You have been connected to Olga.
Olga: Hi David, thank you for contacting HTC Support. How may I help you today?
David: I understand that my device is locked to orange but there is no orange firmware
David: if i give you the firmware details will you be able to find out if i will get the 2.3 via HTC servers or do i have to wait for orange?
Olga: Could you please provide the serial number and i can double check this for you if you like.
David: HT**********
Olga: as i can see the Desire HD is branded and locked by Orange, you will have to wait until Orange issue the 2.3 update to their customers.
David: it doesnt have firmware on it
David: the software on it is 1.32.405.6
David: Android version 2.2
Olga: Unless you have provided the wrong serial number, it is branded by Orange as i can see on my system.
Olga: It does not matter if you have 2.1 or 2.2 or 2.2.1 the handset is still branded by the network.
David: no i have provided you with the correct serial but there is no orange software on my phone
Olga: In some cases the network providers do not put their own software on the phone but the phone is still branded by them.
David: so how can i get 2.3 on my phone without waiting for the crap Orange company to send it?
Olga: you cant, you have to wait until Orange provide it to their customers.
David: what if i flash the phone and install standard ruu?
Olga: You may do so if you wish but this will void your warranty with us.
David: how can i have a warranty with you if the phone is branded via orange?
Olga: we manufacture the phones, Orange are the providers that provide the network service.
David: and if the ruu is default android 2.3.3 from google?
David: yes but you said my phone is branded so if i have problems with my phone i dont contact htc i contact orange and they send a replacement
Olga: No thats not correct.
Olga: If you have issues with the phone you contact us and you may contact Orange if you like.
David: i think you find it is
Olga: only our repair centre is able to change the ROM's of the phone but only if it is required and the phone is having problems.
David: the 1st htc desire hd i had orange firmware on it but the phone was faulty
David: then orange sent a replacement and it didnt have the oange firmware on it
Olga: That does not mean that WE couldnt have helped you repair the phone.
David: your not understanding me
David: they
Olga: I apologise if i do have some misunderstanding in this situation Da, please specify.
David: I had my 1st HTC Desire HD sent to me in december
David: it was full of orange apps firmware and game demos
David: is was faulty and started to play up so i called orange
David: they sent a replacement out to me
David: next day and i turned that phone on and it didnt have orange firmware or game demos
David: as i believe this is the standard rom from HTC themselves i should have recieved the update same time as unbranded as there is no firmware on my phone
David: do you understand now?
Olga: yes but you still had warranty with us.
David: ummm no i sent it back to orange
Olga: I understand you sent it to orange but as they are providing your network service they are obliged to help you in situations like this.
Olga: BUt if you came to us and said you had a problem with your phone, we would have arranged a repair and if the fault was not your own we would have it repaired ander warranty.
David: your not understanding me at all olga maybe i better phone and make myself clear yes?
Olga: I am afriad you are not understaning me Da, you have warranty with us as soon as you buy the phone, wether its on Orange/ o2/ 3 or any other network - branded or unbranded.
Olga: We made the phones and provide a warranty for every single handset, then it is dispatched to companies such as Orange to be handed out to their customers.
David: if i send you my phone now in the post then i would like it to have 2.3 installed is this possible?
Olga: No.
David: im speaking to orange as are we speak olga and they say as there is no orange firmware on my phone i should receive the update via HTC
Olga: I can see it is still branded, unless you think my system is wrong.
Olga: as stated earlier you do not HAVE to see the orange software to have Orange branding.
David: no your not understanding me
David: i feel like banging my head against a wall, would that help?
Olga: I am understanding you Da, i think you may require to speak to a seniour Orange customer adviser in regards to this.
David: i am speaking to a senior at orange
Olga: All i can see is orange branding on my system when i checked your serial number, It seems Orange have may have been misinformed about the device.
David: Hey David, If the device has not been modified and does not have Orange firmware then the Gingerbread update should be provided over the air by HTC ^Laura
Olga: If it wasnt then that statement would be completely true.
David: im fed up of being told its htc it orange its htc its orange you get my drift?
Olga: The answer is that your device is branded by orange, we do not issue the update for branded devices. The only thing i can advise is to wait for the update, if you wish you can provide your IMEI number to Orange and they should also be able to check if the device is branded by them or not.
Olga: I understand you have been going back and forth from Orange and us, but i can only go by what my system states, i have no reason to lie to you or misinform you in any way.
David: but orange are saying i'll get it via HTC OTA
Olga: I understand because they assume you do not have a branded device, if you get them to check your serial number of IMEI number on their system they will be able to confirm further, right now all they are confirming is what you have told them.
David: stay here im calling them as we speak
Olga: No worries.
David: on phone
The agent is sending you to
http://no problem..
Olga: no problem.
David: their talking to a tech expert
David: i'll let you know what they say
Olga: No problem.
David: spoken to Lesley at orange and they say its a generic device
David: its not registered as branded
Olga: Ok, if they checked the serial number and confirm thats the case then the update will come from us.
David: ok so when will i get this update then
Olga: We have started rolling it out last week, so please be patient while it reaches you, we do not have a specific time frame for every single device but we are currently rolling it out to over 30,000 devices each day.
David: then update your system with my IMEI number and serial as its not Carrier branded its Generic
Olga: I can not update my system as that what it reads off the serial number.
Olga: can you please provide the IMEI number and i will also double check this.
David: 3**************
Olga: Thats exactly the one i have here on my system.
Olga: Is there anything else I can help you with at this time?
David: just wanna make sure its registered as generic with yourselves so i get the update when other generic users have it rolled out
Olga: If it is generic, then our system does not come into it as its a completely different system that issues the update to the one where i check your IMEI and serial number.
David: so what does that mean?
Olga: It means that if it really is generic then you shouldnt have any issues getting the update within the next couple of weeks.
David: whens the latest i'll receive the update?
Olga: We do not have a time frame for the update, all we know is that it is released and the non branded devices will get the update first.
David: ok
Olga: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
David: no that is all
Olga: No worries.
Olga: Thank you for contacting us and I hope you have a great day.
David: you too
Olga: Thank you David, take care.
Long winded i know but there you have it apparently.
