they have been saying they are working on a way to crack the bootloader but its been 3 months and little progress. now how in the mess can p3 get leak version of android and not the bootloader keys.

why the heck hasn't someone dissected a spf file.

What? lol...

Why would P3 have any access to the keys to the bootloader? Nobody at Moto is going to let those leak...

As for dissecting an SBF file...why would you assume they have not?...why would you think that the bootloader keys would be there?...
 
it doesnt bother me as much because i have never done anything with a kernel before, when i had my eris i flashed the froyo version, and then they came on saying that if you flashed the leaked version of froyo then you were unable to load custom roms, well i then got a droid x :p so i have never flashed kernels before, so when i get a new phone, i will find out the process of that. besides, this phone is still one of the best droids out there, even locked up it can do alot of features that the others can as well. just limited to what you can do. but its still a great phone.
 
Coolguy, you need to find out how key pairs work. With respect, getting frustrated about something you don't understand isn't useful. The devs are working hard, they don't deserve your condescension - as if this is so easy and should have been done long ago.

Basically, a key pair has two parts (often referred to as private and public keys). One part (private key) is used to sign or encrypt something, and the second part (public key) is used to verify or decrypt it. This allows the private key to remain secret while still allowing decryption or verification of a file. ONLY the public key can decrypt things the private key encrypts, and it can't be used in reverse. So the SBF doesn't have the private key, only the public key.

As soon as you figure out how to decrypt things in a timely manner, make sure to let the NSA know about it. They'll pay you a lot of money.
 
That's just the thing, though. Saying you knew it would take a long time implies an expectation that an encrypted media will be cracked. That's not a good expectation.

Link to more info on the Defy? AFAIK, they were using the same thing as the X, which is reinitializing after the first boot, which left the radio in an unworkable state and will require all the drivers rewritten from scratch. They already did this on the X.
 
because not all drivers have been written, they still dont have the radios working, i believe they got bluetooth and wifi, but still no radio, im sorry that you want CM on the DX but as it looks right now it wont happen. its not the end of the world, you may need to take a break from all of this, cause believe me there is more to life than your phone

im not trying to be rude by any means, but go outside, play ball, go throw a football with friends, go drive, play with your dog, mow the lawn, you need to get out, cause the phone is not everything, just take some time off from it. eventually you wont care about CM anymore. my contract is up in march, and im jumping to a new phone or jumping ship, but i wont be upset over a rom that isnt coming to my phone. Hence why i doubt im going to theme anything for GB because i want to be outside during the summer, winter is different.

just go enjoy life, no need to be upset over a phone, trust me!

I understand your frustration. I have a busy life but I also love to mess with my phone. I'm thankful to those who are working hard to try to unlock this phone and my frustration is directed at Motorola doing this crap in the first place. I'm sure if you think about it, that is probably what you meant to say right? :p

Ooooohhh, VoidedSaint, you are such a heretic!
(hate to admit it, but he's right, there is a lot more out there)
 
Certainly there is more than just cell phones to occupy our time... but I'm not sure that CoolGuy is insinuating he's giving up on life.

While there is plenty of other stuff to do out there, like ride your motorcycle... go four wheeling... have sex with a beautiful woman... mow some grass (... really VS? Mow some grass? That's supposed to keep his mind off of this? Lol)... yeah sure that's all... ahem, well 3 out of 4 of those things are all enjoyable activities, but certainly it doesn't change the fact that some of us are indeed disappointed that our DX's will never have CM to flash to it.

And while I'm sure CoolGuy mows his share of grass, when it comes time to mess around with your device, one can become frusterated with the limitations Mororola/Verizon have placed on the DX. And when that happens, then this is where you come to let out those frusterations. So I for one am here for you man, I feel your pain! Trust me I wish more than anything they find a way to crack the bootloader so that they can set this baby up on CM7 (or 8 or 9 or whatever they're on by then) and see what she can REALLY do!

Yeah I've been out there enjoying the weather on my motorcycle, but I still crave a device with unlimited access to do whatever my heart desires with it. Unfortunately this means moving away from Motorola. If the DX still keeps you happy, I'm certainly not here to insinuate you need to ditch it. For anyone who doesn't mind the limits that a locked bootloader brings, go crazy with the DX. It's a wicked phone forsure. For anyone who wants to take customizing a step further, you'll probably be happier with something other than a Motorola (post OG Droid that is).

I owned an OG Droid for all of 3 days. Not nearly long enough to explore all of the things people did with that little guy. But I can only imagine anyone who cut their Android teeth with that device, the entire dev community that exploded around that ground breaking phone... I can only imagine how frusterating it must be for anyone who got to know and love all the possibilities that thing was capable of, to then pick up a D2 or DX and realize that Moto locked us out like they did.

It seems there may be a tiny glimmer of light on the horizon though... recent activity surrounding Motorola seems to indicate (if there's any truth to it at all) that they MAY be starting to soften their stance on the locked bootloader situation.

I can only hope there there were enough people like me who decided to abandon ship and support a friendlier Android OEM, that it's forcing Motorola to sit up and take notice that their policy is going to end up costing them money in lost revenue if they stay the course. That they lost customers like me who would have stayed a Motorola customer in a heartbeat if they were as open as some of the other OEMs are.

That would make me feel good about my commitment to boycotting them if it turns out to be the case. I'm not to the point yet that I wouldn't consider returning to team 'M' if they reversed engines and unlocked future/existing machinery. I'd jump all over an unlocked 'Targa' if those rumors hold any truth to them.

But for now, I've moved on to a device with more opportunity to do the things I want to be able to do with a device. CoolGuy, I would suggest you do the same if you want to run CM as bad as I do!
 
Can't we all just get along?....lol.

I don't see the need for an unlocked bootloader at this time. While it would be cool, there is just so much playing around with the dx you can do now to keep yourself occupied.

P:S Steven, I'm here ya on the no life. I don't have one either. My wife won't allow it. She says I don't need one and that's all I need to know right now.

yes mow grass, what else can we old guys do? sex with beautiful women? umm, none exist around here, and my ex-wife is a hateful, miserable person, who likes to cheat, and make people go broke so yeah no such luck with women around here. so mowing the grass is a stress reliever for most people, me included. just helps you get away, something about something sharp cuttin the heads off of grass so they stay below your feet and never get above your ankles is just so relaxing :p

i was sad at first, not now though. i have my problems, that medication helps with but other than that im a happy go lucky person, you would never know anything is wrong with me. i put on that nice front that you cant see past :p

besides its life lessons we learn, and that was just another lesson i learned the hard way
 
Cutting grass can be a means to an end as well. I cut grass so that I can get sex. The whole time I cut, I curse my girl for sending me out to push that whole damn lawn! :D A riding mower...I'd be out cutting every day. Neighbor women would wonder why the hell this guy is out cutting nothing and the husbands would completely understand.
