I5700 Galaxy Spica/lite officially gets Android 2.1

I have installed NPS 1.5 and it works like a dream. It finds my spica every time but I still get the "Can not connect to server" and the occasional "Not necessery to update this device". I just cant understand why it is that some in Norway gets the update while others, like me, just cant get it.....

The 'not necessary' response relates to NPS rather than your phone I believe. If you're getting any sort of response from attempting to update your phone, then NPS is connecting to the firmware server, and thus should allow you to update.

It worked for me too, first try...

I am in Norway.

I did it via a "slow" mini-pc with wireless network.

I downloaded New PC Studio (Click on Download NPS-button) via this link:

Support - Phone Firmware Update - Samsung Mobile
(I used XP, but I guess it works in Win7 if it is run in Admin-mode? Right click on the exe, and chose run as admin, or maybe compatibility-mode?)

Switched off phone, removed sim and storage-card.
The phone was fully charged.

I was sure that Mass storage was set to off in the settings on the phone. If not, the PC will not find the phone, and there is only an USB-error.

Then I was able to find the phone in NPS when switching on the phone and connecting it.

There was a message popping up that there were an upgrade available.
I clicked it, clicked on Update unit-tab, found the phone and clicked next, etc.

Upgrade was a breeze, took only 15+ mins. or so.

The info on the phone after upgrade was:

Firmvare Version: 2.1-Update 1

Baseband version:
i570EXXJC1

Kernel version: 2.6.29
root@se-611#2

Build number
ECLAIR.XXJCF

It is fast and snappy, but haven't tested any big programs, yet.

I tried this as well and all I am faced with is this message

'Cannot connect to server; Update cannot proceed'

Now seeing that shows that it is there just not for those of us in the UK....

Hi, been lurking for a little while, therefor the 0 posts.
Anyway, im from norway, ive tryed updating with both NPS 1.3 on an XP machine and NPS 1.5 on Wind0ws 7 and i get the same message, that my device is already running the latest version...which it is not, lol. I dont know what samsung are doing...but im starting to get really sick and tired of their lame service, this is in all seriousness unacceptable to a normal consumer.

my 2 cents

is the nps 1.5 the one that's been relesed this week has any body got a link of where I can download it from

Hei xxTJxx... I have tried to do just what you have done, its not working for me either. I get the cant connect to server and no update needed, even though I am running cupcake 1.5... starting to loose faith in samsung.

When i bought my phone the guy at the store said that they didnt have HTC because their service was no good, now i wish i had not listened to him and bought the HTC Desire instead.

One thing is for sure, im never buying another Samsung device, cus the service they currently got on this phone is amateur like and not acceptable. And i know im not the only one who feels like this, so good job to samsung for loosing a couple of hundred customers because of lame service :)

hmm.. interesting reading this thread after a fews days hiatus. So now we have atleast a couple of people in Norway officially upgraded & someone in Germany already confirmed.

And the feedback of 2.1 on i5700 is good. I will take this as good news and hope the upgrade will be available here in Singapore soon :)

For all those who are taking desperate measures to get onto 2.1, I would suggest just wait n watch for a some more time & meanwhile enjoy the great Android you have on your hand. Believe me I am as eager as anybody else to upgrade but I currently I am playing around with 1.5. By the time I get bored with it I'll likely have an upgrade waiting for me :)

Cheers !!!

Hey guys need some help.... bought my spica at Dubai airport..... big let down no market app preloaded, if I new this wouldn't buy it there.... I live in Europe and if I flash to any of the european firmwares here i should have market app on my spica wright???? PDA on the phone is I5700JPIL3 . Can I even flash with this firmware? Thanks

just found this on another forum i hope its not trune ........apparently they have withdrawn it due to their poor NPS support and the slightly shaky and unreliable upgrade to 2.

Hello. My first post here.

Anyways, I just wanted to give another...sort of...confirmation from Norway.
Just uninstalled NPS 1.4 and installed the new NPS 1.5 and it works great in Windows 7 64-bit. Detects my phone every time, and it also shows there is an upgrade available.
First time I tried to upgrade my phone, the download went fine but after the phone reboots to perform the actual update, I get an error that I have to put the phone into recovery mode, and when I do, nothing really happens, so will let you know how it goes, but the point is that NPS lists an upgrade, and it's the same as listed above. So I guess this means that 2.1 SHOULD be available in Norway now :)

EDIT : IT WORKED :D Apparently the first time the phone rebooted it installed some drivers and I guess NPS just didn't get contact or something, I dunno, but once I ran the entire upgrade procedure the second time, it all went smoothly, and my phone is now running Android 2.1 :D

I'll attach a screenshot.
