How's your battery life after FROYO update?

I read a post somewhere that explained that the segments of the status bar icon were much coarser than the Settings/Phone/Status #s. This would probably result in the disparity you observed.

As I noted in another post, <sarcasm>if you want your battery to last, don't use the phone.</sarcasm>
 
It's been a few weeks since I updated to Froyo.

I had the same problems that many of you have listed, but for some magical reason, my battery life is now much better. Battery died in less than 12 hours.

I waited it out and now my phone easily lasts 24 hours, sometimes up to the low 30's, without a charge.

I don't understand how that works, but it does.
 
I'm at 30 hours unplugged with 22% left. Granted that is relatively light use, as I turn off gmail synch when I'm in my office..I have to say the battery life is better on 2.2 since it appears they did something to really minimize drain when its "sleeping". I lose about 2% when it's untouched for 4 hours or so.

Bottom line is that if any smartphone, especially the Captivate is used heavily, I doubt you can go more than 8-10 hrs without plugging in

people post this stuff and dont realize that their not dealing with their old Nokia candy bar phone that would go a week without a charge.
 
^^^+1. It's just that battery technology hasn't caught up with these devices can actually do. Kinda like battery technology isn't quite what it needs to be in order for solar and wind alternative energy to be practical (on a larger scale, analogy-wise)...just the way it is. In the event of a bad situation like a natural disaster, it would behoove all of us to keep one of those old nokia candy bars around for when the power is out for an extended period
 
I still have mine (which has custom ringtones that I programmed in, btw), but iirc, its gsm, which won't work on todays towers, correct?
 
well id say after doing the update my battery is no different about the same. 6-8hr on a singal charge. but i took the advise from one of the above post, and did the factory reset. yes i lost everything and i mean everything which sucks out the ying yang, but since noon today when i got a full 100% charge ive not had it on the charger once and i have 61% of the battery left. yes 9 hours later on the same charge with 61% life. and yes ive used it like a mad man today reinstalling all my apps,ADW launcher EX, adding music,wallpapers ect... so id say ive actually used it more today than i have in the pass. so for what its worth ill live with loseing everything doing the factory rest to get this kinda battery life.


to quote the post above to pass along the how to factory reset.

Power off phone and remove SIM and microSD (if applicable). Power phone back on. Tap Phone. Dial *2767*3855# "
 
A black wallpaper or a white one makes no difference in your battery usage. I use Tasker and have a profile that turns on my BG Sync once an hour for 5 minutes. Anything that runs constantly, any widget that has animation and anything that continually searches for signal or data is going to pull you battery down. In addition to that, antivirus, ATK and other things that continually run will do the same thing. I rarely use GPS and leave Wifi on all day. Look at what's using your battery, people and stop blaming everything on AT&T and Samsung.
 
well 19hours after my last charge and the factory reset and im at 31% yes i didnt use the phone for the last 8 hours but its still on..lol

Upgraded to 2.2 2 weeks ago and have been experiencing intermittent audio (BT and headphone) music streaming..

normally i have my phone charging overnight. last night before I went to bed, it hit 100% so I unplugged. this morning it had turned itself off because it had no juice left.

I haven't paid attention so I can't say for sure what is the cause. I know neither BT nor GPS was on. I don't think wifi was on either (but can't be 100% sure).
 
mine blows. this morning I woke up for the first time since owning my phone, to find that it had drained itself overnight. Granted it wasnt fully charged when I went to sleep, but most of the time it isnt, so thats irrelevant.

I hate this update, Im going back to 2.1 ASAP, my phone is slower, sucks down battery life, takes FOREVER to find wifi networks (including ones I have remembered, like my HOME network), the keyboard takes forever to pop up when you need to enter something into a field, I HATE that they split up the call log into different options and it always defaults to text messages (WTF).

Samsung screwed up bigtime on this update. There is plenty more I could bitch about, but whats the point.

No offense, but you're dead wrong. Yours is an isolated case...maybe try to do something about it...like a hard reset and see if you can improve it-otherwise I'd hit them up on a warranty case

warranty case? after doing an update? :confused:

Ive had the phone since the first week of its release, I was one of the fortunate few who did NOT have any of the battery problems, in fact I made a whole thread documenting my use and battery life that a handful of people found quite useful. GPS issue was not apparent (at least not to me).

Now... i hate the phone, hard reset... absolutely, right back to 2.1 when the phone actually worked. :mad:

So you don't think it has to do with any apps that are running or anything?

Or look at apps to see what's running, animations, brightness, background sync, etc. It isn't always the phone's fault.

Just sayin'...

Yes..why not? It was an "official" update, put out by ATT & Samsung. Sounds like the way to go..why continue to be aggravated and just complain about the current state of your phone? 2.2 was a good update..you should make an attempt at getting it to work if possible. Otherwise push them to replace your phone

WTF, why does everyone keep saying that? The phone was PERFECT before the update. The hardware is not the problem, nothing has changed on my phone until I did the "official" update :rolleyes: That is the only thing I have changed in months. Remove the update, remove the problem, why the hell would I want to replace my phone?
 
^^^Last post...The reason everyone keeps saying that is because it's the way it is. 2.2 was an improvement..period. Something must have happened during the upgrade on your device that corrupted something. 2.1 is not the answer..Just trying to help here...fix it or replace it is my recommendation

He could have a crappy app that isn't 2.2 compliant. There is no doubt that 2.2 is a massive improvement. As you said, it sounds like an isolated case.
 
for myself the update didn't seem to matter much as far as being better or worse on the battery life., but once i did the factory reset, the battery is easy 75% better than before. i am getting a good 12+hours out of a single charge. and that is with more than normal usage out of the phone. text,emails,games,playing music. im very happy with it now. just my 2cents worth. id say go with the factory reset, give it a try. yes you'll have to reinstall all apps but im glad i did it.
 
I've found battery depletion to be fairly acceptable..where its pretty brutal is using the web browser on wifi. I find I use about 20% or so..or more..in about 30 minutes of web surfing. Fortunately I seldom browse the internet with my phone...unless it's a last resort
