HTC EVO Handbrake Settings with Video

I tried fr4nk1yn's settings, just downloaded them, didn't download the preset, and the movie ended up being almost 6 hours long with no sound minus some weird tinny noises in the middle of the movie. The video looks great, but the added 4 hours of nothing is weird.
 
There's some weirdness going on. The last movie I encoded with that preset didn't work on the Evo but the others did no problem.
Try the iphone/iTouch preset, change the picture resolution to "optimal for source"and you'll be set.

The issue is fairly technical, but it does refer to a specific setting in the Advanced tab. You can avoid this issue if you use the iPod/iPhone preset as a starting point.

i had a video that was a little over 2gb and it wouldnt work. i read android doesnt like files over 2gb, so i split the file into 2, and it works fine.
 
That's an odd resolution. Are you cropping out the black bars?
If you do it will stretch the video vertically on playback.
Try keeping the bars although that will probably cause some weirdplayback itself. No clue where the height would come out.

Video doesn't have any letterboxing.
 
I have a general question about handbrake for those who know. If the source DVD has both widescreen and standard versions, how can I get handbrake to rip the widescreen version.

For example when I try to rip my copy of The Hangover (great movie) the output is in standard. Any way to change that?

hmm not sure but ... try looking in the title selection there may be 2 different "movie" length selections you probably need to find which is which by previewing / playing it on computers dvd player and seeing what title is playing on which format

I tried that straight from a dvd and it won't even play on my comp is it suppose to work on any dvd?
I mean it plays on my comp but its really bad..it just says "can't play File" on my phone.

What type of DVD's are you using that you get that much resolution? Mine won't let me go any bigger than 720 wide. If I keep the aspect ratio it makes it 720x304
 
no matter what format I have used, I can't get videos to play on the evo. Is there a specific process for putting them onto the phone after ripping them? Can't I just drop it onto the phone?
 
If anyone has a video file that plays well on the EVO, could you please email it to me so I can have one movie to watch on my phone? I'll IM my email addy if anyone feels like helping me out! I need a new computer before I can do any video editing/ripping from Blu-Rays or DVDs that I already own.

One more question, I've bought a few Blu rays that come with "digital copy", which I've never used. Is that format compatible with our phones?
 
@RedsGT: What kinda video setting did you use to get the avatar trailer playing so well? I got a 1080p movie (wall-e) and converted using OPs instructions and didn't quite get the quality like yours... Mine has thicker black bars than yours... You still use 480 x 800? Any suggestions?

Warning: This is overkill if you are just playing the video on the phone.

1. Select "iPod Legacy"
2. Change Picture-->Width = 1280
3. Change Picture-->Anamorphic = Loose
4. Change Video-->Avg Bitrate (kbps) = 6000
5. Change Audio-->Mixdown = Stereo
6. Change Audio-->Samplerate = 44.1

(Optional)
7. Save as "EVO 4G 4EVAR!!!!!!111"

General thoughts:
1. Max bitrate for EVo is 6000 kbps, so knocking it down to 5500 might make it smoother because at "average" bitrate set to 6000, it might spike above 6000 and make the video stutter a little.

What about height?
 
Ok I'm overthis movie thing already I've tried 10 different times with like 4 different movies using handbrake and no of them will play . Tried using the factory video player and the paid version of act1..*
 
I'm still having the same issue when trying to resize an HD MP4 video to a smaller resolution: the video is fine, but the audio is super slow and movie ends up being an extra 3 hours long.

I've tried different settings in the audio, as well as all the suggested settings in this thread, but no change. Any ideas?
