Root HTC EVO 4G 2.3.3 root

ok first we need to know what is your hboot? so power off (you might have to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot) next press and hold power+vol down. this will take you to the hboot screen. at the top it will tell you what your hboot is.

if your hboot is 2.10 or less then use this guide:

He already has s-off, so isn't he already rooted?
 
Might have been one of the rare cases where a rooted phone accepted the Gingerbread update but didn't turn the security back on. I think I remember reading of a few cases where this happened back when GB first went OTA.

Or he rooted it with unrevoked, I thought I read that if you rooted with unrevoked your hboot would be different than if you rooted with revolutionary.

Read the guide that Mike posted. That is the best option to get your phone rooted. Read the guide several times, download all the files listed. If you have any questions, or get confused just let us know where you're stuck, we'll get you going. :D

@ Mike, I advised in a PM to get a thread started to recieve help. I could have helped from PM, but the community at large is a better way to get things done. :)

Hi guys, new to rooting..Came across this site via google, googlin if I can root my evo on gingerbread. I've been asking aroudn on other forums and cant seem to get an answer so I saw how quick people reply on here so I'm hoping I can get an answer. Here is my info :

Android Version : 2.3.3
Baseband Version : 2.15.00.0808
Kernel : 2.6.35.10-g13578ee htc-kernel@and18-2#1
Build: 4.54.651.1.CL134969

I have tried and tried to root my phone with no avail. I am unable to generate a token using command prompt. I used to be able to root my evo with no problem but then it was having problems and basically my data wasn't working and wouldn't work until I updated my software. This is what shows up when I get to the hboot screen (with the down button and then power button at the same time)
