HTC Incredible VS. Droid X

a) you can't flippin BUY any

b) no dock, only one official car dock (that breaks in 2 weeks if mine was any indication), long wait for extended battery, terrible availability for accessories in general.

the DI is an incredible piece of kit, but it burns me up to see manufacturers and verizon lining up to make DX accessories due, mostly, to the tremendous sales of the original moto droid. which was ugly as SIN, had a terrible keyboard, a terrible camera, and was so seriously flawed that even when it was brand new i didn't seriously consider getting it for more than a few minutes. but cash rules everything around me...

my phone is 2 months old. that is TOO YOUNG TO BE A GOSHDARN ORPHAN! between samsung, HTC and verizon, i have plenty of anger to go around. i am LIVID at how this thing was foisted off on the android faithful and is being quickly abandoned.

sorry for yelling, i needed to vent about this.

You already have a inc so point a is kind of irrelevant isn't it?

I agree with you about the accessories though, they should have had more options available by now. At least the seidio dock and oem HTC dock should be available soon.

As far as the inc being an "orphan" or outdated already...you're going to have a rough time over the next few years or so if you're sensitive to something "newer and better" being released every other month. There will be new phones coming out at break neck speeds as we get closer to LTE and beyond. Got to learn to like what you have and stop being jealous or looking over your shoulder every time something new is on the way.

i don't care if something newer or better comes out. i'm not under any illusions that any smartphone will be king of the hill for more than 2-3 months, tops.

i care whether or not i can accessorize what i already have. i mean, i had an omnia for 2 years that, even though it was far from the newest and best thing out there, was pretty well supported in terms of OEM and aftermarket stuff.

and no, A) is not irrelevant. nobody will make docks, cases, TV out cords, etc for a phone that NOBODY OWNS.

Yes, but perhaps the Flash apk will work, that is posted on XDA and mentioned in a thread here? It only needs 2.1.

Unlike what other people have said, you will NOT have full Flash 10.1, since that needs api resources in Froyo (as Adobe has stated), but it should have the same function as Flash Lite 4, which is more than adequate until full Flash arrives.

Be warned though, that most of the people in the links and comments do not understand that Flash Lite 4, ALSO shows as Flash 10.1. The function is pure Flash Lite 4, but a lot of folks seem to enjoy sugar pills- they feel great after taking them! ;)

then no need to get upset about it, right?

and the accessories for the incredible are slowly but surely coming out. don't know why it took so long, but we are where we are.

hundreds of thousands of incredibles have already been sold, more are on the way, and more will be purchased. i also expect that vzw will be running a bogo in the next few months which will likely continue growing the incredible owner base. that hardly qualifies as nobody owning one wouldn't you say.

cases have already been made and more are planned to be released soon or are in development. docks have already been advertised by htc and seidio and will start shipping in july. tv out cords start shipping in july. all of these accessories are already in the pipeline and a few weeks away. don't know how that can be interpreted as no one making accessories for the phone.

if you want a different android phone or a different smart phone altogether (iphone or blackberry) then you have options. but don't fool yourself into thinking that nothing is being done now or in the future for the incredible and that's the reason why you have to switch now. i'm sure long after i've moved on to my next android phone the incredible will still be supported and accessories will still be made for it.

Dude, the Incredible is an amazing phone. The SenseUI has it all over MotoBlur (unless the "new" MotoBlur2 manages to suck less as promised). Any "skinning" of Android phones is a bad idea. HTC got it right. Early reviews by PC Magazine even said the Motoblur made the DX seem slow. Could be beta firmware or some glitch, but that "faster" processor is being loaded down by the Moto skin (so far anyway). The Incredible is still immensely popular with a full month backorder (mine is due in on July 8). As a matter of fact, I would put the Incredible on the list of iPhone competitors because it is a nice size. The Droid X is going to be too large for most users. The Incredible is smaller and lighter which should offer enough appeal that I don't see Verizon orphaning this phone any time soon. Inc vs Droid X is SO apples to oranges! Now accessories? Ok, maybe you have a legitimate complaint. I haven't gotten that far yet :)

Dude, I didnt say anything about the Droid, I was asking about the overlay of the Droid X... And read the post a couple before yours, its not called Ninjablur or shadowblur. Read the forum before you post...

I wasn't specifically targeting you. Countless people have tried to compare the Droid to the Incredible and then say "yeah well, the Droid was awesome so X has to be doubly awesome". Don't get your panties all in a wad.

As for the no MotoBlur or any type... I will believe it when I see it. The entire time there was info leaking about the phone there has been some kind of Blur info leaking with it. NinjaBlur, ShadowBlur, etc etc etc. Even on the front page post that is up today on the forums they say that there will be widgets and some overlay improvements.... just like MotoBlur. =O

I have and continue to read the forums but ONE article can't undo what tons of others have done. When the phone is full released and we get in a handful of real reviews then we will know.

When they compare thickness why aren't they including the big camera bulge. Not trying to nit pick, but to say it's thinner than an incredible is misleading when you'll have a half inch strip raised up a quarter inch in you pocket.

That is a bit misleading, isn't it. I mean, to do it right, the spec should show *2* thicknesses so you know what's what.

I ordered my Inc almost two weeks ago and its still on backorder so thats given me time to think about whether to exchange for a Moto X. From reading multiple reviews this is what I've gathered: (Reviews from Cnet, PC Mag, Laptop Mag)
-The Inc is faster and snappier, the X lags behind in app switching and unlocking the screen.
-The X's screen is bigger and a higher resolution but a lower number of ppi
-The X records HD video
-The X has better battery life.
-Many reviewers say that sence is more refined than Blur

Supposedly it isnt running blur there are a few articles floating around stating this

It could be the launcher, it could be that these were review units, it could be according to Motorola or Verizon the software wasnt final, it could be that Sense is just that good...most of these questions will be answered once ppl actually gets one in their hands.

I see comments that for the X u will need 2 hands to use it....Majority of the time I use 2 hands to use my phone, and I got the Droid. I hold it in the left and use my right for texting, dialing, playing some games. Games in landscape need 2 hands to play anyway.....lol Browsing the web with one hand? Not alot of pinch zoom going on huh...

About Blur:

Droid X launch bits pt2: Motoblur (as we knew it), is dead. Beginning of the end for custom UIs? Unwired View
Another interesting takeway from Droid X launch, was the total absence of Motorola Blur custom user interface from the event. When asked about it, Sanjay Jha, Motorola CEO, confirmed that MotoBlur is running on Droid X, but it has been hidden from the user.
Hidden from the user?! WTF?!

If you remember the launch of the first Motorola Android phone – Motorola CLIQ – last September, the MotoBlur interface was the key to Motorola Android smartphone strategy, the thing that “differentiates the Android experience,… and delivers a solution that’s instinctive, social and smart”. 10 months later, it’s hidden away somewhere in the bowels of Android 2.1, and even Motorola doesn’t seem to care much about Blur anymore.
Motorola must be the first to see the writing on the wall, and let Google take over the overall user experience. Motoblur is now just another Android app, that comes pre-installed on the handset. It does what it does pretty well, some Droid X users may love it. And, if they keep investing and developing it, Blur service can be a good point of differentiation for Motorola. But, by relegating the Blur to an Android app status, Motorola can move much faster both with OS, and Blur app upgrades.
So this time its supposed to be apps. Even tho I have no idea what I'm even looking at...lol, looking at a system dump from the Backfilp and the X, the framework folder looks different with different files. The Backflip has one Blur file in it, a blur-res jar file. The X has 6, with one called blur-res.apk, no blur-res jar. The other blur files are home, friendfeed, messaging, services and utilities. So it might actually be true.

Its an interesting article, with the next Google update, Gingerbread, looking to replace all these custom UI's with their own UI. But if the Blur apps are any indication, u can believe HTC, Samsung and others will try to have their own special apps installed like these Blur apps.

As long as it doesnt slow down updates, performance, I say fine.

Add sense and make the back flat and I would cancel my dinc order and get the X. I would love a 4.3 screen. =)

I was thinking the same thing about the back...but then it gives some room for an extended battery...which is supposed to add only 1 mm thickness...so should even out the back a tad bit.

Overall, I am really lost because I love my Incredible ie size, look, performance...but I have had poor call quality and the pink tint screen which I do not like...so considering those, Moto X will outweigh because of 3 mics and nice crisp screen. But, I don't know how much bigger it is....we have not seen a single video that shows the Incredible and X side by side and being a girl, I am a bit leary. :confused

From what I have read and heard, the omap TI processor is faster than the qualcomm 1ghz...and there is not moto or ninja blur anymore... :)

I'm not sure this one will prove true either.

So far, every video I have seen clearly shows the interface and response time of the browser and screen rotations are slower than the Inc. Must be something to do with the how Moto have implemented their interface options on X, since the 3630 is about 20-25% faster (overall) than the snapdragon.

One thing to remember is that the larger screen size does have something to do with the graphic processing speed, as well as the UI, etc. It is very possible until the next gen of processors (i.e. dual core, or 2GHz) that the incredible will remain the fastest of the android phones, due to its smaller screen size. I know it is still faster then the EVO and Droid X.

The Nexus One is still pretty cool. I think the original Droid (though ugly) is still a good phone. The G1 came out in Oct '08 and it's cool. Did you know it can run Debian? (as well as a near-full version of 2.1)

My contract is up right after the Droid X comes out. Right now I have a Blackberry that I have been using for 2 years. I have been drooling over the Incredible since it came out. That is what I had my heart set on but now that the X will be coming out I am not sure what to get. Does anyone have any advice for me? I am coming from a Blackberry to a Droid so I have absolutely no idea which phone to get now, the Inc. or the X?

Read that that may have been caused by that live wallpaper that's on it. People tested the same wallpaper on the DInc and some other phone, and it caused the same thing with the interface.
Not sure if it's really the cause of the lag in the videos, but seems viable.
