Root Idiots Guide To Rooting Kindle Fire HD 7" 7.2.3

ok update....
i deleted everything and uninstalled the KFHD drivers and started again from scratch
ho the joy when my device showed up in the CMD :D

so i am now sitting here with a rooted KFHD with google play installed and i have that droid wall and have blocked the OTA updates (fingers crossed)
can you confirm that droid wall will block the updates????

also 1 thing before i go have fun
the main reason i rooted was to remove the blot-ware, is there a list of things that can be removed or is it just a trial and error thing

I do not know if DroidWall actually stops updates, but we can hope for the best.

Not sure what can safely be removed. I have ordered a factory cable and will wait for that to arrive before I start deleting bloatware, in case I brick it!
 
Hey I have rooted my kindle successfully after some work ^^, and some troubleshooting, but figured it out.

I am now on this step:
Continue from here if files already in /sdcard/Downloads (Win 7)
31)Tap "Download" folder. This should reveal the 3 files you copied here earlier from your PC
32) Tap "GoogleServicesFramework.apk" This should install it from here, with a confirmation message.

And When I try to install I get install failed, any ideas on what to do?
 
Okay So i decided to uninstall all the google apps / delete all google files I have and restart. I am rooted and When I followed the guide exactly to the dot. When I try to install googleframeworks install always says install failed. Any ideas on what to do?

I already have my Kindle Fire HD 7" rooted, but now I have a problem with the MTP because it has the yellow warning triangle. :(
The problem is that I can see the Kindle as a removeable drive, but I can't see the Kindle's folders to add files from my computer to the Kindle; and I don't know what to do. I read the comment that was post on January 2nd talking about this, but to be honest I don't understand a word. :'(

Try using ES File Explorer to copy the GoogleServicesFramework.apk directly to the /system/app/ folder and see if it will install from there.

The problem with WindowsXP and the Kindle is you cannot see it as a removeable drive, rooted or not.
There are a number of ways of viewing your files, such as setting up ES File Explorer with a LAN share.
Another way is to download AirDroid from the Market, run it, then on your PC (connected to the same LAN) open the IP given Example:192.168.1.24:8888 and enter the password provided on your kindle, and away you go.
If you click on Files (on PC) you will see the contents of your SD card (on Kindle) allowing you to upload/download files as required.

Sounds like it is still only half way through the process. Run the rooting method again, and let it take its time after the first stage.

Great post and thanks for all the additional help you've been providing.

I'm running 7.2.3 on Windows XP and am having the same problem as Kindleking and awesomexful. Running slow/sluggish seems to be normal after the first reboot, but I've tried letting it sit for a long time, rerunning RunMe, rebooting the device, reinstalling the adb drivers, factory reset, and nothing helped.

When I tried running RootQemu.bat (which should be for non-7.2.3 only) and followed its procedure, I got the confirmation from the command window that it was rooted. The device did function normally (no lags), but it wasn't rooted.

Is there anything else I could try? Thanks!

What can I say but amazing work.

It all worked outstandingly well.

Maybe a tip, I tried and tried to connect to the server to add my Google account to the Market app.. In the end, I just restarted my Kindle and it worked first time.

Thanks ever so much for the hard work you put in and to all the people who contributed.
 
Inksaver, many thanks for your detailed description of the procedure. When I followed it correctly (which I didn't the first couple of times) it worked a treat.

I am shortly going to try your Guide to Installing Apps on Incompatible Devices and imagine it will work just as easily.

A question if I may as a fellow UK user of the Fire HD:

If I manage to find a way of updating to Jelly Bean I assume that this will wipe all user data as I found with my Motorola Xoom. This is not necessarily a problem but I would miss the actual Kindle application as it has more and useful features than the standard download for other devices.
Do you have any thoughts or guidance on this.

@Inksaver, I tried to log in to my google account for about 15 minutes with no success, I turned off wifi, turned wifi on, then restarted kindle, went back to logging in and success in 2 seconds. thank you for the easy rooting guide.
 
Ok even though this guide stated that if you are on version 7.2.3, you don't need to run rootqemu. Bat method, that was not true in my case. After running through the runme phase in cmnd prompt, choosing normal root, and letting the process finish and reboot, my device was ridiculously slow, and not rooted might I add. Here's the trick though, immediately after that process finishes, you need to run the Rootqemu method also. But when you try to run Rootqemu.bat by right clicking and running as administrator, it doesn't recognize the device. What I had to do was left click on ONLY the folder that contained the Rootqemu files, and while only that folder is highlighted, you hold down the shift key and right click on the folder. Then you are going to click on "run command prompt here". Once the command prompt opens, you are going to type Rootqemu.bat and press enter. Then you can press 1 to root, let the program run through its few stages, and after it reboots several times and finishes it's process, voila no more lag, and you should be finally rooted. Also after that process, download a program called Kindlefree. It's an absolutely amazing, and simple way to install all the essential Google apps "aka" Gapps to your rooted Kindle fire hd. I hope this helps everyone like it did me!
 
Just Rooted my HD 7"!! Worked perfect first time go! Don't have WiFi access right now so I'll have to wait to do the Google Play install (no ES Explorer yet) Thank you very much....nothing else was working!
 
cant establish a reliable data connection to the server? i followed these instructions whats wrong? i have kindle fire hd 7.2.3 ver.
Copy the Google Services Framework, Vending, and the Google Play Store APK files to your tablet’s internal SD card.
On your tablet, launch ES File Explorer.
Head on to Settings > Root settings > Root explorer. Enable the “Root explorer” option and confirm the action when prompted.
Tap the Allow button on the pop-up screen to grant root access to ES File Explorer.
Enable “Up to Root” and “Mount File System”. After enabling both, close the Settings option and return to the main screen of ES File Explorer.
Navigate to where you copied the files mentioned in step 1.
Tap on the GoogleServicesFramework.apk file to install it on your tablet.
Once installation is complete, long press on the Vending.apk file and select Copy.
Press the Up button located on the top of the screen until you see folders named acct and cache.
Look for the /settings/app folder. Open the folder and paste the Vending.apk file in it.
After copying, long press on the Vending.apk file. Click on Properties then click Change. Make the following changes to the file permissions:
User: Read, Write
Group: Read
Other: Read
Tap on the Vending.apk file file once again to start installing it. You will have the Android Market app after the installation.
Exit the ES File Explorer and launch the Android Market found on the apps menu.
Set up Android Market by providing your Google account details.
 
Everything worked fine until I typed "stuff\adb devices" into the administrator cmd. It did the whole daemon thing but under "List of devices attached" there was nothing.

I believe that I correctly created the adb_usb.ini file in the .android folder.

I have read through the replies and can't seem to find one that helps, let me know if you have any ideas
 
I won a Kindle Fire HD in a competition and I think I want to root it. I would love to change the launcher and use some of the apps in the Play Store. I am fairly confident when using the computer and I have already rooted and flashed my HTC Wildfire. Though I am not going to flash my kindle, I am worried about the OTA updates.

So I have a couple of questions:

I know people are saying use Droid Wall to stop the OTA updates. Since we haven't had a new update, how can we be sure it works? If it doesn't, what would happen to my Kindle? I do not want to brick it.

Also, say a new update comes out and I do want to update, will the procedure of just clicking update be alright? I know it would cancel out the root, which I would imagine I would be fine with (since I would want to update). Or is there any uprooting steps I would have to do before I click update?

Super guidelines. Worked like a dream on my KFHD 7. Kindle Play is up and running. But a problem. I've installed Kindle Play Movies apparently successfully, but it won't run. Opening it results in a 'pink' screen for a second, but nothing else. The app then shuts down. I can't find any reference to this problem - has anyone else experienced it?

Sorry, stupid. I meant GOOGLE Play and GOOGLE Play Movies.
 
Thank you sooo much for putting these instructions on. These are the best on the web, the xd forum is hard to do. Just wondering, i cannot download apps in google play store? Im successfully rooted & everything, have intetnet access but it gives me an error. I did try sending the app from my laptop in googleplay as it shows kindle kftt as a device but no joy. Any ideas would be very much appreciated. Yhanks again
