ICS Stock ROM... it works!

For those of you on the stock LP7/LP8/LPD ROM's, there are some nice mod's that you can flash to it that can be found as mod's for the NEAT ROM. See here.

I've flashed the 15 toggle notification bar with Quick Panel settings, the Green Circle battery mod, the ICS lockscreen and the CRT effect mod.

The NEAT ROM is, to all intents and purposes, identical to the stock LPD ROM, as I explain, here.

Just make sure that you flash the mod's designated for your firmware, LP7/LP8/LPD.

Hello!

So, coming from Checkrom revo v6 and Siyah 2.6.14 What steps should I follow to have ICS in my S2?

Any detailed help will be very, very welcome :-)

Thanks!

I have a similar question. I'm still on checkrom, if I flash a stock ics rom do I need to do this via Odin first? if so how will I get kies to recognise my phone again? has anyone or can muons provide instructions for going from GB to ics stock?

yeah ok, so flashing the stock ROM first should allow kies to recognise my phone again to flash the cf root kernel via Odin?

I don't remember saying that!

All that flashing the stock ROM first will do is to lay down a stock ICS base coming from Gingerbread to ICS and thence to a custom ROM. This will help prevent the problems I experienced in post #1, coming from GB CheckROM v6 straight to a custom ICS ROM.

It, "may", help you with connection problems with Kies but I wouldn't guarantee it. It certainly won't hurt.

Bottom line... you won't know unless you try. ;)

sorry my response was what I deducted from your original post in context to my previous post.

what I'm unclear on is do I flash the stock rom through recovery and then do the Odin bit to re root? my reference to keis not recognising the phone is because I understood it didn't recognise rooted devices? However if the stock rom is flashed via recovery then kies should recognise the phone as it is now stock again.

Anyway, I can't find a link to the stock rom download to get started?

Download stock ICS ROM of your choice, here.

Flash stock ICS ROM via Odin after doing a Full Wipe and erasing your Internal SD card storage.

Re-root using the "Dummies Guide, here.

After re-booting you can then flash the custom ROM, kernel, modem of your choice.

Let's see if I have it clear too:

I am downloading a stock firmware for my country (Argentina). Then I will update through Odin What checkboxes should I check in Odin to do this?

Regarding to full wipe, I will use nuke script but I am not sure how to erase my internal SD card. Please, help me with this too.
After this I will move to a custom ics ROM.

Things I don't see clear:

a) I can install any Stock ROM. This is just to be able to go to a custom rom later. It doesn't matter if the stock rom is for Argentina or not.

b) If I install a stock unbranded ROM, I will be able to update through Kies. Otherwise (custom ROM) I wont.

Thanks my friends. There are two months since I upgraded to Checkrom and it seems I forgot everything. Age, too much work? I don't know but I feel like starting again.

I have only been on ICS for a month and I have forgotten the Internal SD card wipe pathway. You could connect your phone via USB and wipe the internal SD card via Windows Explorer or use a File Manager like Astro to erase files. Alternatively you could Google that question.

You may like, as I did, the stock ROM. So you may as well flash the latest unbranded ICS ROM for Argentina, ( I9100UHLPI_I9100AROLP3), here.

No, you will not be able to update via Kies in future if...

1. Your ROM is not the original firmware or an update of that original firmware that came with the phone. See post #1, here.

2. You are rooted.

3. You have a custom ROM

XWLPF stock ROM is really good. Build date, 18th May.

Having just come from a brief excursion on the LPS stock ROM I can certainly notice the difference in terms of speed, fluidity and battery.

Stock XWLPF can be downloaded here.

The NEAT LPF ROM, deodexed, which is virtually stock, can be got, here.

Coupled with JKay DeLuxe Settings and framework, takes the LPF stock ROM to a whole new level.

Im going to try this. I want something a bit more stable. AndyX while flashy is just causing me problem after problem.

Sorry to ask, to upgrade to LPF, with the mentioned extras, can I just flash through CWM or do I have to go through Odin yet again?

Also, when I got passed onto site for downloading said file, it gives me a deodexed and Odexed link - 1) which do I need and 2) what is the difference?

After a good week or so on this Stock with Siyah 3.2.4, after all my initial tribulations, I have to say I'm loving it and the battery for me is amazing and I havent tweaked anything!!

Cheers.

I flashed my stock, LPF, ROM via Odin after a Full Wipe and because at that time I could only get it from SamMobile. NEAT LPF ROM is a CWM .zip, deodexed.

Stock ROM's are odexed whilst custom ROM's, "usually", tend to be deodexed. It should say in the custom ROM description.

What Is Odex And Deodex In Android [Complete Guide]

If you're going to go down this stock ROM prior to custom ROM route, then flash the stock firmware version corresponding to the firmware version of your custom ROM.

So would it make much difference which one I flashed?

If you mean a, "stock", ROM to use as a base then it would have to be a pure stock, odexed, ROM from, say, SamMobile's list.

I don't think that the NEAT ROM can really be classed as stock as it has been, deodexed and customised but would make a good ROM to move onto after you have flashed stock.

As Hawker says, it might pay you to flash a stock of the same ICS firmware that you wish to use as a custom ROM.

Sorry, I should've said, I'm already on Stock (LPD i think (flashed from this thread/as per my previous replies&problems!))

So, if I just flashed LPF as an "upgrade", I would need odexed??

But, if flashing Neat, deodexed version from the download site?

Sorry, I still don't quite fully get difference and I can't put into words what I wanna ask/say!

Now that you've flashed a stock ICS ROM... you can flash anything you like... odexed or deodexed. Does that answer your unasked question? :dontknow:

Yeah thanks. I flash either & it won't make difference. When I went to download other day it gave option, confused hell out of me & I looked into too much prob but hey.

Has anyone experienced strange battery behaviour?? Mine has been brilliant but yesterday took off charge at 8ish and by 5 was dead - with literally no use. Took forever to charge last night.

This morning its been off charge 20mins and already down to 86%!! This & one text is all I've done this morning.

Just to clear a few things up:

ALL STOCK Samsung ROM's are ODEXED
99.99% of CUSTOM ROM's are DEODEXED.

Being odexed/deodexed is not the point being put across here. What this thread is about is the fact that flashing a STOCK ICS ROM through Odin seems to be of benefit if you are having troubles with your CUSTOM ICS ROM. I cannot be certain about this, but there is a consensus that certain files/folders are created/initialized during the flashing of the stock ROM in Odin that perhaps are not addressed when flashing a CUSTOM ROM, thus giving your CUSTOM ROM a more stable base to flash onto.

I've never had trouble from any of my custom ROM flashes when I came directly from GB, but I've heard of quite a few people that have, and flashing a STOCK ROM does seem to have its benefits in such cases.
