....

Is there any way I could get someone that has uploaded the working system only kernel successfully to post the tar file or to send it to me, please?
It would seem that my computer has corrupted something or another.

****************nevermind, was not using extractor right, was corrupting the file******

Yep, I had tried rebooting my PC about half a dozen times. I had actually kind of given up on it for the night and dozed off in my recliner for awhile. When I woke up I thought "ahh, screw it I'll give it one more shot". Rebooted the PC, brought up download mode, and viola, I was running on the new kernel.

Maybe it was all the porn I was looking at... LOL

I've found that porn is the solution for most things!!

I finally got my system to see the phone in download mode... here's what I did.

1. attached my phone while it was on and in the normal Android OS mode
2. located my phone in device manager (under disk drives, I think)
3. went to properties (right click) for my phone, browsed to the driver tab, clicked "uninstall"
4. system prompted for a restart to complete removal. I unplugged my phone and allowed the system to restart
5. installed NEW Samsung PC Studio from a DL I found via Teh Googles (I had never used this in the past, previously I had browsed my phone's SD card via the drivers in that zip package that's floating around and on Zefie's FTP site)
6. booted my phone into download mode and plugged it into the computer. My PC immediately saw it and installed the correct drivers
7. Odin was able to correctly see my phone now, so proceeded as above.
8. upon reset of the phone after the new kernel, the PC also installed additional drivers for SD drive mode

Hopefully this helps someone else in this situation, there seemed to be a lot of us!

Oh, and after all that, I forget what should work better with the new kernel lol. Oh well, I'll figure it out, and probably uninstall some of the stock apps in the next day or two. Hooray!!

Well after uninstalling and reinstalling the Windows 7 drivers for this freaking phone for about an hour, I found your post and thought I would give it a try and go through the exact steps you did. I have to honestly say that I didn't have faith that this would fix it, but sure enough it did! Thanks for posting this!!!

welp, just thought I'd let ya'll know that I finally got this working on 64 bit Vista...turns out, its the most simple things that hinders one from moving forward. Talk about feeling like a F*&% genius when I realized I've been leaving PC studio running in the background...being a network engineer you'd think using basic trouble shooting skills I would have figured this out days ago...lol either way, just wanted to thank everyone that helped hold my hand throughout this debacle! Thumbs up to YOU! AND YOU! AND EXPECIALLY YOU!!! ;););)

Same here, if I didn't know what the button was I wouldn't have been able to use the program. Time to upgrade the Mini 10 to the HD lcd.

ok....is it just me or is zefie's file page not working...I need to update but i cant get to the files to do so....any ideas?

Last I saw this morning he had a new server being provisioned and he may be installing or transfering files and that may be causing the issues. Hang tight and try again a little later or tomorrow maybe.

well, i guess i can wait! lol. thanks for the heads up though. I have to say...the quality of this site is rather surprising. again thanks to all! and the extreme quick response!

PS. dont EVER knock my spelling...its my low point...hehe

up and running now with ZE09.1. For me I erased and uninstalled everything. Restarted the computer. Installed Studio. Connected phone in downloader mode. Recognized and installed drivers automatically. Opened up Odin, proceeded and hung up just like it did before. Peeved. Pulled the battery and put back into downloader mode. Then on a whim I opened Odin 4.03 instead of 3.98. Connected the phone and it flew into downloading and updating. Took less than a minute overall. Running 64win7. Now if I could talk all my coworkers into doing it. Don't think that's happening so hopefully they come out with the official MR soon.

so now I'm a little peeved (just in general). Ever since I started the debacle of getting this kernel update done, my calendar has decided to force close about every 20 minutes or so and sometimes while entering an appointment. Uninstalled anything related to the calendar and soft reset, but it got me nowhere. So I dowloaded Sprite backup (only 99 cents right now) and backed everything up. Backed up my SMS and then did a factory reset. Now I go to restore my apps and only the three purchased apps appear in my downloads. Trying to get everything back on there is going to be a major PITA while doing my daily thing. Why would only the purchased apps show up now? I've hard reset before the kernel update and had them all show up.

I know there's a program backup in the market somewhere. Have to find that now for future reference. Is there a backup for all the shortcuts and such one has put on their home screens? That would be an ultimate backup and restore. aPanda is running a little smoother with the kernel update so I'm going that route again, but it'd be nice to have the stock one backed up in a pinch too.

Trying to figure out the names of the programs to re download is going to be frustrating while on the go. Okay...vent over. Feel a little better.

sdx is down. does anyone know which file is the correct new cl14 that is safe to load on the phone? every forum has a link to sdx so i cant find it anywhere.

sdx isn't down for me (via computer)... but for some reason, it's not working via my phone... i think numus is looking into it.

Sprint's fault on the moment.. since they are the default dns search on the moment, they have to uncache the site (should happen tonight or tomorrow is my guess)...

still not showing up on my computer for some reason. showing maintenance mode and asking me to log in as an admin.
