Root [How To] Root 2.3.4/downgrade and Get S-off

We can cross that bridge when and if we get there. Hopefully the Unrevoked 3.32 reflash tool will do the job. In that event, you don't even have to mess with Unrevoked Forever.

if the misc img hasnt been rewritten, then it would get the main version fail. i was thinking of suggesting this, but wanted to make sure we had exhausted all other possibilities before i suggested it,due to not wanting to add more confusion to an allready fustrated sweetb ;)
and if that works, when your phonr boots back up yull be on froyo and can finally continue with the last part of the guide to achieve s-off. i will be watching. :)

Hey Scotty & anyone that can help... I have to leave for a while... I tried the """Place the update.zip file into the root of your SD card. You can do this with adb with the command: adb push unrevoked-forever.zip /sdcard/update.zip"""
with no luck... :(
I'm not quite sure how to do this..."""The update can be installed like any custom .zip file. Simply flash it from your custom recovery. Both Amon_RA and Clockworkmod Recoveries support custom .zip installs from the sdcard."""
Although with the sd card "possible" issues I've already have... I'm not so sure it would anyway work???? I'll check back in a bit, when I'm home. Can't thank you all enough!

Again, unless Unrevoked 3.32 did not give you s-off, there is no more need for any adb commands or using the sd card in any way whatsoever. If you did indeed fail to get s-off using Unrevoked 3.32, let us know. But is see no indication that has happened yet.

So, go here:
unrevoked3 recovery reflash tool, v3.32

Download the tool to your PC desktop. Now hook up your phone to the PC via usb cable and while in charge only mode. Then run the Unrevoked tool from the PC desktop. It should recognize your plugged in phone and apply root and s-off.

If, and only if the tool does not apply s-off properly, then we can try other means to make that happen. The Unrevoked Forever zip is just a secondary method when all else fails. If the Unrevoked reflash tool works right, it's already built in and applies it for you so no extra steps are necessary.

Error: Failed...... Is your firmware too new?
I presumed I didn't have to do the custom recovery, browse to file step?
Tried custom & still same fail...

Ok so have you verified that the downgrade worked by going to menu > settings > about phone and it says android version 2.2 right? If so, perhaps try a reboot of the phone and then try to run the tool again.

Hey guys, I think I might have a similar problem as she might be having not sure. I have followed all the steps in the original post and have been able to downgrade my phone to 2.2 no problems. It's just when I try to do the last step and run the unrevoked recovery reflash tool 3.32 it doesn't allow me too and displays this message every time "Communications with phone unexpectedly interpreted. Try again." I have tried running it numerous times and doing every thing I could thing of; restarting it, running it with the custom recovery 5.0.2.0, and running it without any custom recovery although I thought I needed to run it with one. Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong or why it is giving me this message? Thanks.

Have you tried restarting the PC? And are you running unrevoked as an "administrator"?

I ended up finally getting it to work, not because I restarted the computer though. After I restarted it and ran unrevoked as administrator again it gave me the same error multiple times again. I then tried plugging my phone in first and clicking on run as administrator after and this gave me root access and s-off. I don't know why it worked that way and not when I had tried it by plugging the phone in after, but hope that might help someone if they have the same problem.

Multiupload seems to be dead. Would it be possible to re-post the two files from there? I've search this thread for updated links and didn't find any. I also didn't find the file anywhere else on the web.

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

any luck? run it twice in a row,if you havent yet. youre almost there! :)

Sorry I took so long to get back at cha'... Had a few things to do before I could chance loosing my only phone connection to the outside world. lol

Soooo... :D Yep... Doing the happy chicken dance... s-off :)

Any suggestions/opinions on best custom rom that either already is rid of bloatware or is easy to get rid of? Or should I ask/search for such in forums, to be proper & all? I have a bit, just don't find a lot of details anywhere about said roms & to make matters worse... Ya just never know, when people say droid incredible, if they truly mean 1 or 2. :)

hooray! its been a long and fustrating journey for you for sure ;)

as for roms,i personally prefer AOSP,so i try and run that wherever possible. cm7 works great on the inc,but if you prefer a stockish, sense rom,ill let the others make some suggestions for that,im pretty put of touch with inc roms :o

congrats again on the s off

Danke :D I will check out AOSP... See if I can figure out if it's good with incredible 1(One! lol)... But otherwise yea, cm7 seems the only other way I can figure is best to go... cm9 sounds a bit too risque for my taste, just yet. :D

And yes Please, I welcome anyone's input on what they prefer, Especially if known to work with incredible1(One!lol)

:o I see that AOSP is not a specific rom in itself... Though I get it... :)
So, even more so, suggestions welcome... :D

psssttt... Scotty :) or Anyone else that can help...
Point me to a "simpleton" way, knowing the issues I've had :o... to flash the cm7.2... Or is it same steps as the ruu? I've read around & some of the "how to's" are a bit confusing to me... Anyway, many thanks to any help...

flashing the roms is a bit outside the scope of this thread, there is lots of info on that if you search thru the forums. if you want to link a couple guides youve found,we can comment on them in those threads, and if you start a new post in the forum, youll get lots of good advice from knowledgeable members that just arent seeing your questions in this thread.

in a nutshell, you will download the rom you want to flash. with cm7 you will also need to download a second file to flash, called "gapps". gapps is simply googles proprietary apps that are not legally allowed to be included in the cm7 rom. if you dont flash the gapps right after flashing cm7,you wont have the market, gmail,or a couple others.

so:
-download cm7 and gapps
-place them both on your sd card. do not unzip.
-boot to recovery(power off, power on to hboot, chose recovery. or use an app like "quickboot")

*using recoverys menu options(been awhile since ive used clockwork,so i dont remember them exactly):
-make a backup of your current setup
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache
-wipe dalvik cache
-flash cm7
-flash gapps
-reboot
-collect underpants
-???
-profits! :D

(ok,those last 3 were from southpark,so dont do those ;)) but the rest of it is a basic outline of what youll do. when flashing the zips,no need ot rename them "update.zip" there will be an option to "chose zip from SD card" so you can just find your zips and flash them.

so if you still have some questions, direct us to some new threads,or start up your own new thread and well be happy to continue helping :)

edit: the best advice i think you can get as a new rooter(IMO,at least) is DO NOT use rom manager. it is known to eff things up,and when it does you will have to have the knowledge to fix them manually in clockwork recovery. rom manager is an APP in a WORKING ROM and as such, will not always be available to you to use. it is much safer and reliable to manually manipulate things in clockwork recovery.
