HTC Gingerbread update.

Here's the latest from HTC UK

"We know that you’ve been seeing a number of posts about the Gingerbread update (Android 2.3.3) for HTC Incredible S and HTC Desire HD. Just to let you know that we’re in the final stages of testing here in the UK, just to ensure that the update runs smoothly and will confirm a date for rollout as soon as we can. We really appreciate your patience and support on this."
 
LOL.. I hope they fix the wifi issue... found out it is because they set the RSSI minimum setting to -88...

lol, maybe? They could've bought their handsets in a different country, does that make a difference?

Maybe there are different settings for UK users, GSM band or something? Seems weird that everyone else gets it before us though.

Looks like I can stop checking now then!
 
Hi All,

Will I end up getting an update on a Telus branded DHD which has been unlocked is now using a Rogers SIM or do I need to borrow my friend's Telus SIM in order to get the update? Same question if I leave airplane mode on and only use wi-fi to check for update.

Got the 2.3.3 update here in Hungary this afternoon (Build - 2.36.405.8)

It didn't take very long (fifteen minutes on a 3G connection) and DID NOT remove any of my apps or data (nor did it change any of my settings) however I don't use myfacepagebookspacethingies so I can't comment on their security during the update/installation process.

I have high hopes for a little better battery life (of course) and look forward to noticing the other touted improvements as time goes on - which means I haven't as yet noticed any of them......
 
There you HTC UK answered my question and said.. " All our software updates must pass through a testing stage with our operator partners to ensure the best possible experience across all networks. Apologies for this slight delay but we'll update you as soon as possible with the UK roll-out date. "

My first thoughts were 'But i'm not branded' but i guess they can't release an update if it isn't going to be compatible with the all UK phone operators can they.
 
Ok, I have been running this update for a couple days now and have noticed significant increases in battery performance.

I used to have to switch data off for the battery to last a full day at work. After noticing such good battery life yesterday I decided to try going through a day without turning off the data connection.

The results are... from leaving the house at 8:15am: About two hours of using my bluetooth headphones to listen to music, intermittent internet usage throughout the day, receiving a lot of messages and replying via the Facebook app (as its my birthday today so more usage than normal), and I have only now switched to WIFI at home 7pm.

My phone is now at 50%!!! Normally at this time of the day with data switched off all day and hardly any usage I would have a lower battery than this!

I know it's not scientific, but I am a happy man! I can actually start using this phone as a phone, mp3 player, internet surfing, and (if I could ever get a gps signal) satellite navigating device!!! :D
 
I bought an unlocked international version from amazon usa.. on what basis will i receive the update? does it matter which sim card i use? (i switch between indian n usa sim cards)
 
Read what denialnw10 has wrote has made me even more excited I can't wait to receive this now. Come on HTC!
 
Apparently the roll outs have stopped, countries that where receiving have stopped according to people on XDA.

Do you the think the lot who did get it today where Beta testers?

Was there a problem the update and it had to be pulled back?

Have the servers overloaded?


Ha ha ha I do like winding up the situation up a bit
 
I have updated and I can't use the internet with WiFi I can go to the router set up via my browser but no internet, any ideas?
 
Yup it looks like the updated might have been pulled due to the wifi issue. I mean they should have checked XDA to see that there were problems with wifi and should have changed the settings for it, but HTC didn't check and still rolled it out... tut tut... but thank god it is an easy fix... 2 seconds job really.. LOL

I expect we're all still have to wait another 6 months or so now and the the guys that did get to update will be stuck with a buggy phone lol until then also. Same ole story, different update

LOL.. it is a change in the framework.jar file. They already fixed it over at XDA, just like a setting change from -88 to a higher num like -110 or something.

But yea you have to root your phone to do this.
 
I updated yesterday to android 2.3.3 and sense 2.1, the software number is 2.36.405.8 - In Denmark, unbranded.

No problem with the wifi or anything, also seems to have fixed the bugs with 2.2.1 - nice.
