Yes...clockwork needs to be flashed in rom manager before it will let you flash the alternate recovery.

its ROM Manager, its having issues. You'll have to flash manually, or flash clockwork then at the bottom flash the kill-install-recovery.sh.zip, and flash the clockwork to Amon-ra zip. you dont have to wipe data or anything

This is what I get in my command prompt after using the allyroot batch file from heffe2001's instructions. I put in everything exactly as instructed and it sticks me here with no way to proceed... Please help..

EDIT: I just went through ASTRO and found and installed Superuser, but still don't know where to go from here. Also, I have already downloaded Titanium Backup and BusyBox Installer, and both say that I do NOT have root access...

I wouldn't try this if I didn't have an LG Ally, I'm not dense.lol. I'm actually pretty good with technology. My software version is VS740ZVC.

ok i thought that i had this done but not yet. i flashed clockwork recovery but i can not find the kill-install-recovery.sh.zip,or the clockwork to amon-ra zip. should they be already in clockwork or do i need to download and then flash from sd in recovery like i would a rom.

never mind i got it figured out i now have amon-ra recovery and all is good now to flash a rom and get this thing worth ownig.lol

you need to use z4root from xda here: [APP] z4root - xda-developers

yes you need to download it from the thread i pointed you to earlier, and flash those from recovery.

I tried z4root. I tried Androot. I tried InstantRoot...to no avail. However, I shall try again. At this point I'll try anything, my Ally is running out of space and I want the bloatware gone. (plus, Velocity is looking pretty nice)

EDIT: Okay, for some reason, it wouldn't work yesterday (after like four tries), but now it works today. Oh well. Now I just need to figure out how to back everything up as it is (stock), so I can start flashing roms.

Flash a custom recovery. You can make backups in them of your current stock rom. Pretty much the only way to make a complete backup of your phone.

I go into the "market" on my LG Ally to get z4root to root my phone and it says, "There are no matches in Android Market for the search: z4root" What is going on here?

Thank you. I was able to find z4rood and install. Now I have SuperUser on my phone. Now I've got to figure out where to go from here to rid my phone of these useless pre-installed apps.

Be careful what you delete, read the forums, I think someone put together a list of apps that are safe to remove. Hope no one repeats the mistake I spent all weekend fixing!!

short story. I used universal androot to root. then used TiBU and removed several LG apps and bloatware. then proceded to unroot with universal androot as I was doing all this on both of my older sons Allys. a few days later they complain that they could not get anything from the market. other than that, all was good. found one of the apps I deleted screwed up the gapps file and killed it, which also took out the stock recovery img. off and on ALL weekend, and a 5 hour session of learning ubuntu,ADB commands, finally manually rooted, manually flashed a new recovery, and got rooted and romed. If you run into this, hit me up, been there done that.

Oh, and my deep thanks to those who have posted the various "How-Tos" on here!!!

Thanks for the warning. I had already found the list of safe apps to remove, but I still appreciate your looking out for me. It's always scary to remove apps you haven't installed. I found Titaniam Backup on the market and started to remove the "safe" application through it. If there's a better way, I'm open to know. I've been searching the forum for a better way, but couldn't find one.

Help with rooting my wife's Ally.
I've read 2 different set's of instructions, one here & savoxis version.. (He seems to have co-allated it all very well) & I keep getting stuck at the adb shell part where i type /data/local/asroot2 /system/bin/sh this thing just kindof hangs out after that & never says 'success' stuck at the "opening: /proc/39639393/fd/3"

How long is it supposed to take???
I'm waiting for it right now.. i dont know if I've ever left it longer than 10 minutes, but it shouldnt take that long, should it?
And I'll admit i rooted my original moto droid 1st time in like 15 minutes flat.
Is there no other way to root the Ally? like a rom image or something??
Also, tried the androot direction & it just fails...
Please feel free to PM or email me.
Thanks.
Also, main reason I'm rooting her phone is so I can get the stupid corporate email to work fro her again withouth whiping the phone.. it keeps force closing. I'm hoping as root I can remove email.apk & find a way to reinstall it.. or use a rom with a more robust version..
Also, if it means anything, she has version VS740zvc

Okay, I've been rooted for about two to three weeks now, and I keep running into the same problem when I use an app such as "Font Changer Lite". It keep saying "Write access to the system partition was not established on your device...blah blah blah"

I've found a simi solution for it...Open Terminal Emulator and run command
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

It effectively remounts the system partition as read write...until I reboot, then I have to do it all over again...

Is there a way to permanently mount system partition as read write? I've googled it, looked on xda, checked here...found nothing.

If it helps, I rooted via z4root and I'm running Punisher 0.1 ROM..

I have software version VS740ZVD and I just received an OTA update for 2.2.1 last night.

Could someone point me in the direction of rooting my phone? I've tried z4root and universal androot, as well as the manual CMD instructions that were listed earlier.

EDIT: Ahh, I see it's being worked on right now. Disregard this.

I've been reading this forum and I have a new LG Ally that I want to root.
I have NO idea what you guys are talking about. I'm computer savy but new to the phones. I have downloaded the androot application and have it on the sd card. I have run androot and it goes through several steps then stops with an error message, "Failed!No----Fu goo----" and that's it. Can someone help me and tell me what I need to do. I have the program terminal installed and when I type in what I see on this forum I get access denied. I'm really going to need the step by step method.
Thanks
