How to Unlock (and Root) the Bell Galaxy S2. Step by Step Guide

Well battery performance is not good. Got 18h with a new phone. I use it for web for almost 3h and phone standy for the remaining. I'll test it for the remaining of the week but seems I'm back to square one.
 
Well, got it for now I'm happy.

Using Neat Rom LP9 along with new LD3 modem. Also, went to xda and follow advise to save battery life. And now reception is even better with LD3 than LPS. Battery life is better can do more than a day, have to measure it precisely.

I have samsung galaxy sII locked with bell i tried the procedure but it does not work so is there any one who can help me out with this issue. my device is i9100 ansd android 2.3.3. I have tried a lot with this but i cannot unlock or root the device

I think I'm too big of a ***** to root, is there anyway to just unlock without rooting? I've heard of the Helroz app, but, it's got mixed reviews and doesn't appear to work for everyone. Is that my only hope? I don't really trust going to one of these sites that say they unlock your phone for a fee...sounds super cheesy.
 
After upgrading my s2 via BELL to ICS 4.0.3, does anyone know if XXLPQ is the same except without the bloatware that Bell has? The phone was rooted before the upgrade, but lost it. Everything works great since the Bell upgrade... I just hate the bloatware.

Thanks for the great guide. I followed it and everything is great. However, I have some questions...probably very nood questions...hoping you can help:

- What is kernel and how do I know which one to use?
- If I select a new ROM, do I need to select a new kernel?
- Now that the phone is rooted (using your steps), how do I upgrade to ICS?
- To upgrade to ICS, do I need to pick a new kernel?
- What ROM do you recommend for ICS?

Got my phone rooted and unlocked.

I do have one question maybe even a problem. I was reading about roms and kernels needing to be the same. I dont think mine are the same. my phone info is as follows

PDA: I9100MUGLD3
PHONE: I9100XXLPS
CSC: I9100MBMCLD3

My kernel version is 3.0.15-I9100XXLPQ-CL223505

I dont seem to have any issues with connections or apps or anything like that. But just wanted to make sure everything was correct.

Your wisdom is greatly appreciated!!!
 
Hey, I was wondering if anyone else had tried that rooting method listed above, the one which requires no computer whatsoever? I need to root a friend's phone but I really don't want to try something that could end up bricking it. Any insight is greatly appreciated guys.

Hey Everyone, I have a quick questions for you all. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 with Bell, I want to root this phone, but I'm a little lost on one part of the process. My Phone shows a Kernel Version of: 3.0.15-L19100MUGLD3-CL377577 I am seeing everyone say it has to be on KG2, mine is not, how do I get it to that point so I can complete the root?

Hello and welcome to Android Forums Soulslayer! :)

With that reference you could be on either Gingerbread, Android 2.3.6, or ICS, Android 4.0.4, for the Canadian Bell firmware.

Your best bet for rooting your phone would to follow the step-by-step instructions and videos in the, "Rooting Galaxy S2 - Dummies Guide".
 
I was going to ask a question but I answered it for myself before I finished the post. So instead I'll share my problem and solution in case anyone else runs into this.

I followed the guide to root my Bell GS2 (I'm still running Gingerbread) and it worked like a charm. I was able to install Titanium Backup, App Quarantine, etc. All ran great.

Unfortunately something has since gone wrong and I have lost root access, even after reflashing the kernel provided in the link. The only thing I can think of is that Google updated the Play Store shortly after I rooted. The timing seems about right for my loss of root. I don't understand how Play Store could take out root though, especially after reflashing the kernel.

My solution, which I just stumbled onto, was to uninstall & reinstall Superuser, and that seems to have cleared things up. I don`t fully understand it but it is what it is.

For anyone wishing to root the, "M", variant, I would suggest the Rooting Galaxy S2 - Dummies Guide.

Very nice guide. :) I have a GT-I1900M and I've successfully rooted my phone. Just one problem.

When I got to the Galaxy S Unlock app, I pressed step 1 then step 2. Then I restarted the phone. Then the "please enter code unlock dismiss" screen appears. Is this right? Then when I press the step 3, I says successfully created bak files but non-bell sims still don't work. Please help me. I've pressed restored saved EFS folder to get it to the original state. HELP ME PLS

Thanks for the step by step guide. I was successfully able to root and unlock my phone. But after doing this, i'm getting memory issues "Not enough memory to extract the file" and my SD card total space is unavailable :(. When I tried other blogs, it had mentioned to "Delete dumpstate/logcat", but this option is not available in sysdump :(.

Your help will be really appreciated.

Just follow the step-by-step instructions and videos in posts #1, #2 and #3 of the Rooting Galaxy S2 - Dummies Guide in the sticky at the top of this forum and you will be fine.
 
Ironass you are awesome, my phone is rooted and running neatROM :) One last question, I'm looking for a ROM that will work on my S2 that changes the GUI, i'm bored with the stock look... Any suggestions ?
