Root How to load Zefie's custom kernels (for Dummies)

ah. i thought that was part of the rom. sorry. and last question. (sorry but i dont want to screw up) i load these just like i did the kernel, right?
 
yeah, i was able to get it going and load 8.3 then 9.2 today. but when i loaded cl14 it never got off the samsung logo. had to pull the battery.
 
ok, that wsa my mistake, the samsung logo replaced the android when the phone is rebooting, so i thought it got stuck, but actually it was just taking a couple extra minutes. thanks for all the help everyone.

So you just put the cl14 file in the 'one package' slot in Odin and flashed it the same as ZE9.2? Then after the reset you did the same with the modem? (keeping the OPS and all of those other options the exact same?)
 
Well, here's a bitch. I tried to Zef my phone for days. Would get to setup, then stall. I found out from the Zefster himself that you can't flash a phone if Firefox is open.:eek: Anyway, now that I know what to do, my Moment will not restart in download mode anymore????:confused: Ideas, anyone???

Mine did too. My guess is that part of the installation and or cleanup happens after the boot, and since CL14 is rather large compared to the others then it had lots to do during that time. Subsequent reboots are more or less normal.
 
ZE09.2 turned off the autostart of the dropbear ssh deamon, which is okay, but after running dropbear-ctl start I'm still not able to log in. It seems the password has changed. I thought that maybe Zefie wanted us to set our own password, but it appears that the passwd command is not installed. Any ideas how this is supposed to work?
 
now i'm trying to remove stuff and my computer cant find "adb shell" it just goes on and on. nothing i am doing is working easily for this.

It is stored in a settings file.. hell if i can remember where zefie told me he put it...

Yep, its unplugged, but I swear, 3 other people have tried to reboot it into download mode and it will NOT go! I guess it is all moot now since I read here today that Sprint has a new update for the phone. I'll go by and let them do there thing. (That's the "good" thing, where they do it right;)).
 
Someone should REALLY sticky this thread. I think we lost our guide... has anyone seen any management in the past few weeks?
