Root i need help asap!

Heh, sorry, didn't realize it was the same OP. No wonder I'm confused...

This should probably be merged so nobody else gets confused :)

No nandroid?

If it was simply a setcpu issue all that needs be done is

Battery pull
Power on while holding down volume
Choose recovery from hboot menu
Wipe dalvik and cache
Flash nandroid or myns

Boot to verify fix worked

Boot back into recovery and wipe dalvik and cache then flash kernel.

When changing setcpu values make sure start at boot is unchecked :)

Ok, so you're saying it did or didn't work? At this point, you have S-OFF, can get to hboot, but still can't boot up and still can't get to recovery. Is that correct? Is it still rebooting, or is it just hanging? I'm starting to think this is an issue with either partitions or SPL, but I don't know how they could have gotten changed by doing the things I've seen people before ending up in this situation.

Before you flash that, can you tell us what you were doing before you got the bootloop? It might be easier to fix that flashing something quite so drastic (not that it's a bad idea; it would likely fix it). Were you running a custom ROM/kernel? Do you have any nandroid backups?

+1 If you read the other thread, I requested the mods to merge the 2.

One other question (assuming you still have this problem, and we're sticking to this one thread), what was your hboot version before? Has it always been 2.02? What is your baseband radio version? You can see in hboot. Did you ever have the eng hboot .76? If you don't know what that means, I'll assume not.

sorry for the delay..this thing was pissing me off so much i had to take a break..but yes i can get to hboot but not recovery and i still do have s-off..and when i reboot the phone it just stays on the white htc evo screen now

so my phone is stuck on the white evo start up screen and ive been reading thru the forums that maybe running an RUU through the pc might work..can someone please help me and give me step by steps on how to do this..i just want my evo to work again lol

Can you boot to recovery?

Is it possible to put PCIMG.zip on the root of your sd card and the phone will recognize that recovery and then automatically update?

This is one of those issues that nobody seems to have an answer for. Those who have encountered it are able to flash PC36IMG.zip files, but nothing seems to actually work after that still. Booting up normally results in a reboot at the splash screen. Booting into recovery does the same thing. That being said, it sounds like that's where you *were*. Now, you're saying it's just hanging. That's potentially a good thing. I suspect this issue is related to SPL. When you boot the phone up, it goes to the splash screen, and the SPL part of the bootup process should determine what to load from there. If that gets messed up, it'll get confused and reboot. The thing is, those who've had this happen were doing rather mundane tasks when it happened. I could understand this happening if there is a major incompatibility between hboot and radio versions, or radios being flashed incorrectly, but a bootloop due to incorrect setcpu usage is just weird.

So, now that it's at least just hanging rather than rebooting, let's see if you can flash recovery now. I'm guessing it won't work, but try it anyway. I think you already did this, but go ahead and flash any recovery from here as long as it's CW 2.6.0.1 or up or RA 2.1.1 or up. I forget if you said you had a specific one before. For now, just try to flash something. Once it is done, try to boot into recovery, and see if it works yet.

One other quick thing - It doesn't look like you ever answered this - did your phone come with hboot 2.02? You *might* have some success with a particular method of downgrading to the eng bootloader, but it's not advised if you have a phone that came with hboot 2.02 or up.

If none of the above works, then maybe try a RUU.
