Root [How To] Root 2.3.4/downgrade and Get S-off

I sure hope not, I dont have another computer to do it. It ONLY happens when the drivers are installed, uninstalled it works fine. But it is an old PC.

Got it all done! I just had to uninstall drivers/reinstall drivers/reboot the computer, and it worked fine. Thank you guys who helped me, it took awhile (alot longer than when i did mine before the update!) but i got it and it looks great. I really apprecaite.

i just rooted my inc2 i was wondering if their were any roms like the iphone 4s rom and or a very social interaction friendly rom..

Changing the file name worked! Thanks guys. Halfway to having S-Off The zip is updating in hboot right now.

My phone did a factory reset and I had to do most of th HTC setup again. Is that normal?

Why would you want your phone to be like an iPhone? The Inc is already pretty much the exact size of an iPhone & you want a ROM that makes it look like one too? Why not just buy one?

yup. whenever you run an RUU(.exe or PB31IMG) it will wipe your data, requiring re-setup when youre done.

id recomend not spending too much time setting 2.2 back up,as you really just need it to s-off. after you re root and have s-off,you can flash a rom that wont constantly hound you to update it :D

Yep I see that. Thanks alot guys! I feel back at home now rooted with S-off. Now to setup my ROM & everything else I had before.

sigh...i can't get root. i need root.
why is it that moto's bootloader locked devices are so dam easy yet htc where the manufacturer gives users an unlocked option, acquiring root is so hard (and a chore). i've spent 4 hours trying to root this piece of garbage phone. i'm losing my a** on it...sigh.

where i posted originally, tho i think its the wrong thread.

Did you run htc dev unlock or are you starting from scratch altogether... 2.3.4 with s-on?

Dude, mad props on putting this together and much thanks, I spent days (with wife nagging about neglect) trying to get this fixed and your instructions worked perfectly. This was a godsend, just wanted to let you know there are still others appreciative of this article even now.

Am I screwed? I've got HBOOT 0.92,

Running 2.3.4
Baseband 2.15.10.07.07

Build 4.08.605.2

Tried Unrevoked 3.22 following the instructions in this thread (and other copies of it) and I keep getting hung up. When Unrevoked gets to "rebooting into recovery", get an error from Unrevoked that communication was lost with the phone, try again. I did try again, many times.

Tried rebooting PC (Win7 64) too.

At that point Unrevoked stops doing anything, though shortly after (1-5 seconds) the phone does make it to Clockwork Recovery 5.0.2.0. However, none of the options do anything - clicking any of them just shows the hat background. Clicking again returns to main menu. The only way out of this is to pull the battery.

In HBOOT, I have S-ON still.

Fastboot: Off
USB Debugging: On
No other sync services installed.
Factory Reset'd the phone so no apps either.

Have already successfully rooted and flashed a rom to another phone - Incredible 2, via Revolutionary. Too bad Rev doesn't support Incredible 1 right now.

When you are in recovery, you press the trackball, not the power button to select options

first, thanks for the replies.

I've got Zysploit in the app drawer under downloaded, nothing else apparent. Still S-On, and now that I can manipulate ClockworkMod, I'm still unable to load any of the zips on my SD card. Tried renaming one to the PB31MG.zip - it read the file, unpacked it, and complained that it is older so would not install. So still on 2.3.4, still got some issues.

I've adb installed and set up from my previous root of the Incredible 2. Running it, it detects my Incredible 1 with
adb devices
and
adb shell
returns $.

If I then send
I get permission denied, so that verifies I don't yet have super user.

Is the superuser app in the app drawer? If yes, you can try going into manage applications and clearing the data for it. If superuser isn't in the app drawer, can flash it in recovery. There is no need to rename files to anything specific when using clockwork to install a .zip file from the sd card.

Superuser can be found here:
Superuser

You will continue to be s-on until you follow the rest of the directions in the first post. After you get superuser access, you will then be able to rewrite the misc.img, then downgrade your phone to froyo, then get root access again, and turn s-off, then finally upgrade back to gingerbread . Simple right :D ?

just one little bit to add to that, you may have to try and use a few root only apps before trying to clear data from superuser. most folks report the clear data button being greyed out and inaccessible until theyve tried to run a few root apps.

after clearing data,it has worked for everyone,as far as i know.

if su is not in your app drawer, its no biggie... you can just flash it as sdraw described. the important part of the process, really,is getting the recovery.

question, i am considering using this thread...

[HOW TO] Fix the "Low on space" problem (in plain English) - xda-developers

it's the beginnings of your process of getting to 2.2 and then getting s-off.

i want to run this MOD, (located on a link on the thread)
"Convert2Ext4_no_data_limit_normal_dalvik.zip"

so that i can fix the Low Data Notification.
i see in your thread, post 629,

http://androidforums.com/incredible...2-3-4-downgrade-get-s-off-13.html#post3623666

how to put in some code in mac's terminal program. is that step in the rooting process how you actually get from 2.3.4 gingerbread back to 2.2 froyo?

questions:

1. it looks like the directions on that thread work to simply gain root, is that correct? (but w/ s-on, right? that means that it's not a "permanent" root, correct?)

2. i downloaded a md5 checker, and the "recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-inc.img" seems to verfiy w/ your numbers, but my "Reflash.dmg," the unrevoked 3.22 seems to be different. is that because i got the mac version?

3. does anybody have the mac version's md5 numbers, just in case? i just don't want to mess up this root. (first time rooting)

3.5 how important is it that i double check the md5 numbers?

4. how "important" is it that i get s-off? will i notice a difference or anything like that? it's my first time rooting, period, so maybe i don't need to try this step yet?

If you follow the complete first post you will end up with s-off ( http://androidforums.com/incredible-all-things-root/427344-how-root-2-3-4-downgrade-get-s-off.html )... The md5 for unrevoked is not that important, it's not installing anything that will brick your phone.

I personally believe it is worth the effort to achieve s-off because it gives you more options and overall makes having root easier.
