Root How To Root HTC Evo 4G 2.3.5

First of all I want to thank you guys again for helping me root my phone! So I've given the rom a couple of weeks to settle in and I notice it is still heavily draining my battery life whenever the data or wifi is being used. I was told it just might be my battery itself but I was wondering if you guys could give me some input? Thank you!:D

You always want to give everything a few days to settle in. The battery stats aren't really going to be correct now either so you may want to usr an app like battery calibration to start fresh.

well, that sort of behavior is really not typical. was it eating battery beforehand?

I am curious as to what rom you chose and what you have syncing?

which kernel are you using and are you overclocked at all?

There is something called 'Wakelocks'. I am not sure if I know the proper explanation of them, but essentially, it seems that some apps or processes or whatever are staying on when they should be sleeping.

looking in menu/ settings/ Power or about battery, gives you the ability to see what has been using the battery in graphical form.

If you are not near a wifi signal but have wifi on, that can cause drain. If you are near a signal with wifi on and can't get hooked to it, I have seen that drain too. But if you are ON a wifi network, that should improve your battery life, if it is a good signal

Lots of variables here to think about.

what is your current setup (rom/kernel)?

are you using setcpu? if so what is your settings?

Hi im trying to root my phone but everytime i go to show this pop up %1$s

yes the show buttons are not working at the moment. but we have people on it.

if you can provide me with what is your hboot, i can then post the instructions here if you like. so power off (make sure that fastboot is disabled, settings>apps>uncheck fastboot) then press and hold power+vol down. this will take you to the bootloader screen. the info will be on this screen. i just need the hboot version.

here you go:
Before Rooting

things you will need to do:
  • first thing to do is read the Revolutionary S-OFF & Recovery tool wiki
  • download the htc drivers:HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe and install it onto your computer.
  • *do a factory reset on your phone go into phone settings/ sd storage/factory data reset. you will also loose all of your contacts and other data like text messages. so make sure that you backup accordingly. App List Backup or SMS Backup & Restore are good apps to use. also make sure your phone's contacts are linked to google which backs up your contacts to the cloud. when you sync with google again your contacts will be back. Another good app to use is MyBackup Pro It pretty much backs up everything for you. check it out.(optional)
  • *reformat your sd card by backing up the content of your card to the computer and in your phone go to settings/sd storage/unmount sd card/erase sd card.(optional)
  • make sure your phone has usb debugging on. go to phone settings/applications/development/check usb debugging
  • download this and put this file, Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed on the root(not in any folder) of your card via usb cable.
  • make sure that htc sync is uninstalled and also any anit-virus prgrams you have running on your computer is turned off.
  • also if you have pda net or doubletwist installed on your computer uninstall them.
  • and last but not least make sure that fastboot is unchecked. phone settings/applications/ uncheck fastboot.

*optional but recommended because you want to get the phone as clean as you can before rooting it. it is not necessary.

On to Rooting your EVO!!!!!

1.go here Revolutionaryand download the revoltionary file and extract it somewhere on your desktop.
2.connect your phone to the pc and select charge only.
3.run the executable revolutionary file. it is the only file that is named revolutionary.
4.it will detect your phone's specific serial number. use that to generate the beta key on the revolutionary website.
5.enter the beta key in the revolutionary dos window on your computer. people have been reporting that the key is invalid. if this happens, the icon on the upper left of the DOS command window is a drop-down button that will let you get to the edit option that allows you to copy/paste between DOS and a window. so just copy and paste the key in.
6.it should then run and do its thing.
7.when it finishes it will ask you if you want to download and install clockwork mod recovery, select yes.

next we need to go and verify that you have s-off and if you have recovery
8.select bootloader by using the up and down vol. buttons and using the power button to make a selection.
9.on the hboot screen at the top it should say s-off, if it does then congrats!

next we need to flash the superuser file (superuser su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip)
10.select recovery in bootloader.
11.select install .zip from sdcard.
12.find the superuser file and flash it.

time to make a nandroid backup.
13.still in recovery go back to the main menu
14.select backup and restore.
15.select backup.
16.after it is done you can reboot.

now a lot of people are reporting that revolutionary stops in the middle giving you s-off but with no recovery (you get a red triangle with an exclamation mark). reboot the phone (or pull the battery) and rerun revolutionary. it will ask you if you want to download clockwork mod. select yes and it should work the second time.

CONGRATS YOU ARE NOW ROOTED!!!!!!

This is my second post on android forums, I posted in a different forum last night but it was the wrong one, so I am new here regardless! I have a Sprint Evo 4g phone I would like to root, but I'm not sure how and a friend of mine said there are no current roots available for the original Evo since the Evo 3d and Evo 4g lite came out. My phone info from the Hboot screen is this

Locked (00W)
Supersonic EVT3 Ship s-on
Hboot- 2.18.0001
Microp- 041f
TouchPanel- ATMEL224_16ab
Radio- 2.15.00.12.19

Any info or help would be appreciated! As well as a preferred and recommended root program to be used. Thanks!

Welcome to this forum, and yes you can still root with that hboot version.
Read this guide and we can answer any question you have.!:)
Just read carefully and slowly and it is easy, trust us.!

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you sure can root your phone. just follow the guide that mikey here has linked you to. read it carefully though as there are different methods and they can be tricky. I'm finding out that rooting certain phones these days are getting trickier and trickier to do. right now i'm learning how to root my el tevo and i have to set up unbutu on my computer (mostly as a fail safe). what a pain in the arse.

good luck and please feel free to ask any questions you have.

Hi,
Is there a way to root the EVO 4g without doing a factory reset/flashing new Rom?

unfortunately when you root your phone, the HTCdev method will wipe the phone so all of your data and settings will be wiped clean. and like mikey said you can just once you have unlocked the phone and have a custom recovery, you can just flash the su file and you can stay on stock. but why? mikg3.11 or any other rom is sooooooo much better then stock.

I read on the XDA developers site that there was a file that could unlock the bootloader and install SU without having to do a factory reset. Unfortunately the guy did it on an HTC wildfire but claims that it works on all HTC devices and asked people to try and let him know.

yeah there are a few out there that claims to do this. but, i have not seen any confirmation on if it works on the og evo. so try it out at your own risk.

the methods i have laid out in the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html are proven that it works.

use mybackup pro to backup everything.

worked like a charm!!!!!!

Hi i am new to the forum. I have rooted and installed the mik 3.11. I have 2.3.5, software 4.67. I used the htcdev to unlock bootloader. I still have s-0n and watermark, but the watermark is ok for me. i have recovery and SU, but i can not get the darktremors program to work. I want to move as many programs to the sd card as possible. When i try to reinstal a2sd, it says sd card not mounted. any ideas, should i get s-off .

Welcome to AF!!!
Is your sd card partitioned? If you don't know, then it is not.
I can find the link on how to partition it, but in doing so, you will format the card, so before the partition process, be sure to back up your card.
Then after partitioning, just transfer the files back to the card:)

Moving the apps to the sd card via the phone is not quite the same as the Dark Tremors. Dark tremors will create a link to the ext-3 you create when partitioning that all the app is on the card.

When you move the app to the sd card with the phones "move app to sd card", it only moves part of it.

So, step by step here:) Do you know if your card is partitioned?

yep it is. I would just like to move as many over as i can.

hmmmm i wonder if it is the card, since you can't mount it. i would try and reformat the card, re-partition it and then you should be fine. i believe that mikg3.11 has a2sd already cooked in so you really do not have to do anything. all of the apps should move automatically.
